If they knew how many calls the iPhone 4 dropped they wouldn't be interested in getting one.

That's not the iPhone dropping the calls. That's AT&T crappy service doing that. I left them years ago having multiple drops, even being within 100 feet of there towers, and went to sprint. Allot better. I would have bought an iPhone over the evo in a heart beat if offered on sprint. Evo is ok but knowing the critical security flaws with android, my next phone will be either blackberry or iPhone if it's available.

This.

So now I love my Droid X, and I'll be getting my wife one as well.

Timing is everything, so is the network.

That's the thing. I have been waiting on Verizon with my feature phone because I would like an iPhone and money is an issue. Now that I have the mean to purchase a smartphone the iPhone in Q1 of 2011 isn't as appealing. HTC and LG are having some mighty impressive offerings in Q1 of 2011 that will probably best the iPhone 4 in hardware.

I am having trouble deciding which OS I like better, Android or iOS 4.

This study feels like a pacifier designed for the iBabies that are all worked up due to Android's dominance. Now if only Apple could sponsor a study that claims every earthling surveyed said they would buy an iPhone if they had any type of cell phone coverage at their place at all - that would bring complete peace and we would stop hearing about "Fragmentation" and such.

That aside - most of the world was buying Nokias and Androids - did I miss Apple stopping iPhone sales worldwide?

Your fragmentation:

http://www.rovio.com/index.php?mact=Blogs,cntnt01,showentry,0&cntnt01entryid=47&cntnt01returnid=58

Ouch...

Despite being huge numbers, it is still a large underestimation of the actual numbers:

1) When you buy something, you are far less likely to say you would have got something else, even if you would have, because you don't want to feel any less good about your purchase.

2) Many people who now enjoy their current non-iphone phones, and were in the "Get my current phone" category, might still have ended up buying an iPhone because of the much larger mindshare the iPhone has. They probably would never even have considered their current phone if the iPhone existed.

This is so true, there is research backing up this idea called approach/avoidance conflicts. Basically our minds will make the prospect of settling seem less undesirable so we wont have to feel badly about it .

Yeah, 2 versions of 1 game, sooo much fragmentation. How is Epic Citadel working out on that iPhone 3G btw ?

Oh, I guess that I missed this, and of course I read the comments.

A list of device does not mean fragmentation. I could list PCs by different vendors with different configurations all day, yet Blizzard only had to ship 1 version of Starcraft II.

Angry Birds is going to ship 2 versions of the game, one to cather to people with handsets with lesser processors/GPUs. How is that even an example of "Android fragmentation", when the iPhone has the same fragmentation between the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS ?

You conveniently never told me how well Epic Citadel works on that iPhone 3G btw...

I love these sort of threads... seems to bring out the iPhone vs the world debate.

Bottom line seems to be that the iPhone is a great smart phone and Apple is a very desirable brand. All they need is more carriers in the US and sales will increase.

I think Apple's only challenge is how to keep up with demand... they are selling iPhones and iPads as fast as they can make them.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

And production isn't keeping up with the world wide demand anyone. So the question that should have been asked is would people have waited for an iPhone if their carrier had them occasionally in stock?

Every single person I know except one, would have gotten an iPhone if their carrier was AT&T.

So let's see - the "HD" apps for iPad - how are they working for you on the iPhone4? Oh you must be using another non-HD "version" of those apps on the iPhone. Do these different versions come to iStore developers free of effort and cost? Does iMovie work on your iPhone 3GS btw? Or do you need elaborate hacks to get it working? And how did God's own iOS 4 work for ya on the 3G? Slow?

Very funny that most people crying Fragmentation on the Rovio forum thread are iFans (some unleashed by cult leader Gruber ) who have never used an Android phone before - they are just there to express that they are pissed with Android raining on their iParade.

iPhone 4 Rules! Everything else sucks, including iPhone 3G (s)

No how can that be the iphone rules! well i guess it is because there are tens of other smart phones and one iPhone 4! take that Droid Lovers. Still if it goes one to ones with each phone iPhone dominates. Ha

More FUD? It's the highest rated smartphone on consumer satisfaction. Read the whole post. iPhone-4 has a consumer satisfaction rating higher than the iPhone 3GS which was the previous best. 77% of users say they are "very satisfied". I don't think folks would be "very satisfied" if the device dropped more calls than the average smart phone on AT&T.

Actually, those studies ask about the phone itself. When they ask about their happiness with their phone on AT&T, the satisfaction drops considerably. We all know that for many people, the phone is great, but the network stinks.

and yet id software just shipped two separate versions of Rage. One for iphone 4 and one for everything else

to be honest i was about to switch to a htc evo about 3 weeks ago, my GF purchased one and to be honest i really liked it, maybe more than my iPhone3gs. i was almost going to switch due to the bennefit of sprint which is very good in my area coverage wise... that was until she had it for a few weeks and i realized how much android is anoying and right now i would not switch after i have used heres for a while.. although the big screen is nice.

My brother (iPhone owner) has been gang attacked at work by the rabid Fandroids (who also happen to be raging anti-Apple tools, typical in the IT world) for months now. They finally convinced another iPhone-using coworker to get on the Android bandwagon. He converted into an Android propaganda-spewing spambot too. Wouldn't let my brother hear the end of iPhone suckiness. Until he finally bought an Android device. He had it for one week before he returned it and went back to his iPhone. His list of Android gripes was long, intelligently explained and very detailed. An entertaining about-face.

Thanks for that commentary. Truth is, as a user of both an Iphone4(work phone) and EVO. I would say without doubt, that android OVERALL bests the iphone4. Only thing I will hand to the iphone is simplicity, and brand recognition.

Not saying the iphone isnt a good phone, its really good. I could spend all day listing my annouces with both platforms, but I have more annoyances with iphone4

There is so much iphone envy on this thread...

Apple created the market for smart phones. Some people refuse to acknowledge it.

LOL. And its those types of people, fanatics of droid, windows, whatever, that come on threads like this and hurl "fanboy" around. They are projecting their own issues onto others.

Android: Don't Believe the Hype

Blah. Android phones are cool. They just are. iPhones are cool. They just are.

"Look, I love hammers. They pound nails like nobody's business. However, the stupid IT guys keep trying to get me to mess with screwdrivers. Well, let me just tell you right now, they absolutely suck at driving nails.

"Screwdrivers: Don't Believe the Hype"

With that said (and I love my Nexus One) I'd probably go iPhone if it became available on T-Mobile since it'd integrate nicely with the rest of my Apple gear. I find that the OS is more polished and while I'm no fan of Objective-C, I'm definitely not a Java fan either. Multiple healthy mobile platforms are good for the users of all platforms.

Android is going to have greater market share no matter what in the USA if multiple carriers don't make it available, it's that simple.
