I'm shocked it's only one per year. Given Apple's update cycle you figure they would allow 2 per year...

It is 10 for the premier dev membership, 1 for the select dev membership. You are also only allowed to use macs bought with the discount for developing and testing Apple platform software and hardware, which would also mean you can't resell unless it is to another Apple developer.

And the discount IS up to 20% in the ADC Purchase Program. Look for yourself, the 17" MacBook Pro is $2000 instead of $2500, a difference of 20%:

Does anyone know when the advertisement was supposed to go out? Did Apple send out a Black Friday email for last year, and when did that email go out? Maybe the part about Apple notifying current customers about the upcoming Black Friday sale is true. Then we just have to wait for the email then we can stop wondering :)

I just got an official advertisement email from Apple yesterday, didn't say anything about a Black Friday sale. Unless they just weren't planning on telling anyone and make it a secret sale.

The artwork for Apple's Black Friday event last year wasn't that great either, I'm not sure what the art complainers are talking about :)

It is a transparent png, you have to display it against a non-white background to see the '1' graphic collage and text. Inline:

In Google and Yahoo Search, http://store.apple.com/us/browse/campaigns/black_friday keeps coming up, but the cache is from last year's Black Friday sale (the page doesn't currently exist if you try and go directly to it, it is a cache of an almost year-old page).

^^^^^ The artwork on last year's ad is clearly Apple. This fake one..... not so much.

I'm not sure how a '1' collaged out of silhouettes of Apple products and wrapped in a ribbon is 'clearly Apple'.

I'm also not sure how a peaking curtain is 'not so much', especially with Apple's biggest store opening doing exactly that, having a peaking curtain.

The Macbook Pros are the oldest so far, so probably have the highest profit-to-revenue margin. It is probable they might offer slightly better than 10% off for the Macbook Pro. Propelling Macbook Pro sales on Black Friday may create a wave that will carry them into the beginning of next year. With the next anticipated update of Macbook Pro in Q1 2010, Apple may try and make the most of it until then.

^^^^^^ What peaking curtain? That's quite a stretch. It's a ribbon.

Have you read this thread at all, or did you just jump in near the end?

Read posts #4 and #29, and that will give you a better idea of why the ad that is the topic of this thread is most likely fake.

The ad that you posted- the one with a '1' collaged out of silhouettes of Apple products and wrapped in a ribbon, is elegant and finished.

The ad we're discussing looks sloppy and unfinished.

Huh ... I guess it is a ribbon. I could have sworn the so called 'fake ad' had the peaking curtain similar to the recent Apple ads for new store openings. Must have just been my imagination wanting it to look more like a real ad :)

I have been following the thread, but I haven't read through the entirety of its 4 pages. I guess I should go back and look over any posts I missed, including your referenced ones. Thanks.

With the Macbook Pro lineup being the oldest since the last revision and most likely having the best profit-to-revenue margin for Apple, I do feel that to be the best place to look for savings in the Black Friday sale. In Apple's latest email ad they are promoting the Macbook pro "Give the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Our most popular Mac."

I can't remember what they did last year but hopefully should announce the sale soon? Would love to pick up a nice new MBP next friday :)

I"m trying to sort out if i would be able to use my 10% discount if i trade in my old iPod on the sale prices. There isn't anything on the terms of the recycle offer that state if can't be used with anything else.

The mere thought of attempting a trip to the Apple Store on Black Friday is UGLY, but if i can do them both (whatever the discount ends up being), and get the money for my birthday, i might attempt it.

Hey everybody,

Im planning on finally replacing my g4 ibook with the i7 imac (worked all of last summer for that and then put off buying the 24" one because of the rumors i read on this site).
Anyways, i was wondering if these black friday discounts will also affect education prices or not?

In other words, would should i buy it today with the education discount, or will i get both the black friday and the education discounts on friday, or should i get the black friday discount?

Thanks

The MacRumors guide doesn't list AppleCare - has it ever been discounted on BF?

I would probably at least wait and see what pops up around the net price wise. I think the Edu prices will be about the same as the BF ones, at least from Apple. But you might have someone offer some enticing offer that makes it worth waiting.

And there shuoldn't be a discount on the Edu prices with the sale.

Apple has NEVER discounted current models anywhere close to 25%.
And its silly to think they will.

I'd be surprised if computers were marked down more than 5%. 10%
would really be nice, but probably won't happen. iPods and accessories
very possibly 10%. But all you're really doing is negating sales tax.
