I disagree. I prefer the 12 inch iPad Pro. It's like a laptop but slimmer and more mobile. I use it to watch Netflix in bed, to show clients presentations, so may things, it's terrific. I hope they don't get ride of the various sizes. It reminds me of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Captain Picard's desk always had various pads on his desk. We are in the future.
Agree about the ST reference. They still had, though, 7.9" sized PADDs.

iOS has been the limiting factor with iPads since the Air 2. As usual it is great iOS hardware and the software to finally accompany the iPad Pro line will be here in October.

Mine will be here Tuesday! It's so weird how they didn't just release it alongside the iOS upgrade in September. It's probably because the A10X will be upstaged by the A11 by then, lol. The A10X is plenty fast, but it's just weird that your new phone is slightly faster than your pro-branded tablet. I mean, maybe it won't be, but last year the A9X in the 9.7" was knocked out by the A10 about six months later. It's just a strange way to do things. Perhaps it will maintain a performance lead due to having three cores and the fact that it does a lot more multitasking and you can get a lot more work done now vs. an iPhone.

It is by far the best iPad ever. But I still just feel like my current iPad is good enough. I feel like the iPad product has reached that same point in its life cycle as the iPod did by its 3rd or 4th generation where you just don't feel the need to get one until your old one stops working entirely, literally old one needs to break first.

Maybe my opinion will change I'm sure many of you have been waiting for this specific update for a while and I'm sure the new 120Hz panel will make it incredible to use day to day.

Problem with "pro" definition is that there are houndreds of professions and the reviewer focus on a handful. Perfect size for me at work in 12.9 as it almost matches and A4/letter format while the lack of x-code means nothing for my work.

Reviewers have likely been using mouse/trackpad/macOS for decades and are therefore likely biased. Will be interesting to see the iPad generation review a laptop at some point.

I have the 12.9" Pro and my 12" MacBook is more portable and is usually the device I grab when I am going to be on the run. It's why I'm looking forward to getting the 10.5" tomorrow. I am hoping it will be the perfect in-between size that blends power and portability.

If it's being called -- and marketed -- as a computer, then why is it OK to have a touch screen when a laptop (or iMac, for that matter) isn't?

Not trying to agitate anyone, just truly wondering.

(Yes, I know one it's a tablet... but so is a SurfacePro)
I agree with you, the only reason I dont own an iPad at this moment is because I cant use a Mouse. This cant be fully considered as a computer and less than a Pro device if I dont have a mouse where i can use it as Pro entire day. With iOS 11 this got closer, but still no mouse. Just imagine, what you can do with a mouse inside of a Pro apps like Office, iMovie, Photoshop etc... will be awesome. Personally i use a lot citrix to connect to my computer workstations. They invented a Citrix mouse that can work inside this app, thats huge. Other Apps can do the same. Its called Citrix x1 mouse

Seems to be an awesome pro level iPad..!!

But having said that I invested in iPad Pro 9.7 and its accessories like smart keyboard. So I would not be upgrading so soon, as with iOS 11, most the features should be available to my iPad too.

I have a first generation 12.9 I treat like a palette. The hardware and software are great, I've got iOS 11 on it and it's been fantastic so far, that being said, we need way better software and I don't mean iOS.

I agree. Most graphic design professionals will tell you they'd consider an iPad Pro w/Pencil, once Adobe CC is running natively on iOS.

Does the Smart Keyboard work on your lap or is it too floppy?

I tried the 9.7" and the 12.9" at the Apple Store sitting down in a chair. The stiffness of the Apple Keyboard is fine, but the width for the 9.7" is too narrow for your lap (unless you are really thin like a 24" to 28" waist?). The 12.9" works well sitting on your lap. I also tried out the NEW Logitech Keyboard that has the pencil holder at the top. That is DEFINITELY too felmsy as it uses a thin piece of material where the keyboard and the iPad meet and gaps (see photo) where the Apple Keyboard has a thicker, consistent material. Which is too bad because I really like t

he Logitech Keyboard over the Apple.

I really enjoy using a iPad but until you can do a full backup on it without a computer then it will not replace one. with iOS 11 it will get a lot better but not there yet

Just because you can't get work done on it, doesn't mean that applies to everyone. It could also be turned on it's head: Say you were an illustrator, you might say: "A Mac is not a full fledged computer! I can't even draw on it with a stylus! It doesn't have 120 hz! It can't even take proper photos! Useless!" All depends on your point of view. But saying it isn't a full computer because it doesn't have X app or X feature is ridiculous. People also used to say the Mac wasn't a 'real computer'.

There are dozens of accessories on the market that will allow the use of a stylus (e.g., Wacom), a 120hz monitor (e.g., pretty much any gaming monitor) for the Mac, or any of hundreds of cameras available. However, I am not aware of any way whatsoever to get certain software development tools onto the iPad.

Indeed, the only way to use an iPad for development is to remote-access another proper computer - whether through ssh or a gui-based software. I would argue that is not really used the iPad for development through, as the development is happening on another computer and the iPad is just a dumb terminal in that situation.

Basically, I can't think of any point of view where someone can't get work done on a Mac, or that a Mac isn't a real computer. It might not be the most optimal tool, and it might require cumbersome accessories that make it's use not ideal; but it can work in every situation. On the flip side, there are many situations where the iPad cannot be used to get work done under any circumstance because there are no accessories or software to get around it's inherent limitations.

I was gonna be all over the 10.5on the lead-up. However I'm disappointed with the size increase of the device. 10mm taller and 5mm wider. Would mean new ASK and cases, and just not worth it over my 9.7" 256GB. Will prob wait til next year.

There's no guarantee the new iPhone(s) will be using an A11 chip, we are just assuming it will.

Might be time to finally upgrade the old iPad2, though it's been a stalwart, still chugging along on iOS 7. Perfect for my kids to tool around on. Might need my own iPad Pro just for Daddy.

And this reception probably drives the final nail on the iPad mini coffin.

To me (and my wife), the iPad mini has the perfect combo of size and weight. This because we use it exclusivly on all our travels broad, as our main communication link back across the pond.

Will the iPad mini ever be updated with the latest innards? Probably never. It may be now end of life, and superseded by the iPhone Plus.

[We fit the "small-footprint" minority, as we both also prefer the iPhone SE, and avoid all phablets for phone/communication/music player use.]

Just ordered four! One for my wife and three for my kids. Went with 512GB. Delivers tomorrow!!

Just ordered nine, for my family and the neighbors' wives! They'll deliver tonight!

iCloud backup, no computer needed.

Ordered the new 12.9 and it arrives tomorrow. Nice replacement for my iPad Air (released Nov 2013). Hope this one will also last me 4 years.

I'm sorry Apple but compared to macOS I still see this as a very expensive consumption device.
To me, my 12.9" iPad has become my travel computing device. It's better for reading, watching images and video than a laptop. I wouldn't want to travel without it. If I have bigger computing needs, I do travel with both my iPad and my MBP, but if I want to travel lighter, it is iPad-only. Just, yesterday, I whipped up a quick spreadsheet on a couch using Numbers and Safari in split view. It didn't feel much slower or more cumbersome than using a laptop.
