Having to drop the pin and only after find out if Street View is available is kind of cumbersome. :( I much prefer their website which highlights what streets have it available - then you just click the Street View button.

I agree with this.

Pft. A lot of good Streetview does to anyone good EXCEPT to those who are in the USA!

Way to completely ignore Canadian cities. Stupid Google.

Um, you guys realize that they actually have to drive around and take these pictures, right? Do you know how may streets there are in the world?

Yeah,it's only guy, right, and he travels the continental USA only and managed to photograph most places in the USA but conveniently stopped there neglecting Canada, UK, Asia, Mexico, Central America, and Europe and any where else where there is a big city. ;)

You guys do realize that this is an AMERICAN company right? Sure they sell internationally and they are trying and have a pretty, I think, significant international database. But at the end of the day this is "Apple Designed in California" first and foremost.

I didn't get upset when the Wii took nearly a year to hit the US, or that it took almost that long after it came out to grab one as the US was horribly understocked. I understood that Nintendo was a Japanese company, and they should have come first. Learn to live with it--and be patient.

You guys are so lucky!
You're 2.2 actually did something for you.
For us iPod touch users, 2.2 was barely an upgrade at all.

i dont think the beef is that google didn't implement street view but the fact that apple in their infinite wisdom decided to make it mandatory on the iPhone when iPhone users are not just situated in the USA. They forced it on those who will almost never use it because they don't go or live in the USA. Now, if the add on was an app, that's a different story. so now, we have added bloatware on the iPhone. good job jesus.

No not really. If it were strictly an AMERICAN company, it would only sell its production in the UNITED STATES. Since it doesn't we have every right to be pissed at Apple bloating our phones with something that is useless. I can except that Apple is an ethnocentric company, but remember, American buyers are the minority ;). As the poster above pointed out: no one cares if it is a US only feature, but if it is a US only feature why do I have to have it? It's wasting my phone's resources for nothing.

Apple says: "Here check this great update out. It's mandatory, but it only works in the US! Enjoy!"

Predictably not available in the UK, and neither are transit directions.

Yea ... Same BS in Canada. Why don't they try releasing something in another country first once in a while. LOL

Edit: oh ... and I understand that Google decides which areas get street view. Still annoying though.

I'm in the UK and I found StreetView exceptionally useful when I was planning my holiday to the US. New York, Chicago and San Francisco were covered so I would work out all my routes. Just a pity Washington DC isn't included.

I know they've been photographing and preparing for the UK to go live for ages. A friend of mine saw the car round here a couple of months ago. Theres a HUGE amount of work to do for us. Every face blurred for one thing.
I'm looking forwards to being able to see it in the UK.

Just thought I'd tell you that I saw a Google Street View car here in the UK a few weeks ago, so we can probably be expecting a UK release fairly soon.

Forced? Mandatory?

What did someone break into your home and force you to upgrade your iPhone and then use street view to look at US cities?

You didn't HAVE to upgrade to 2.2.

You don't HAVE to use street view (Google Maps works fine without street view for navigation).

I doubt it adds that much to the iPhone App size itself. The map and photo data is all stored on Google servers, not the iPhone.

Exactly. You're acting like Street view is running in the background and makin an obvious difference to the functionality of your phone. I would be glad of the potential of street view, so that when it's released in the UK, you can access it. Ask all those iTouch owners who realized they can't get street view. They WANT it...you HAVE it, yet are still bitching about it.

Yes, it IS mandatory. Maybe not considered mandatory in the literal sense where someone had a gun to your head, but if you want any technical support from your cell provider or Apple, they wont help you unless you have the latest firmare intalled.

I don't like how many moves it takes to get down a street to be honest.

Totally agree with your there. In some areas it seems like a stride, others a lot more. Not helpful either when you want to follow a long road and it takes forever.

Maybe it needs some videos of regular tourist destination routes? That would be interesting. I did see one someone had made of the whole of Broadway in NY.

I havnt read trough the whole thread but those who are complaining about the street veiw for internainal users that's up to google :)

is there a way to more around when in street view?

I pull up street view and can do a 360 view, but cannot move forward or backward. Is this possible? Am I missing something?

NEVER MIND, figured it out - just hit the arrow on the 360 view.

Umm, so? Who said you had to use the feature? THAT was his point.
