oh i know, i had to buy a maxed out 64gb m1 max 14inch pro for a new job, after deduction i'm still paying 2k out of pocket. my point is, even though businesses gets deductible, the fact that owning a 5 figure machine that gets outpaced so quick for so much cheaper is still a bitter pill to swallow.
That's the price to pay for technology needed to do one's job.
At least getting paid helped cushion the financial hit and you have a toy to play with. 😆

Based on my past experiences, and considering that my Mom is about to buy a M1 Pro 14" MBP to replace her 2012 13" MBP, I'd say wait exactly 2 more months and get the M2 Pro 14/16 MBP, if you don't have a pressing need and/or a Mac as old as hers'?
Your mom need not wait for M2 if she wants 13" size MBP. My partner upgraded her 2016 MBP to a 13" M2 MBP and is very happy with it.

OTOH if she wants the higher end like I do or a larger display, she should wait and see what the 14/16" M2 MBPs look like. I expect announcement in October.

I would like to upgrade my 2012 mini since support for Catalina is coming to an end. I don't need the M2 performance gains but since I keep my gear for a long time I'd like to get the M2 model to help increase it's useful life. But if they don't release it until next year I hate to be running on an old OS with unpatched bugs.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. I was waiting for the new Air, but ended up deciding to go with a 14" MBP instead. Of course I'd like to hold out for a new model. My current computer is on its last breath, but I also have a work machine that can hold me over. :)

Umm, you really need to ad a caveat here. Unless you get these items at smoking hot prices.

I just bought the AirPod Pros and an Apple Watch Series 7 for $75 off and $150 off, respectively. Nothing in the upcoming updated models are worth it to me to pay full price for those when I can get the current tech at such discounts. Plus, I wasn't really looking to buy either one of these, but their low price points pushed me over the edge so I said, "eh, why not?"

The 2012 is on its last legs, and probably won't last until Oct/Nov. It'd be nice to get the new M2 Pro/Max going forward, but she needs it now.

14" is the one she's wanting, she wants a slightly larger screen for her eyes 10 years later, wants to keep Magsafe, and doesn't have any interest in the Touch Bar.

I mean, 10 years and having me upgrade the ram, storage and replacing the battery..(Twice?) it has served her well. Our family tends to hang on to our tech forever, but I think this is a new record? (7 years is usually the longest any of us last with our daily driver computers)

I just hope the M-series MBP does at least half as well.

So should I feel bad for recently having bought an iPad Pro, an S7 Apple Watch and an iPhone 13 Pro Max? It can all get a bit neurotic. You either worry that you should wait for the next shiny iProduct just over the horizon or you worry that you're early adopting. I need a new MacBook Pro but since I'm still saving and I can't buy one quite yet, that makes me feel.. er.. better? My head hurts.

Also, don't purchase any type of AR/VR reality headset since Apple may announce it next year.

Fixed that for you... and add, the old trusted phrase.... 'Never buy a Rev A initial Apple product.'

For those who bought a $17K Rev 0 Apple Watch Edition...

The Studio is quite new, so do not expect an upgrade to M2 soon. And the Studio to a small extent cannibalizes the much pricier top Macbook Pros, so Apple will likely wait a while after high end M2 MBPs come out - which has not happened yet.

I can wait! I got this 3080ti for graphics work, so might as well get some use out of it for a while. It will be interesting to see how M2 emerges into other product lines. Read about some M1 Ultra stuff that may (should) get fixed in the next gen.

Following the iOS 14.6 and watchOS 7.5 updates last year, Apple Watch Series 3 users have to unpair and re-pair the device from its linked ‌iPhone‌ when updating watchOS because the Apple Watch does not have enough internal storage to complete an update independently.

That is not correct - please correct it. I own a Series 3 and the last few updates went super smoothly - no need to unpair and re-pair.
Agree - and great to see they made that happen despite the age of the hardware

I can count the number of v4 systems on the fingers of one hand, v5 is still quite a ways off.

October is not quite a ways off. out of the gate there will be some scarcity but by October they'll be shipping systems.

By the time Apple trotts on stage to give a 3-4 month lead time "sneak preview" , PCI-e v5 systems will be shipping in substantive volume. By December you'll need more hands.

The Mac mini is the Model T of Apple. No need to change anything on the outside. Can anyone image Tim Cook saying "With the new plexiglass cover we have reduced the recyclability of the device. We are so proud of what the team has achieved"?
The only change that I hope for, is a processor which allows me to run two 5K displays.
I was watching a video talking about how the Model T was built too durable and so buyers would drive them too long for the manufacturers to sell them something newer.

The Mini delays are making me a sad panda. This should be one of the easiest products for Apple to update.
But it's going to be a redesign. We know that because:
- the current M1 Mini is the same design as the old Intel Mini.
- they are still selling the Intel Mini with more ports and RAM etc than the M1 Mini.
- there is no current headless Mac with the M1 Pro chip.

So there will be at least one redesigned Mini. It's either one form factor that will accomodate both the M2, and the M2 Pro, chips. Or it will be two form factors, probably a slimmer Mini than the current one for just the M2, and a thicker Mini Pro, with a fan, for the M1 Pro chip, with all the extra ports and so on that the Intel Mini has. Also resulting in a discontinuation of the Intel Mini.
