A little back story - I've had every phone since the original on launch day. I always have taken excellent care of my phones and bought speck candyshells. This is the first time I've ever cracked my screen.

I am heartbroken.

My phone had a speck candyshell on it. It crashed to the ground of my work parking garage as I got out of the car. I don't know what to do with myself.

My question for you is, do you think the new iPhone 6 Speck Candyshell had anything to do with this screen break? The new iPhone 6 Candyshell's seem really tight. It's VERY difficult to get the phone in and out of the case which is not like candyshells as I've had them for years. Could the pressure of the candyshell cause more frequent breaks or am I just delusional?

Anybody else going through this difficult time?

While you claim you're not blaming anyone but yourself, in a way you are looking to see if your case can be the scapegoat. I assure you, the case did not contribute to the glass breaking. The concrete was the culprit. It sucks and I realize that, but Speck is definitely not on the hook for this one regardless of the proposed fault in the case being too tight. If anything, the case saved you from having a dented and scraped iPhone. With the new glass that you'll pay out of pocket for, your phone will be back to brand new.

I recommend Apple Care + from here on out.

out of curiosity, does the case have any type of impact absorbtion in it? like a rubber interior? I went to Speck's site and they don't offer a lot in the way of how their cases are made. all it says is "military grade", whatever the hell that means.

is the exterior shell plastic?

Tech21 with their D3O material has great impact absorption. I have the model impact with cover for my 5. And when I do need to replace it and get a 6/6+, definitely getting another one of these cases.

It is all in the physics in the sudden stop and what it lands on. You could drop it again in the same parking lot and it not suffer any damage.

I do not think the case was related to the screen break.

Sorry for your loss.

Refurbished, not new. There is a difference.

Yes...the refurbished device would likely be better made. The new devices run off the assembly line as fast as they can make them, then go through an initial battery of tests. Refurbished units have any faulty parts replaced, then are reassembled and then very thoroughly checked to ensure that they work properly. In the majority of circumstances with electronics, refurbished devices are often held to a higher standard of testing and assembly.

thanks for the advice, looking it up now.

I was using a Magpull case for my 5S. I loved it, but they're not selling 6+ cases yet. I'm using a Pt case now; it feels great in my hands but i'm not sure how great the impact resistance is. It'll do for now.

mine too, but it largely depends on how long the phone has been out. towards the end of a life cycle you'll start to see refurb serials. for sure, any iPhone 6 replaced today would be a new one.

I agree. At this point, it is more likely for people using AC+ to get a new device, rather than a refurbished one, merely based on the timing.
Would be a different matter if the launch happened months past.

Can you still use it? I have many friends who have their screens almost completely cobwebbed by cracks, yet they have kept on using it for months..

When I first got my phone I was searching everywhere for a case. No one had any in stock. I babied the phone like crazy but ended up dropping it on my concrete porch. It fell about a foot face down after hitting the top corner. Luckily it only scuffed the corner and it now sits in an otterbox. I bet next time I order a case when I preorder. I chalk it up as crap happens sometimes. I hate that it now has a defect but it is what is.

I ran a Ballistic case on my S3, 5s and now 6+.

Solid 6 sided drop protection without encasing the phone in a block of rubber. Ghost armor for my screen protection.

no, the glass screen having nothing protecting it and it hitting concrete lol.

I've never understood why people use slip on cases on the back only. They only protect the back which is the strongest part of the phone to begin with.

Time for an otterbox defender or lifeproof ;)

All I can say is I've never been fond of those speck cases. They offer zero protection and they've been known to scratch Apple products. I wouldn't say it was the fault of the case but I don't feel it actually helped prevent the damage either.

Dropped the 6 plus twice yesterday, once it fell about 3 feet onto concrete, facing down. The 2nd time it fell face down onto a metal object. Both times there were no scratches or cracks.

I consider myself lucky and am glad the phone has AppleCare+.

Hey buddy, calm down over there. I wasn't blaming anybody or anyone. Just posting a thread to read people's thoughts. I know it's my fault I broke the screen. Can't you see I'm going through a difficult time?

Sounds to me like you need a few more real life challenges to put things into perspective. It's a phone. Phones break sometimes. Replace it under warranty or buy the necessary parts to fix and move on. The end of your heartbreak.

It's people like you who put a bad name to Apple fans. If you can't sense the comedic and sarcastic tones in my original post then I'm sorry.

i had the ballistic for my 5 and really liked it, but it was pretty bulky. Once i saw the magpull case on someone else's i bought it instead. the magpull offers the same level of protection as the ballisitc, but is thinner and lighter.

By the way, it would be totally unethical for you to buy a Squaeretrade warranty with ADH protection (you have 30 days after the original purchase to buy a plan) then submit a claim to them next week. So please do not even consider this option. In the end, karma would hunt you down and soon thereafter your phone will be stolen or lost.

You are delusional if you are thinking the speck case had anything to do with your screen shattering.

Be nice, it was just a question.

Personally, I think Apple phones KNOW when they have AppleCare. The ones with it don't break, the ones without....

Honestly, I really couldn't. You just sounded whiney since you repeated the same (supposedly sarcastic, now) sentiment in a reply comment a page later.

I guess MY comedic/sarcastic tone was lost on you then.. ;)
