For those of you having trouble getting Street View open in Google Maps on 2.2.

Please note, the iPod Touch 1 or 2 does NOT support Street View AT ALL! Don't ask, don't complain!!

Here are the instructions:
1) Drop a pin somewhere, or search for a location.
2) Tap the pin to bring up the info, etc.
3) Tap this:

4) Enjoy Street View!!

NB: Only works in areas with Google Street View. If you can't get Street View on your computer, it won't work on iPhone either. Don't whine about this either!

PS: Mods, could you please sticky this thread, so people don't continuously ask? Thanks!

International

I can't believe they haven't gone internationally to all the countries where they sell the iPhone, to take pictures of every single street. I mean... how hard could it be ;) ha ha

Too bad though, would be cool if street view worked in Sweden

+1

I had to read through that massive thread to figure out how to do it. It's a feature that many people probably won't even know they have in a few months if they don't troll around here like we do.

Now all I need is this: someone to explain to me what the hell Street View is good for.

I understand what it does, I just don't get why it useful. Not even Google can explain that to me.

DUDE, THAT'S AWESOME !!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

Thank you so much !!!!

(yes, they definitely need to tell people how to do that. I'm pretty good with computers and electronics and I didn't figure it out until you told me)

we were trying to get this thread as a sticky earlier on, but the mods didn't do it yet. It would defiantly save a lot of questions if it would be here as a sticky for a the first couple of weeks until everyone figures it out.

You are going to meet this guy, and he tells you "I'll be in a black trench coat at the corner of South and Main." You look at Street View and realize it's a really scary looking place. You pan a few streets over and it's a really nice neighborhood. You call him back and tell him to meet you at the nicer place. He says "What, do you have Google Street View or something? The deal's off !" (you just saved yourself from getting mugged) :)

Amazing explanation! very entertaining :)

Thanks, that's great. And the implimentation of street view is really slick and smooth. I wasn't expecting much, given the glacial speed of the google earth app, but this is really well done.

thanks for the help!

i find that street view is much smoother on the iphone (wifi) than on google earth desktop. it also appears much clearer since its on the small screen too.

overall, great!

Why does it seem nowadays that the best features of the iPhone are the ones developed by Google?
