If this thing is amazing, you'll love it, even if it is called iFeces.
Hell, most of you already own something called Wii...
And it's a stick you hold in your hand and jerk around, to boot.

Exactly! It could be a steaming pile of poo straight from the horse's arse, but if it has an :apple: logo on it it will be an expensive pile and, regardless of the price or the smell, it will be another "need" for our Apple gadget collections

I'm hoping for iPupu Platter, personally. :p ;)

Last I checked, Apple was no longer using "iBook". My guess would be that they simply re-cycle that. All this other hoopla about iSlate, iPad, etc. is just for them to control the naming rights for the product segment to prevent knockoffs playing off the name.
They might not be, but I still am using one....

I still prefer:

Apple Canvas...
Canvas for short.
iCanvas is even better.

:apple:Canvas
iCanvas

Although it really depends on the functionality of the device. If it's more for book/magazine reading, it's not much of a "Canvas" - if it's easy to create content, draw, etc...Canvas works.

I like iPad only if it's in a legal-pad type of form factor. Leather binder sold separately of course.

Hey, next week, when we all find out what it's gonna be called, we'll see which one of you guys is right. Although, iPad or iSlate have the majority - so I don't think any ONE of us can claim it. However, we have seen some great originals. A lot of us really like CANVAS. That was suggested a few days ago but I don't recall by who(m?).

Who ever wins gets a DOLLAR!

Canvas is a Trademark that was originally drawing software from Deneba for the Mac back in the 90's, it is now on version 11 and only PC only.

I seriously doubt they would use that, or that ACDsee would release it....

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Why not call it "padd" after all who won't play at star trek with it an install a LCARS application!!! :D

Maybe the iPad is some kind of wireless charging "pad" to replace the dock of a potential iSlate

I'm beginning to believe that there's actually two different devices here.....

Maybe iSlate is the tablet and iPad is for some sort of multi-touch pad keyboard thing for their desktop line.

Maybe a little far-fetched, but you never know!

I agree, I would 'guess' that iPad sounds like a new input device (buttonless/touch based keyboard) for the desktop.

Long week ahead

I'm almost waiting for the weekend as I know that there will be no more posts about the tablet. This whole speculation became frustrating months ago. Now, it's almost killing some people here.

There is something sad in the fact that while several tablets made a debut this month, none had the hype nor the success that such a device would deserve. Perhaps, some will say that they were from other companies. But honestly... how many upgrades will we see before one can completely satisfied with an almost-brand-new product type?

Will the screen be the best compromise? Will the processor will be able to handle more complex tasks or will the market give the thumbs-up for a large iPhone?

I think, I just stop reading tech news until the end of the month, then I'll just check, whatever is out.

I get it. You buy the device for $300 and then you buy its name (pick 1 of 6!) for an additional $300.

Better yet, it may just be, "pick one of the six devices to suit your needs". ;)
Lol, and then we'll make fun of our friends that bought the ipad device out of the six. :D

iPad does not sound good, however 9 years ago an iPod sounded like some weird toilet. MacPad would also be horrible since it sounds like Maxi Pad. They should just call it Apple Slice.

Funny thing . . I still don't like the name ipod lol.

I hope they name it iPad, it ties in well with iPod and iPhone. Those making jokes about it will stop after a few weeks. Same thing happened when Nintendo unveiled the Wii. Nobody's laughing now.

That's a fair point about the wii... Now THAT really is a bloody stupid name! :)

Why? What could possibly be wrong with calling it iPad?
Funny.

iPod touch becomes iTouch for short.

So maybe these make sense:

- iPod Slate or iSlate for short.

- iPod Tablet or iTablet for short.

iPad brings up other ideas.

Will the new tablet be part of the iPod lineup, or a whole new line up such as the MacBook Tablet?

I can imagine that Apple employees in the know are having quite a chuckle over this. :)

If Apple reserves iPad, I don't think it should necessarily mean the tablet is going to be called iPad. It's quite possible the name was reserved for something else that will come down the line. Maybe it's for a new touchpad as a replacement for the mouse in the coming near future...

Like the previous poster who stated 'I think it's such a pointless thing ... "

I share his views, I think Apple have become too confident of their success with Ipod and Iphones, which do have a real consumer market and really do outclass others products in their fields. This is also true of OSX(Windows 7 is huge improvement tho, so watch this space) however a tablet that has a phone built into it reminds me of the British comedy sketch Trigger happy TV, with guy walking about with giant mobile phone.

ipad, islate, icanvas won't make hell of a difference when ican't sell due to lack of consumer demand. Maybe just maybe thiis may appeal to the business sector, however at price tag of £500 +, i'm thinking ibroke and iwont.
