Ugh. I like Windows 7, but I just don't see how Microsoft thinks they are going to compete with the iPhone by following the same model. I already have an iPhone, but I don't like many of the above directions Apple has taken the platform.

If Microsoft is just going to offer more of the same, what incentive would I have to switch?

Although, I do like the 5 app limit per developer in the marketplace. I think that would prevent spam and encourage the production of quality applications. It would even be reasonable to allow additional submissions for a developer based on the success of their current apps on the marketplace.

All this is rather moot though isn't it? How does what happened in the circumstantial past relate to anything presently, besides finding ways to disagree with each other over irrelevancies?
I dunno. Ask they fanboys that are some how trumpeting this as a big 'win' for Apple. You'd never know it by looking at the site today, but MR wasn't always populated by such a large segment of flag waivers salivating over Steve's every breath.

So your IBM/Intel examples are particularly inappropriate.
No, it's no inappropriate at all. Like I said, IBM used to be 'the enemy' until they turned into a business partner. Intel used to be 'the enemy' until they turned into a business partner. MS is a bit of a paradox because they've been both 'the enemy' and a valuable business partner for a long time. The fanboys love the rivalries and the CEOs do to because it helps generate an emotional attachment to a company that just wants your money but thankfully when it comes down to doing business they put the circus to bed and do what's best for their company.

Why is it a big deal if 10% of MS employees are using iPhones but it's not a big deal when Apple relies on products from MS? Both situations are complete non-issues, IMO.

Yet I expect pro-Apple commentators on here, this is MACRumors, not WindowsRumors. If you want impartiality go to Engadget or one of the other sites that claims to be impartial. Don't go to a fan site for Apple and expect to meet non-Apple fans. That's tantamount to going to a Klan rally and expecting to meet an African-American Klansman.

As for your examples re: Intel/IBM, it was in the past, things change. It's presently irrelevant and your citing circumstantial examples that don't apply to anything. Why are you baiting Apple proponents into ludicrous arguments? You're a Demi-God, which means you paid MacRumors financial support. You seem to have a distaste for the company, so I'm a bit perplexed...

also, please refrain from the term "fanboy". It serves no purpose other than to rile up individuals on an Apple related site to bait them into discourse. There are "fanboy's" on both sides of the arguments, so please, enough with the third grade "name calling".

Further, I'm not going to bother replying as it will simply keep going in circles as most discussions that trail off into MS versus Apple tend to do. It's been going on for years and it's tired, I have better things to do. Good night. :)

He'll probably be sticking with his WinMo 6.5 through all of his pointless shilling, ranting, and backpedalling - exhibiting characteristic traits of a true Windows Luddite and rambling curmudgeon.

Apparently he's going to have to if he wants copy/paste. ;)

What amazes me is Microsoft is clearly saying "F you" to the business drones who have inexplicably held Windows Mobile aloft for years by going with a mobile OS clearly targeted to the hipster crowd who wants a lot of animation and Xboxcity in their mobile device. The iPhone will now have more business appeal than Microsoft's devices. Go figure.

And somehow Microsoft thinks they can become the youth niche in mobile computing. Because nothing says "cool" like Windows Phone 7 Series...from Microsoft. (TM)

Good luck, Mr. Ballmer and J "Quit Calling Me James, I LEGALLY CHANGED MY NAME TO A LETTER!" Allard.

Um, have you read the Engadget comments section lately? The shrieking Redmond Horde has made it their new nest of anti-Apple discontent.

Does Jobs whine like a little bitch when he sees an employee using Office instead of iWork?

No. Ballmer needs to grow a pair.

Oh, the irony. :p

So true. One would imagine that the outcomes of MS's lame endeavors to reach the 'hip crowd' via features such as 'The Social' and 'Squirting,' would have been enough to lead them to realize that it ain't easy picking up young chicks, for free, when you're laiden with hair plugs, wrinkled skin, and are lacking in style, taste, and finesse.

'Xboxcicity' (hilarious term) will win 'em over for sure.

Going for the 'hipster' demographic, this late in the game, seems like a typical, yet hardly a logical plan - especially since they've up until now, touted their 'business oriented' mindset in comparison to 'the competition's.'

Trail chasing is their forte, but they are way too slow at it.

Looking forward to the Zune-Pad.

Hello everybody, my name is LagunaSol.

I love to defend Apple without fail. Even what it involves (frequent) hypocrisy between threads. And when somebody (frequently) tears my entire (lousy) argument to shreds, I ignore them and pretend like it never happened. I don't realize that behind the ignore list, im the laughing stock of a forum.

My HERO!!

In this economy, I'm betting "a lot"

Indubitably. And sickeningly obvious about it too.

Of course every Apple employee is using an iPhone, Apple gave them out at launch.

Priceless!

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when they confiscate them all at Microsoft and toss them into incinerators.

Yeah, need we say more?

Yes, I must say Steve Jobs has been exhibiting Sarah Palin behavior AND intelligence as of late re: Blu-ray and flash.

Hey? Anyone check his palm at the last keynote?

:apple:

Are you saying that it shouldn't be possible to have an intelligent, logical discussion on MR? It is possible to have a fan site w/o everyone being a fanboy wearing blinders, you know. ;)

Why are you baiting Apple proponents into ludicrous arguments? You're a Demi-God, which means you paid MacRumors financial support. You seem to have a distaste for the company, so I'm a bit perplexed...
I have no distaste for Apple, just the fanboys that believe Apple is perfect and take every opportunity to pointlessly disparage other companies in an attempt to justify some sort of misguided allegiance to their global corporation of choice. Is it hard for you to comprehend that someone can like Apple's products and like the MR community w/o thinking either one is perfect and subject to worship? My preference is to use Apple hardware and Apple software but when Apple doesn't meet my needs I go else where. I'm not emotionally attached to my Mac, or to Apple as a company, anymore than I'm emotionally attached to my hammer or my bike. They are all tools that serve a purpose. I will admit though I was a little bummed when my not quite 8yr old G4 tower died on me last year. I was hopping to retire that guy into use a file server or something instead of sending him to the recycling plant.

Of course there are people that act like fanboys all over the place and I don't care for any of it. Mac v PC, Avid v FCP, Canon v Nikon, Red v Sony, Ford v Chevy, Digital v Film... it's all a waste of time, IMO.

Further, I'm not going to bother replying as it will simply keep going in circles as most discussions that trail off into MS versus Apple tend to do. It's been going on for years and it's tired, I have better things to do. Good night. :)
I'm not talking about MS v Apple so I don't know why you keep bringing it up.

Just as long as he doesn't start exhibiting Barrack Obama behavior.I would say intelligence, but he doesn't have any...since you've turned this political. ;)

Wow... Maybe the 10% is using it for "studies". Then Microsoft will copy the iPhone, but fix all the things people hate! Then everyone buys that thinking it's the best thing in the world.
