Agreed... even with the refurbs, most items are 20% or less off the regular price.
Even for official Apple developers the hardware discount varies and peaks at only 20% and only for big-ticket items. So for Apple to have a black friday sale that is actually selling items cheaper than the developer hardware discount seems like too much to swallow. I could believe 20%, not 25% to 30%. Though it would be great if it were true

This is almost equal to the employee discount from
Apple. It's 25% off any computer, but only 1 per year and roughly the same or more for an iPod. The software, however is 50% off for an employee.
It would be feasible to say that they would offer this discount to the public for one day since they do offer it to their employees, but I would think if it was valid that there would be one more * stating one computer per customer. Since it's one computer at 25% off per employee per year!

Last time I checked the developer hardware discount was only 20% for Macs, not 25% - 1 per year for select members, 10 per year for premium members. Either way even if the black friday discount is only 10% I'm buying something on Black Friday from the apple store.

No way is this a piece of Apple graphic design. Those background swirls, that curving ribbon, that exclamation point... uh-uh.

Apple developers are able to get copies of their own apps for free. There is however, no official software discount. The official developer discount is part of the 'ADC Hardware Purchase Program' and is by nature a hardware-only thing. Paying Apple dev members do get some free software, but not an official discount to buy software.
And none of that matters, since the developer store requires you agree that hardware purchases are only to be used for developing and testing (which I would assume also means you can't resell).
The only way Apple would sell at a discount of greater than 10% to the public on Black Friday is if *for that day* the purchasers had to agree to not resell. Which would be a difficult thing for Apple to do. Otherwise it would be a free-for-all between retailers trying to make a buck during the holidays, buying on Black Friday and reselling the discounted Apple products at regular or only slightly reduced price.

Last year it was both Apple Retail Stores as well as the Online Apple Store that had discounts, I don't see why it wouldn't be the same this year.

Even the education discounts are never more than 10% or a couple hundred dollars. 25% seems way high - much higher than necessary. Plus, Apple just dropped the prices on the higher end iMacs.
Finally, the whole purpose of Black Friday sales is to get people into the store. Does anyone here honestly believe Apple is going to have any trouble doing that this year?
If we see discounts, and I'm reasonably certain we will, I would expect them to be between 5 & 10% and restricted to high-end computers, displays, and maybe even the AppleTV...probably not on iPods. Definitely not on iPhones.

I'm shocked it's only one per year. Given Apple's update cycle you figure they would allow 2 per year...
