Which users? I have a hard time believing it’s the same people. I’m more inclined to think it’s just the dynamic of lumping people who disagree with you together.

I don't have a list. And there was nothing to disagree about.

Just remembering the many comments from posters in early 2025 when general public awareness of AI was somewhat new, who said they'd immediately turn AI off as soon as Apple downloads it on their phone, in any story relating to Apple's AI effort.

And now, it appears many people here are slagging Apple for being late with AI.

What's interesting is there already was a very basic AI-ish feature in iPhone's Photos app that allowed one to search for particular subject matter with multiple criteria. For example: red cars, bridges, people with dogs, planes, people with hats, bicycles, lakes, white ships, etc that works pretty well. As a photographer, that became very useful for me having around 30,000 photos in my iPhone Photos app.

I agree with you here.
This is the sort of feature I do love and want from AI systems.

We were supposed to get the Apple Intelligence version of Siri in iOS 26.4, but Apple is still having problems with development. Siri isn't yet operating as expected, and it's not ready to launch.
This is completely false, and was entirely made up by the rumor mill. Apple never promised anything for 26.4.

They literally JUST finished a deal with Google for Gemini. Obviously it will take at least half a year to fully integrate.

Aside from a major stability overhaul, I also wish for a Liquid Glass remake. Or just a completely new UI style.
Alan Dye's exit and Stephen Lemay's promotion gives me hope.

Other than that I really do not need any new features right now (Siri has been turned off since the 4S). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Apple is partnering with Google and plans to use a custom AI model built in collaboration with Google's Gemini team for some of the new ‌Siri‌ features, including the ‌Siri‌ chatbot functionality that's coming."

Shades of Borders Books allowing Amazon to fulfill their book orders, and drive themselves out of existence. This is not going to end well for Apple...

Not to worry... many here said way back in early 2025 they would *immediately* turn off Apple's AI after it was downloaded on their devices.

And now the same people are complaining that it's not ready.

Why are so sure it's the "same people"? I'm one of those people who turned it off and will keep it off.

I don't care when or if it comes out, because it'll still be off.

I would love to ask Siri to add my “next week work schedule” to my work calendar from my email automatically.

Well I certainly did that, even uninstalling Sequoia when the [bleep] AI function kept turning itself on. I also deliberately bought an A16 iPad as it is immune to AI.

The real issue is that Apple promised far more AI than it actually delivered. That's what has gotten them into trouble. Now they have basically admitted they can't do it at all and have hired it out.

This is in the news too, Zuckerberg is having his own troubles in the field.

Apparently throwing billions at the problem wasn't the right answer.

None of that makes me want to upgrade from 18.

If I can turn off all of liquid glass, I will update for security patches, otherwise I will just stay on 18.
You can turn off Liquid Glass. Just like you have been able to disable all the transparency since iOS 7. In Display settings, set Liquid Glass to Tinted. In Accessibility/Display & Text Size, turn on Reduce Transparency. Also turn off Motion in Accessibility. No more Liquid Glass. The improvements with the Photos app and managing your photos is worth dumping iOS 18.

I seem to remember Apple stating that beginning with iOS26 and Tahoe, they were going to focus on QOS and stability instead of pushing out new operating systems that are not at all ready for release.

I remember back when for a short period of time Siri could search your photos. That’s what I want to come back, and it had nothing to do with artificial intelligence.
That was AI. Apple called it Machine Learning back then. It used a different AI type thank the LLM that chatbots use but it was an AI. I like the feature and use it in Photos fairly frequently. I would never think to ask Siri for that as Siri couldn’t do anything with the photos once they were found.

Imagine if Apple had relied on Google for things like web search or maps. That would have been crazy.

"rumors linked to Apple's upcoming tabletop robot suggest that the company might introduce a version of ‌Siri‌ that's more animated, similar to the Mac Finder logo. That more animated version of ‌Siri‌ could also come to the iPhone and ‌iPad‌."

We don't need Siri to become a cute animated face like Clippy

Oh, okay. But I have many thousands of photos, so I would be happy if Siri just located the photos. Usually that’s all I need. I don’t often adjust them. I want Siri to be able to find them again. After she finds them, if I don’t like them as they are, I will edit them for myself. I’m not usually sending them on.

Are you searching with Siri or in Photos? I wasn't aware the Siri could search your photos library. That always seemed to just be a thing you do inside of the Photos app.

No, for a brief period of time you were able to tell Siri to find a certain picture either by what it was or by date. They even demonstrated it on one of the WWDC programs. And then suddenly it was gone. There was another feature that I Liked also, where you could add something to an existing note. Gone.

Reading about all that AI stuff that’s coming has me wondering: what is the world record for the biggest grain of salt?
