I did a comparison between the bootup of snow leopard and lion, and theres like a 10-15 second difference between the 2, SL being faster. I read up on some sites that, benchmark wise, SL is faster, but it seems that the benchmarks just dont seem to like Lion very much. Would bootcamp slow down the boot time?

That was my experience too. After i upgraded ti Lion my MBP was slower and the battery did not last as long. It went from 7-8 hours to 5-6 hours. Activity monitor did not show anything out of the ordinary so I wiped the drive and reinstalled SL again. My battery and boot times went back to normal.

Hard to say if Lion is faster or slower than SL...seems to run just as well on my hackintosh, maybe a bit slower. On my MBP it's impossible to judge the two as I upgraded from a 5400 RPM drive to an SSD right before installing.

These are both clean installs, btw. Never been a fan of OS "updates"

Wouldn't Mountain Lion make more sense? Idk.

I do hope for a ___ Lion one day though. Actually, I hope Apple releases enough fixes for Lion that it becomes good again. My new Air is slow, buggy, weird...

It seems clear that OS X and iOS are merging for the benefit of a single platform, and since the lion is the king of the cat world, it all points to a completely new direction in the naming structure.

HOw do you do a clean install of lion when it only comes as an update?

Mountain lion seems possible.

A mountain lion is also known as a puma, which has already been used.

But, Apple is not overly strict with the usage of big cat names given that panther is also used to refer to the jaguar, puma, and leopard.

Taxonomically, panther relates to panthera, which is genus of big cat that includes the lion, tiger, leopard, and jaguar.

The mountain lion is also referred to as the cougar.

Mac OS X 10.8 Cougar?

My vote is for OS X 10.8 Cougar.

The two issues I noticed when upgrading to Lion on my base 2011 15" MBP is a slower boot time and lower battery life. Other than that Lion has worked great for me.

Really? Did not know that part - that pretty much settles it, Cougar had always been my pick before this thread, maybe they'll go with Mountain Lion just to avoid the connotations, but we'll know ;).

The visual being used by Apple for OS X Lion is the traditional "King of the Jungle". Mountain Lion or Cougar would be seen as a step back.
Plus iOS isn't linked to cats, and it's clear OS X and iOS are on a collision course. It's the end for stale cat monikers.

Hmm, maybe 10.8 Elephant? I was trying to change the screensaver, and found that, apart from a lion, the only other animal picture is an elephant. Speaking of which, how do you change the wallpaper for ALL the screens/spaces at once:confused: seems like you have to do it individually? Also, 10.8 Ocelot seems kinda cool, but mountain lion sounds cool as well :)

I think we'll see Apple follow Intel's CPU strategy, for their OS. That is tick-tock, so major revisions one year or so, then a slight upgrade/clean up the next, ect.

What is your boot time with SL? I have the winter 2011 15'' mbp with 4gb ddr3 and 2.2ghz i7 and I was getting 25 seconds then it went up to 50 with lion.

Resume will naturally mean that boot times are longer, as it isn't just booting the machine, it's also restoring apps and documents to their previous state.

......and yet it's still WAY slower the SL when you untick the resume box on shutdown/restart....

Guys, if the apple politics continue we will see one cross-platform OS for all apple devices in the future. Sadly...

Just went back to SL (from ****** lion) and it feels so smooth and home. Was initially waiting for 10.7.1 and after it was released it didn't fixed anything for me. SL with hyperdock and a few terminal tweeks is all I need, blazing fast and economic with ram/battery.
