Stupid question but I'm guessing when you're an airplane pilot you can't just cut another plane off? Like you would think there would be enough room in the sky for the plane to just go around.

They have to follow flight patterns and schedules. Everything is set by air traffic control.

Considering there are about 450,000 phones per flight, $9,000,000 seems like way too much. But maybe in the scheme of things, it's nothing compared to the billions Apple makes off of everything.

There was a Bloomberg article that these flights cost Apple $250K, half of which is fuel. So on a per phone basis it's nothing.

Ordered on the night of release, received on Monday.

As Apple was having issues with my upgrade eligibility, I just ordered from AT&T. Delivered by FedEx.

I went to a Apple store store today and added AppleCare Plus to my phone...

No, you can't cut another plane off, your entire route is dictated by air traffic control. Which is why a flight plan is filled... so planes don't crash into each other; which is one of the main reasons why air travel is safer than driving.

That was for the flights shipping the phones to Apple stores and to carriers. And yeah, it works out to about 50 cents per phone. The UPS flights are regular freight service, and I have no doubt that Apple gets a serious discount for palletizing and presorting the phones at the factory.

I don't care quite enough to figure out what plane my phone is on, but it IS on one and will be delivered to my office tomorrow. Can't wait!!

And I can't join mychoice as I haven't got any mortgage or utility bills in my name.

What is up with that, anyway?

The sign-up procedure for mychoice is seriously, seriously creepy. It presented several towns and asked which one I'd lived in before, ditto for several streets (the correct answer going back 25 years when I was on the title of my parents' home with them!), and ditto for a list of several names into which they'd mixed my son's name.

Really seriously NSA-class creepy. Why, UPS? I just want to know where my package is!

lol if your tracking says it departed Anchorage, AK it's on UPS99.

Or something like that. There's not much to it

They use an API offered by credit agencies like Experian. But I agree it was creepy

LOL. When I signed up a couple years ago it asked me similar questions to verify my identify. It really is creepy.

The multiple choice answers from my home street name, parents birthday month, etc was really weird.

It's creepy for our protection. MyChoice let's you reroute deliveries and authorize other people to sign for it, so they have to make sure of our identities.

Worst part is though, I'm 18, a legal adult, I can spend money at UPS, but there's no way for me to get this account. Kind of a pain if you ask me...

anyways...

Anyone know, if my phone says EOD, how can I tell (approximately) what time it will be delivered as I cannot join mychoice?

Also, anyone know, the delivery scans show up pretty much immediately right? One person said yes, but I want to be sure.

I'm looking at the scheduled departures from Louisville on Wednesday morning and trying to determine which flight my San Francisco-bound 5s will be on. No flights scheduled for Ontario, the closest I could guess is Phoenix or Texas and then grabbing a connection to SFO. ETA is end of day Thursday.

The regional hub for UPS is Oakland (OAK). Three flights tomorrow, two in the early morning. Your phone will probably be on one of those.

Mine says EOD even on MyChoice, probably due to location and number of routes etc.... So don't worry, MyChoice wouldn't help you.

Looks like it just crossed the US border from Canada.
:D

Yup. Although I don't see any flights on Flight Aware yet for this evening from KY to the NYC-area... I'm really curious how they are going to have it on the truck by tomorrow morning.

placed order at 12:05am

bought expedited shipping but called in and asked to get refunded the expedite fee. CSR refunded and left the initial shipping date!

yet it has not shipped yet...

Didn't have to waste time calling csr here and had regular shipping.. delivers tomorrow.. :D

Freight flights will not show up until shortly before they depart. You can look at the last 24 hours of arrivals at the airport you're interested in to see what usually flies in, that should give you an idea.

I really hope my phone shows up late in the day. I'm only going to be home at 7 pm, and I don't want to risk someone snatching my $800 phone :(

See our post office closes at five and I have lab at 3:30, so I hope it gets here before 3:30 so I can pick it up and not have to miss part of lab/miss the phone for the day!

They won't leave the package without your signature (and maybe even ID).

Of course, that might be either good news or bad news from your perspective...

Look for next UPS update around midnight. UPS is efficient in transporting and figuring out delivery times so you can be 99% assured your iphone will be delivered on the date quoted.
