This is stupid!!!

WTF apple?

I have to do workarounds now to download the full installer!!!!?????

So WTF with this smaller installer?? I remember this was the case with previous versions of macOS but now that I'm affected for the first time and have been getting the 22MB CRAP version instead of the 5+GB full installer, I'm PISSED.

In September, I initiated the Mojave download but cancelled it because I needed to do something else. Now, that I want to download it, IT'S NOT GIVING IT TO ME ANYMORE!!!

I know that there is a utility called Mojave patch that works I guess, but I don't like using those. Is there any way to get the damn AppStore to download the FULL installer???????

Are Mac users RANDOMLY selected for the small 22MB crap installer??? Is it lack of drive space??? I've got 53GB free right now, so WTF with a little 5GB file.

Please respond. I wanted to create a 10.14.1 USB bootable installer and STILL am wasting my time with this CRAP.

Thank you.

P.S.: For those who don't want to download the installer twice, simply COPY and PASTE the installer to another drive or partition, so that you will still have it after the installation DELETES the original installer post-installation.

^^^^Yep, I downloaded it for the FW update and the HOPE that I can use it soon. I'm still waiting for the web driver for my Pascal GPU.

Lou
If you update the firmware, then check your System Information. Let me know if you have the same bug whereby the Boot ROM Version string is not the correct one for your EFI. This happened on my '17 MBP TB and '15 MBP. The strings were xxx.0.0.0.0 but checking with the 'eficheck' tool and --integrity-check switch retrieved the correct version. I've submitted a bug report with Apple.

The whole process is a mess. In the App Store (which I hate), when running 10.13.6 I chose "Download" and I wound up with a 22MB file which I then proceeded to do the update.

After I am on Mojave, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get the full installer again.

Even with that one site that has the Mojave Patcher tool, I did the download (and it counted down all 6GB of it), and saved it to my desktop, and when it was done, lo-and-behold, I still had a 22MB stub installer. How can that be?

So I used the tool again to download, but did not close out of the tool, and the 6GB installer was there this time, and I was able to make a couple 10.14.1 USB installers.

But, like I said, the process is unnecessarily difficult. I wonder if Apple is making it hard to get the full installer on purpose?

It's weird, I've never had this problem once and I redownload installers all of the time because I archive the full installer after every point update. I just go into the app store, type "Mojave" into the search field, click download, it asks if I'm sure, and the full 6GB installer comes down.

Same. I just tested, I was able to re-download the full 6GB installer from the App Store (it actually took me to Software Update via System Preferences, but then it re-downloaded, no problem). I'm currently on 10.14.1, and it downloaded 10.14.1 in full (6 GB).

I just downloaded the full installer on my 2017 iMac through the App Store. I always download the full installer and make a USB recovery drive after each point release. Had no issues...

As others have already posted, once you have Mojave up and running you can download the full installer via the App Store. Here are the details…

1 - In the left panel of the App Store -- Search for Mojave
2 - When Mojave shows up in the main panel -- click on View
3 - On the Mojave page -- click on Get
4 - Clicking on Get pops up the System Update preference, which asks if you a sure you want to download the update -- click on Download
5 - The full update should end up in your applications folder -- "Install macOS Mojave".

Be careful if you are just experimenting — once the full download was started, I did not find a way to pause/stop it.

I have good news. You can download the full installer very easily. When your machine is already running Mojave, you can go back to Mojave in the App Store and click on the "Get" button to download the full 6GB installer.
Where was the 6GB installer after it downloaded?

TIA - GetRealBro

On High Sierra still...

I downloaded 10.14
Now I tried to download 10.14.1 - but cannot get it to download the whole file. Yes the 10.14 download is off my current machine.

I was able to download the 6GB installer for 10.14.1 and what I found interesting is that there was no update message in Launchpad. Secondly after the 6GB download was complete it deleted itself. I tried it twice and it got deleted twice.

I'm beginning to think and it's just a guess that Apple is treating macOS system deliveries much like it does with iOS. They want to keep you current and make it tough to downgrade and it possibly has something to do with APFS because prior to Mojave you could run macOS in HFS+

^^^^OS updates always delete themselves after installation is complete. That's why, IMO, it's important, before installation, to save a copy on a flash drive or another disk.

I don’t think the missing Mojave 10.14.1 download(s) is that simple. For example…

While running 10.14.1 I downloaded the full (6+GB) installer via the App Store/Software Update system preference. I monitored the download with Peak Hour 4. All 6+GB of data was downloaded. But even after a pretty through search of the visible directories, /etc and /var I haven’t found the update.

Does anyone know where the Software Update system preference stores it’s downloads prior to installation?

FWIW I have a copy of the full 10.14.1 installer that I downloaded while running El Capitan on our iMac. But I still can't download it on our Mini while running El Capitan, High Sierra, or Mojave. Yes I know I could just move the installer from the iMac. But others may not have a spare Mac that will download the full installer.

OK so why is my 2012 Mini still running 10.14 after I downloaded the full installer for 10.14.1?

I have never had an issue downloading an OS over the years, and saving it to another device before installation. It always downloads to the Applications Folder in my experience.

I was a bit surprised, but just Application Monitor to find the files the mini-installer had open and found the folder 'macOS Install Data' it was downloading the installer into at the root level of the harddrive and copied that before letting the installer run.
Just seems to be a different place than the usual Application folder

/macOS Install Data

I just downloaded the full installer via App Store, which launched SWU, on my MBP'17, while already running 10.14. The installer autolaunched. I quit the installer. "Install Mac OS Majave" is in my Applications folder. I presume I can make a USB installer via command line at this point, if I can find a USB drive around here somewhere.

I agree. I've been doing full install downloads for years and they have always ended up in the Applications folder. BUT that isn't happening for me on our Mini with the 10.14.1 installer regardless of which OS I'm running :(
