Look forward to the upgraded 9.7 as soon as possible. Then next tablet after that will be the second gen Amoled one in 2019...if I can resist buying a first gen.

Just tried out a Tab S3 for a couple days, and predictably the screen is gorgeous. Nice and quick too,at least for now. Glass back is better than the plastic that series had before but it's no aluminum.

Apple's manufacturing partners will begin limited production of the rumored 10.5-inch iPad Pro this month, according to IHS Markit analyst Rhoda Alexander, who spoke with Forbes over the weekend.

ipad-pro-video-grab.jpg

At this point, however, it remains unclear whether the 10.5-inch iPad Pro will be announced later this spring, at WWDC 2017 in June, or in the fall or later, as rumors are lacking consensus.

Japanese blog Mac Otakara previously said Apple would unveil its new iPad Pro lineup at a March event, but that rumor failed to materialize. Instead, Apple last week announced a low-cost 9.7-inch iPad, 128GB iPhone SE, new Apple Watch bands, and a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus through its Newsroom.

The latest rumor from DigiTimes claims Apple is planning to unveil the 10.5-inch iPad Pro at an early April event to "mark the inauguration" of its new Apple Park campus, which opens to employees next month. While this timeline could be correct, it's unlikely Apple would have shared such specific plans with the supply chain.

Alexander believes an April launch "still looks somewhat tentative," but she said "the necessary elements are starting to come together," so it's possible Apple could do a limited spring launch in the United States and select other countries, followed by a wider rollout as production ramps up.

A person with sources within Apple's supply chain told MacRumors that they still expect the 10.5-inch iPad Pro to launch in the spring. The person requested full confidentiality due to the nature of their position.A handful of Apple analysts that we spoke to reiterated that a fall launch is more likely, however, and if volume production has yet to begin, then a launch later this year rather than sooner is certainly a possibility.

Apple pundit John Gruber made a good point last week about why it would make sense for Apple to wait until at least October to announce the 10.5-inch iPad Pro: to avoid spoiling the design of the much-rumored iPhone with an edge-to-edge OLED display, which is expected to be announced in September. But just how much of a spoiler the 10.5-inch iPad Pro might be remains to be seen, as rumors are conflicting about whether the tablet will have an edge-to-edge display or simply a narrow bezel design. It is also uncertain if Apple will remove the Home button on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro in line with the "iPhone 8."

Back in August, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple would launch a 10.5-inch iPad Pro and new 12.9-inch iPad Pro in "2017," and he generally shares accurate information, so there is a good chance the tablets are coming at some point this year. He also predicted the low-cost 9.7-inch iPad.

Just a few weeks ago, mobile marketing firm Fiksu spotted four new iPad identifiers in its device data. As it turns out, these model identifiers are not for the new 9.7-inch iPad, suggesting that they could be for Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular versions of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Fiksu suggested the new iPad models could launch within a month, which would suggest a release by the end of April.

[doublepost=1490667178][/doublepost]Waiting until the much anticipated iPhone 8 launch would be stupid. If we combine it with those rumors the phone everyone will want - since I'm hearing 3 new models will launch, but you'll only want one of them, will be very limited in supply. Also launch an iPad Pro next month for no other reason most people can't afford an $800 iPad and a $1000 phone back to back. That $800 is a guess. I actually expect a nice price drop like we saw with the new 9.7 iPad. Tablets aren't selling well. I'm in if it's priced right. Otherwise I can buy a very nice windows laptop for half the price. Listening Apple???

The 10.5 IPP will be a good fit for my use pattern as my main mobile device. My guess for the release is 2nd quarter 2017 so the consumer can absorb the cost and be ready for the 3rd quarter release of the iPhone.

Regarding concern over debuting new tech/design on iPad ahead of iPhone...

Would be interesting if they announced the next gen iPhone at WWDC on June 5, with availablity set for June 29 (exact date of original iPhone availability) thus affording a Fall iPad Pro announcement.

Could be fun.

No interest at all. OLED would be interesting but that isn't happening anytime soon. For that matter, OLED macs would be even better.

It's up to Apple to make ipads worthwhile or more than just a toy for a kid or doc viewer with pencil.

I think the focus for the iPad will certainly be a new display with OLED, less bezels, edge to edge, but more importantly, Tim Cooks futuristic goals with the iPad being a replacement for a PC. My question would be, where does the iPad lead from here in terms of doing so.

Apple is leading on this path where they want the iPad to be a PC replacement, but to what extent and what changes are they going to make to allow this to happen.

My feeling is we won't see any new hardware like this rumour until after the next iPhone is launched.

If Tim's vision of the iPad to be the new desktop be realised, we need to start seeing at WWDC iOS bridging the gap towards a 'conventional operating system.'

I'm just not convinced that iOS will ever be that operating system. For me iOS is about consumption and very light creativity at best.

i'm a 50/50 on a new a 10.5 inch iPad part of me will want it but ill regret it when they make an oled in about a year.

Mac product updates are well overdue, but no "leaks" yet? Either it's very hidden OR there are no updates...

He said they're in the pipe line, properly the Transcontinental Pipeline with the time it takes.

Exactly my toughts. Not a lot people will buy a new iPP and an iPhone at the same time. So for me the iPP will debut in the first half of the year.

Prediction: everyone has gotten it all wrong. The new 10.5" device is the new flagship iPhone, the iPhone X XL Plus. It costs $1299 but ships with free AirPods so you don't have to try to hold the thing up to your ear.
The sad thing is I've always wished this was a legit thing, being able to do phone stuff with my laptop, desktop, ipad, etc

Why would Apple release new iPads, then next month release a new design iPad? That makes zero sense. October minimum

I tend to agree with this. However, that makes the new iPad with inferior display all the more sad, since the 10.9" would then presumably take the place of the 9.7" iPad Pro.
Yeah, I guess it's hard to say what Apple is planning to do... they've been all over the place lately.

If production goes smoothly I can't see them waiting till fall. It would just be money sitting in a warehouse actually costing them to keep it there. It also means a crowded product line announcement in the fall, where I imagine Apple wants all eyes on their phones and don't need or want to dilute the focus with another related product. And if they are trying to revive IPad sales, having it be a minor announcement in the fall isn't good PR. Do it in June.

Doesn't mean that this is what they will do, of course.

Keeping that pipeline jam packed with stuff Tim!! A whole slew of.....red phones...at even a higher price than regular!! Amazing!! /s

Can we have new freakin' Macs already??

The mini is probably dead. The 9.7" will be an inexpensive lower line iPad. The 10.5" and 12.9" will be the pro lines starting at a higher $599 price point. I think it's a good line up imo.

No, the mini will likely become a pro product as well, high price and margins for a niche market that definitely wants such a product. The Pencil support is even more essential now that Apple is actually showing commercials where the pencil is being used for taking notes. The mini makes one-handed iPad use practical allowing for use of the pencil.

I'm not sure. It would mean a 24-month cycle for the 12.9" iPad. It would also mean both the 9.7" and 12.9" iPad Pro being on the A9 series processor for a full year after the release of the first A10-based devices (iPhone 7). It also means that the current 9.7" iPad Pro needs to justify a $270 price (or 82%) price premium over the new 9.7" iPad for six months while having a reduced processor gap advantage than for the last 12 months (A9X vs A9).

Who really cares??? No HOME button..OMG!! Another inch of screen space.. What a game changer.. Faster clock speeds, you gotta be kidding!!! Apple will die when the Millenials they target get interested in something else in oh.. About 10 years.. That should be about time they all mature!!

Apple is one keynote event short. WWDC is software. Sept/oct is iPhone November is iPad. No macs then.

Agree.

Honestly push out all of the hardware that you like but short of putting proper I/O (i.e a USB port) on it it isn't going to change anything significantly and lets face it the new models will ship with a lightning port only. Software is the area that is going to push the iPad on the most.

Assume they will be carrying on with the silly price gouging on the storage tiers..

I'm with the camp waiting for a 12.9" iPad Pro model. The one the job gave me is EXCELLENT, save for a few "needs to be there" features.

We don't need a smaller keyboard, so if it's a 13.3" iPad Pro with the same footprint, all the better.
