The fact that the movie was able to keep people's attention so well makes it a hit in my book. Maybe it didn't achieve much in the way of artistic expression or plot or meaning, but it really entertained people, and isn't that the point of a film?
I'll enjoy any movie that destroys New York, Cloverfield included. Saw it with my partner this past weekend: a few good laughs, a few scary moments, a somewhat interesting POV from the handicam - generally worth the price of the matinee for sure.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the monster was really good looking - sort of like a puppy crossed with a giant lizard. It had a really cute face and eyes, too. Best looking monster I've seen since Alien.

okay, I need to ask, why do you love any movie that destroys NY?

This movie was pretty incredible I have to say. Just great filming and cool plot line. Definite must see for people that like movies like this. :)

You completely miss the point. If this movie had been filmed in the typical Hollywood, Jerry Bruckheimer fashion, it would have stunk something up fierce. The point of the movie was to show a monster attack from the civilian's perspective, and to do that, the handheld effect was necessary. Comments like these make me wonder if you even knew what you were going to see. ;)
I understand that it was first person but people nowadays know how to use a camera and it was extremely over the top. No one films on an angle...

That was an excellent film. I really enjoyed it a lot, the cinematography and effects were really extraordinary. I didn't think it reminded me of 9/11 nor did i get sick at all. The only vague reference that i noticed to 9/11 other than NY being attacked was one line "do you think it's another attack?" while they were still at the party... Overall it was quite entertaining and well worth the cost of a ticket. As someone said before, seeing it in the theater is what makes the experience, anything else is just subpar.

Lots and lots of bad memories.

Anybody think Abrams is going to gear up for a Cloverfield sequel, especially if Star Trek does OK?

I certainly hope so, though I'm not sure handicam fashion would be plausible... considering what happened.

Cloverfield 2 is apparently already under talks with Paramount, Matt Reeves has signed up already to direct.

Manga 4 part comic has been commissioned as a 'prequel' to explain the monster's origins.......there's a translated version of Part 1 on the web already.

Too early to tell what the premise of the new movie will be, whether from another survivor's POV or something else. Maybe Cloverfield Dad turns up.....since the monster was actually an infant !!
