If this thing ships with a headphone jack I am going to flip out.

Because it has one or it does not have one anymore? And with either answer, what's it matter to you:
  1. if you are in the anti-3.5mm group and it has one or doesn't have one, you can still connect via bluetooth or lightning or lighting with 3.5mm adapter. No net positive or negative effect on you at all.
  2. if you are in the pro-3.5mm group and it has one, business as usual. No net positive effect on you at all either.
  3. if you are in the pro-3.5mm group and it doesn't have one, embrace the wonderful world of dongles and/or go spend more money for inferior audio quality bluetooth, and/or carry 2 sets of headphones or 2 sets of connecting wires.
Bottom line: whether it ships with one or without one affects nobody except those in group #3.

Normal iPad with smaller bezels and crap lcd display, the revolution.
Unfortunately, for some of us, the PWM backlighting system used in OLED displays isn't an option due to severe eye pain and headaches.

Also, regarding the headphone jack, the iPad Pro 9.7" doesn't sound as detailed as an iPhone 6S Pro. Not terribly disappointed, but it's useless to me.

That "new" microphone slot is really only moving it back to the top center, where it was on the Air and Mini 2.

Apple must have felt that they perform better in that location, instead of in the corner by the camera and volume switches.

I'm waiting for a razor thin

Why would you want want this? Lay a razor blade down on a flat surface where an iPad might be placed. Now pick it up. Repeat as often as you handle an iPad.

Now imagine that razor blade at iPad size. Put a little pressure on the middle of it and watch it bend (easily).

I realize that Apple has done an incredible job of making us think "thinner" = "the future," but there is always a "thinness" limit for the utility of any tool. In other words, there's a point where thinner works increasingly against the tool's owner. While you are not the only person who thinks he/she craves "thinner", it is highly unusual to see any of "us" making comments about how existing iDevices are much too thick.

IMO, "thinner" continues to be one of those solutions in search of a problem (that almost nobody seems to have)... spun such that we are conditioned to imagine that the next generation of anything from Apple must be thinner. For what exactly? What does even "thinner" get us with something like this?

I don't know why people expected this to be some radical redesign. Apple doesn't do that anymore. They slowly update design to stretch out updates. 2018 iPads will be more of a change. Unfortunately I think a lot of people have a hollow feeling after holding off on buying a 9.7 IPP.

You're not wrong, Apple typically doesn't do this, but I have to agree with his/her original point. The iPad has had basically the same look/design for maybe 4-5 years now? I was hoping for something a little more drastic myself here. I get the whole "it's a rectangular screen, what do you want it to look like?" thing, but Apple could have made a splash here and potentially reinvigorated the iPad market with this and iOS 11 improvements (they still might, I am likely buying still). I think Apple has the ability to push this type of device further, it just hasn't, unfortunately.

Ha. More sharp edges. Sure, they dig into your fingers painfully when holding the device for longer than a few minutes at a time, but it gives the buyer the sense of sexy sexy thinness when they see it on display. It'll look great in adverts and help sell it. And that's what really matters.

I was really expecting a more radical design change and not just remove a mm off the bezels... Oh well this is Apple now so should not be surprised.

Ah, yes, the epidemic of hand injuries caused by holding one of the hundreds of millions iPads sold for more than a few minutes. This is a thing.

They should seriously include the Apple Pencil with all iPad Pros. Whats the real difference between the Pros and the regular unless you're willing to pay another $100 for the pencil??

This makes you wonder, why keep the 9.7 IPRO after this model? seems redundant to me unless they are trying to hit a price point - it looks like the 10.5 can come in at $ 699

It also looks cleaner, especially when you have a protruding camera and flash in that corner. It's why they chose those microphone locations for the 2017 iPad. That was after they had planned to do it with the new Pros.

I've said from the very beginning of the 10.5" (at the time the size was undetermined), that it would replace the 9.7" in amungst the complaints of "another model in the lineup", and I stick by that today.
However, I have realized that keeping the current 9.7" would be useful in order to have an entry level iPad Pro, as they coud reduce the price and have it as the last gen model rather than a smaller model. Then next year it would be replaced by this 10.5" iPad as the sucessor comes out.

They don't include it because not all customers will use it. I don't mind that although I do wish they decreased the price of both the iPad Pros and accessories.

Because not everyone needs or wants the Apple Pencil.

But if you don't want an Apple Pencil, might as well not get the Pro and get the $329 iPad instead?

No because you might want the bigger screen on the 12.9" or you might want the Smart Keyboard for typing, not everyone is an artist and needs the Pencil, I brought it because it's great for writing notes on the screen and so on.
