This is from O2's website, Does this mean you have to be over 16 to get the pay as you go iphone when it comes out? I hope not!

''Switching to iPhone is easy and we have a wide range of tariff options available to suit all your needs. To purchase an iPhone with a Pay & Go tariff you need to be over 16 or over 18 if you want to purchase online.

To keep your existing number, just contact your current network provider for a PAC code. Then let us know your PAC code when you purchase your iPhone in-store, or contact us online when you have received your iPhone. Your existing number will be transferred within two working days of us receiving the PAC code. We'll give you a temporary number whilst you wait for your number to transfer so you can continue to use your iPhone.''

iphonesarecool, that is stupid. Must be a typo. You NEVER have to be over 16 to buy a pay as you go phone, anyone can go and get one, even a 5 year old if they have enough money! :p

If this turns out to be true I will just get my mum to go on the shop and buy it for me :p

I read it twice and what i think it means is that you have to be 16 to get it in store and 18 or over to get it online.

You under 16?

i would be very happy paying 329 pounds for an unlocked iPhone at 329 pounds and it will almost definitely be hack-unlockable....

No!

o2 PAYG mobiles are notoriously LOCKED to o2, branded to ****.
It used to be the case that o2 Contract phones were always unlocked, but this wasn't the case with the 1st Gen iPhone.

They used to not brand or lock them, however they do now.

Oh yeah, jailbreaking will still work.

I will definately buy the iPhone 3G on Pay as You Go, my old Motorola V3X-V
is getting older and more scratched by the minute! I just hope that it will be atleast £169 for the 8 GB model!

I am hoping for that price, too, although I hear it will cost a lot more than that :(

one thing the UK is probably going to become, if the PAYG price is a good price, is a hotbed for exporting jailbroken unlocked iPhones to other countries, as we're the only ones able to get them without a contract as such!

The official O2 Contracts are here in case anyone wants to see them;

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/paymonthly

(Click on the tariff tab)

If they did a £200 8Gb with £7.50 per month unlimited data plan, I would be in. I don't really use my phone much so calls/texts don't matter to me. Currently I am on BT Total Broadband; £5 for 50 texts and 50 minutes a month, currently free unlimited data plan but with a sucky HTC-S620. Maybe once the 18 month contract on that is up I might be able to buy an iPhone for what I want to pay...

I am on an O2 contract (with a sony ericsson phone), but it doesn't expire for ages.

Wonder if I can buy the PAYG and put my O2 sim in it? Will it allow me to use it as my contract phone? I reckon it should as I'm still on O2, but perhaps it will be locked to a PAYG sim?

Anyone actually beliving in prices under £300 for the PAYG without any contract? Seriously?

I bet it takes proprietary iPhone PAYG SIMs, meaning when I top up i don't get my 300 free texts :(

I hacked my old iPhone on PAYG and still got my 300 texts for topping up, but if the new one took any SIM i would put that in and get a £7.50/month bolt on.

It's GSM (2G/3G), so it has to have a normal SIM.

Also, laws in the UK mean that the phone has to be unlocked on customer request. It's not in a contract and you own the handset, not O2, therefore it is all possible.

You can go elsewhere if you wish.

Hmm, that's interesting. I'm on Vodafone at the moment and with my PAYG, there is no monthly minimum top-up required. From what I can see on the O2 site, there IS a monthly minimum top-up.

I don't know about the UK, but in Denmark we have a law like this. Any phone must be sold with an option to buy it unlucked and unsubcidized.

Also we have a maximum binding period of 6 months for any phone.

still slightly cheaper, also I always top up £10 a month, no more.

Plus, with unlimited data and near wi-fi data speeds with 3G I can tell Apple where to shove the Cloud and BT openzone access!
Yes, but I think the posts earlier in this thread implied that you really won't be getting unlimited data with the £7.50 bolt on. I may be wrong here, but I can easily see myself going way over 260MB/month with 3G browsing, especially if I really go for the whole MobileMe thing.
I was reading elsewhere that the smart thing to do is sign up for one of the contracts (perhaps the £45 to get free 8GB/cheap 16GB) and then you can downgrade (possibly to the £30 one) after 9 months?

yes, i wouldn't be surprised if it's not the usual pay and go deals. i was using pay and go on my iphone and topped up £10 per month to get 50 free mins and then from that paid the £7.50 web bolt on.

really? should i worry because i haven't topped up since i sold my iphone a few weeks back?

i was a pretty heavy user of browsing on my iphone and never exceeded 200MB per month.
