DAMN IT TO HELL!!!

Search for the 5th Avenue Apple Store in NYC. You'll be facing opposite the plaza. Turn around and discover the beauty of that amazing structure--

OH WAIT.

THERE'S A UPS TRUCK IN THE WAY OF THE APPLE STORE.

WHO THE HELL DID THAT!?

Brown can gladly get out of the way of photographers, that's what it can do.

Pretty cool to have Street View but I thought it would rotate itself if you turn the iphone around, like G1 but only touchscreen. What happened?

Lol the fact that people couldn't figure this one out on their own...... ( read the 2.2 thread.. its quite sad)

Well done post though OP.

It's a little laggy and slow on Edge... hopefully it's faster on Wifi or 3G.

I think someone should start a thread about "cool/funny stuff we find in street view" like the UPS truck that was mentioned up there /\

Google HAD to have caught a naked guy or a dog pooping or something somewhere along their photo-taking journeys.

Just download the v2.2. I only played around with the street view.the download was worth it. Thus, still no cut and paste.

Having to drop the pin and only after find out if Street View is available is kind of cumbersome. :( I much prefer their website which highlights what streets have it available - then you just click the Street View button.

I've also noticed that it seems to have less coverage than maps.google.com has. The website has nearly every single street in the town I work in, whereas the iPhone app only has a couple of streets! I don't know why this would be. Maybe it's a flaw in the "drop a pin" method that makes it seem like less streets have it available than actually do.

street view is really slick and smooth. I wasn't expecting much, given the glacial speed of the google earth app, but this is really well done.

I'm not a software programmer, and so I don't know how the "behind the scenes" works, but I've been fascinated by how some seemingly complex programs can operate so smoothly on the iPhone (Youtube video, for example, and the fact that it can buffer and save a whole video in the RAM), yet some other seemingly simply functions can take a while to load. For example, when you click "settings" there's about a two second delay, keboard lag at times, and the lack of RAM when clicking "back" on web pages.
And yet, here's street view working flawlessly, in the [mysterious] way that Youtube streaming works so well. (scratches head)

To the people wondering WHY this is useful.

Location.

I go to parties and when a friend is lost on a street, I could simply go to google view, screenshot, then send an email to a friend where the place is at so they know which building.

Or if i'm unfamiliar with an area I'm traveling and running low on time getting there, I can see what area of the building I'm going to rather than finding the small address number.

And lastly, it's ***** COOL!

I can't believe they haven't gone internationally to all the countries where they sell the iPhone, to take pictures of every single street. I mean... how hard could it be ;) ha ha

Too bad though, would be cool if street view worked in Sweden

They haven't finished mapping the US yet which is clearly their priority...since they started here. They still have only barely covered my area (western Chicago suburbs). With that large of an area to cover...their resoucres get stretched thin...so their resources dedicated internationally are probably pretty light...

For those of you having trouble getting Street View open in Google Maps on 2.2.

Please note, the iPod Touch 1 or 2 does NOT support Street View AT ALL! Don't ask, don't complain!!

Here are the instructions:
1) Drop a pin somewhere, or search for a location.
2) Tap the pin to bring up the info, etc.
3) Tap this:

4) Enjoy Street View!!

NB: Only works in areas with Google Street View. If you can't get Street View on your computer, it won't work on iPhone either. Don't whine about this either!

PS: Mods, could you please sticky this thread, so people don't continuously ask? Thanks!

Thanks, I couldn't figure it out. That wasn't very well designed in my opinion.

Nice. I type in one of my family members' names and it comes up with the address.. I click on it and I can see streetview. Nice :).
