4 numbers was the minimum then it changed to 6 numbers.

Are you using the non-number password option using letters and numbers? I don't use that so not familiar enough. Also, this could be a point of confusion for many reading this.
Umm, no. Not true at all. 4 has always been the minimum, at least since the 3gs.

I should have stated I'm using the custom alphanumeric code. Always used a 3-letter and digit code, but was forced to go up to 4 or more.

6 is now the default, but isn't the minimum; you can still use 4 if you prefer.
On the other hand, you _should_ use 6 digits if you are afraid of sophisticated and well-financed hackers. Whatever security measures a hacker can get around, in the end they have to enter the correct passcode, and 6 digits makes that exactly 100 times harder. If you are afraid someone might steal your phone, then invest lots of money and two days of their time to unlock your phone, knowing they'd have to spend 6 months should make you feel better.

No passcode: You better are very sure that you have nothing to hide on your phone. Not only from your partner, your kids or parents, but also from any hacker who wants to get at your money.

You should have indeed.

This passcode change is for beta users only

Before the update, you can have two character password IF you choose the alphanumeric option.

By default the set up prompts you to enter 6 number digit (where previous it was 4 numbers) BUT you could always choose other options (tiny link on the bottom of the screen/top of the keyboard) and they'd let you:

1) do an alphanumeric <-this on a non beta version should still let you do 2 characters minimal (or at least I was able to)
2) custom numeric (in case you'd like 5 numbers instead of 4 or 6)
3) choose 4 number passcode

Hopefully this clears it up for everyone.

That's wrong. My passcode was just '3' until this update made me make it longer

What, no. Absolutely not. I've been using iOS since iPhone OS 1. The minimum has always been 4 digits/characters (once that became an option in iOS 9).

No. Longer pass codes are harder to crack but are targeted more. Using a short code in a world of long codes leaves you hidden in plain sight. Besides. It's to unlock my recreational device. Not important information. I want convenience as well as security.

I used alpha numeric, so I could use letters, but interesting to see numbers working like that too.

Bro, you're wrong. You can set a custom alphanumeric password and just type in numbers which brings only the keypad up. The password can be only 1 value which I set to 3.

Thats funny, because back when it launched in iOS 9 I tried using it to make a 3 digit code and I was prompted the minimum is 4 characters. So you may have had a freak glitch that allowed it. I tried it on 2 devices at the time.

It's not a glitch, I've done it since iOS 7 or 8. Go to your passcode settings > hit custom alphanumeric number, just type in 3, repeat to confirm code. When the phone is locked now it'll show a keypad and you hit 3 then ok and it'll unlock.

As I said, I've tried to do a 3 character one starting in iOS 9 when Alphanumeric was fully implemented. Previous to iOS 9 there was Simple Password, but it wasn't 100% the same as how iOS 9 implemented it. So unless you used the same exact iPhone and never restored since iOS 7 -> 9, then it would have been impossible for you to retain the 1 character passcode. Again, assuming it wasn't just a freak glitch on your device.
