After buying the new iPad, I can no longer stand looking at any non-retina screen. That's how good the new iPad's screen is.

So today I went to my school's computer show case to compare my new iPad to an old iPad 2 and wow. The difference was so noticeable.

Zombies ate my iPad. They were all moaning "Retina, retina". Wait, if this isn't a zombie thread...............

does anyone think it could have been way better if they had packed as many pixel as that of the iphone?

they say we wont put our ipad close to our face, but last night i wanted to read closer, and i noticed the fonts fuzzy.. am i asking for too much? lol.

I'm with you, I can see the difference. Being spoiled by the iPhone 4 screen you can't help but notice this. I am happy with the screen but it would have been great if it packed the same 326ppi.

I know I was just singing praises about the new iPad, and it's true that I still love the device, but I have to also admit it's not something I necessarily need.

After a week's use, I'm realizing more and more that it's an expensive luxury device, making life slightly more convenient to browse and check email (as in, easier to do so on my bed, for example, or easier to carry to school). The retina display and battery life and ease of carrying it are all incredible, I truly love those features. But again, are they mere luxuries over what a laptop can also do (and in some areas, the laptop trumps the iPad; typing, for example)?

It's a heavy price tag, the iPad, and we all value money differently, so I'm aware no one can answer that but me; just saying.

I sure love it though.

Oh it's a luxury all right...a necessary luxury

I finally just opened mine last night after receiving it on lauch day :)eek: for whatever reason I end doing that with all my Apple stuff).

No light leakage, uneven lights, dust, just a VERY VERY VERY gorgeous screen.

I had bought Matte screen covers but it lasted all of 10 minutes.

The iPhone is looking less and less like my favorite phone.

If you want to keep liking your iPad 2, DON'T BUY AND USE THE NEW IPAD!
I repeat, don't do it!

I still have my iPad 2, and yesterday I tried to use it all day to see if I can still justify the new iPad 3 after one week. Well....I sure as hell can! The biggest improvement is the screen. I read a lot for school and pleasure, and the iPad 2 screen is now very hard to read on for long periods of time.

Once you go retina, everything else is a blur:D

Same here. The true test was using the new ipad for a week without touching my ipad 2, thinking that I would return it if not sompletely satisfied. Just tried the ipad 2 again and have absolutely no buyer's remorse. I will be keeping the 3 without question.

The screen is the main reason for me, but the boost in CPU speed is noticeable. I did side by side comparisons surfing, text, games, photos & video. The new ipad performed better in every test.

Purchase Justified!!

It is a little over a half millimeter thicker. Anyone who says they notice the difference in thickness is imagining things. I would believe someone a little more if they said they noticed the weight difference, but it's really not a big deal.

Buy confidently. It's a terrific tablet.

Thanks for that. I went today and with the iPad that was displayed, I couldn't find a single issue, not even the yellow tint that everyone's raging about.

It was a bit hot, though, hotter than the iPad 2 that was sitting next to it, both of them being charged. I hope that isn't an issue.

Do you also own the iPad 2? if so apart from faster internet how the new iPad compares to the iPad 2? Is it worth the upgrade for someone who already owns the iPad 2?

Like apple said in their video, the iPad is all about the screen, so if you put a new screen it's a brand new experience. LoL

You know what's ridiculous about iOS? The fact that every time you choose an app to download from the app store, you're forced to see the animation of the app hoping onto your home screen. Each and every time. Apple seems to think people only buy/download one app at a time... ALWAYS.

There is no logic behind this, and it's infuriating.

I love it. My 2011 13" Air is being sold, if I need a laptop for light word processing at college (if I go to college this year) then I will buy a cheap laptop to do that. I don't need a $1100 laptop when the iPad is what gets used for 99.9% of tasks. Perhaps my iPad will suffice for the word processing.

Haven't turned my Air on in 4 weeks, and that was before I got my iPad. I just usually use my desktop at home. I don't even consider the 13" Air very portable, yeah it's light for a laptop but it's still annoying to use in a car, on a train or of course, on a plane. Laptop lids suck.

Can't stand that either. Really hoping there will be a feature in future updates that make these apps just download in the background without switching to the home screen.

Same here. It's more of a "luxury" device. I definitely love mine but other than going on trips I rarely use it. My iPhone is my go-to device for everything. I just don't want to return it now that I have it with all the glory that the retina has lol.

So pleased with my iPad 3. I've owned all generations, too. I definitely notice an improvement in performance with the 1GB of ram, multitasking is so enjoyable now. That alone is worth the upgrade over the 2. :)

New screen is just incredible.

Too good infact, I downloaded some magazines that haven't been updated for the new display and couldn't believe how bad they look. The text looked awful.
That's got to be some kind of iOS/app bug (or maybe a poor design decision). Done correctly, the images shouldn't be any worse than the iPad2 display, assuming that they're shown at the same size (that is, the size that you see, as measured by a ruler in your hand).

I think the screen gets more impressive with time. When you first buy it and are looking for a huge upgrade with all the hype around it some may be disappointed, but the more apps I see in their updated form and the more I go back and forth between this screen and my other electronics the more I appreciate it.

True for me too. Although my initial impression was nice it did not blow me away. But I am more and more impressed with the display the more I use it (which is a lot).

Yeah, just get an Apple Bluetooth keyboard for $60-70. You can wirelessly connect it to the iPad and it works great. Even better than on the MacBook Air, because you can basically arrange the screen and keyboard just like you want them, i.e. mounting the iPad to a stand that sits close to your face on eye level while the keyboard is on your lap, so much more comfortable. You can't do that with a laptop.

because of the amazing screen, i have been using my ipad 3 a heck lot more than my ipad 1 (which i sold it off already).

what a joy of a screen. what a beauty. everything just looks damn good

Every review prior to the actual launch of the new iPad touted the awesomeness of the screen. If the iPad had all of these same upgrades minus the screen, I probably would have stuck with my 2. But wow, the new screen is downright incredible. I'm typing this from my 15" MacBook Pro, wishing this display was retina, but alas it is not :(

The display is utterly amazing. Even though I've had a retina display on my iPhone for the last 1-1/2 years, the far larger screen size on the iPad makes this an all-new experience. And the colors seriously pop.

Those reporting faster surfing and app launching and such (vs the ipad 2) should realize that the CPU is exactly the same as the 2. It's the 1 GB of RAM that's making the difference here. Which is fine with me. Sometimes it's better to upgrade RAM than CPU, and I'm seeing nice benefit on my new iPad compared to the 2. The GPU upgrade makes a big difference in other areas like screen responsiveness and 3D games.

I agree with others that the retina screen on the new iPad makes the screen pop and I find myself using the iPad even more than I did before. I cannot say how this compares to iPad 2, but it is a vast improvement over iPad 1. I also think being able to use LTE, which where I am is incredibly fast, is another nice improvement.
