I would think they will go back up to normal prices. 8GB = £269 because 02 (AT&T) wont be paying a % of the phone for you!

This is aimed at trying to get more people into contracts... cant blame them to be honest!

O2 contract iPhones will be

£99 for 8GB
£159 for 16GB

Free upgrade to 8GB if your on £45 tariff or above. Also new tariff of £30 with 75 mins and 125 texts - all tariffs have unlimited data.

If your already on an iPhone and want to upgrade then you register on O2 site and then when its ready you pay online and it will be delivered to your for the 11th - I checked this in a local O2 shop.

PAYG prices? it won't be that cheap - I think it will be about £159 for 8GB but could be more or slightly less...

If O2 Ireland's site is any indication, the phones may
reserved from 1st July:

http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/conn.../O2+to+Launch+iPhone+3G+in+Ireland+on+July+11

"iPhone 3G will be available exclusively from O2 Retail,
O2.ie and Carphone Warehouse stores. It will be available
to pre-order from July 1st."

i spoke to 02 about getting an iPhone 3G and they said i would have to go into the shop to get mine.

They dont send them out...

When i had the bolt on on my contract £7.50 gave me 200 MB of data!

I only ever used about 20 in a month!

The unlimited data on the contract is 3GB. They dont stop you if you go over that amount... just send u a text telling you have gone over!

I have a feeling that o2 are working on some new Iphone 3G tarrifs for pay as you go. It might be similar to what '3' offers where you spend like £30 a month and get an amount of mins and texts and probably data to be used within 31 days.
The question is, will you be able to just pop in any other o2 pay as you go or Simplicity sim or are we gonna go through all this business of unlocking again.

i'll probably end up buying a pay as you go one and then just using my current orange 'dolphin' sim card in it! not sure what i'm going to do with the unlocked iphone i've got now, and i won't be buying the iphone when its released, will wait untill august or something.

The Pay & Go wont allow you to just pop in any old pay & go SIM.

There will be special tariffs for them etc. I can see them doing it so you pay £20 a month (for example) but with no contract, so you give a month or 2 notice etc.

curses, £20 pound a month for a top is quite excessive when i only do £10 at the moment and get the free texts that i need and call time that i need. damn you o2. just have to unlock it again.

This may not be the case. But i dont see any other way?

Views???

o2 have done their homework. Whether you go Pay As You Go on a SIMplicity style package or take out the contract you will roughly pay an equivalent amount of money over the course of the 18 months.

8GB Contract:

£35 x 18 + £99 iPhone = £729

8GB PAYG

£15 + £7.50 bolt on x 18 + £269 iPhone = £674

The question is whether you want the bulkier up front cost and flexibility it affords you, or the cheaper entry point that the contract provides.

Also those buying on PAYG most likely won't be getting free OS updates and will have to pay like Touch owners. Or whether you will get Cloud and BT Openzone access.

Depends whether £269 is the PAYG pricepoint for the handset and whether the PAYG deal requires a monthly topup of £15.

still slightly cheaper, also I always top up £10 a month, no more.

Plus, with unlimited data and near wi-fi data speeds with 3G I can tell Apple where to shove the Cloud and BT openzone access!

As for the OS updates, a bit of jailbreaking never hert anyone :D
