No worries, now they can just upgrade to a Windows Mobile Phone 7 Professional Edition 2011 device and they'll be good to go. Who would miss an iPhone after using that beautiful new OS?

another filler story to get in the advertising $$$

something i have absolutely nothing against, and in fact appreciate very much as it allows arn to actually make this site exist.

i mean... seriously? at this point you're bitching about MACRUMORS getting advertising dollars for a story you don't deem worthy?

who cares indeed?

luckily, we'll never have to hear from you again... as if you have any kind of ethical standpoint, you'll refuse to come back to such a time-wasting site. ciao! don't let the door hit you on the way out! :D

By Contrast NOBODY at Apple Uses a Zune

MS is a bloated, dull, and slow company.

They imitate while others innovate.

They are the very epitome of an empire in decline.

:D

"Maybe once a year I'm in a meeting with Steve Ballmer," said this employee. "It doesn't matter who's calling, I'm not answering my phone."

It shouldn't matter even if it's your parole officer calling - if you are in a meeting with anyone, the phone should stay in your pocket. :p

I work on the a Microsoft contract and our Technical Project Manager (Blue Badge Full time Microsoft Employee) he has and iPhone and most of us on the contract team do. Its funny when a text goes off we all race for out phones.

I use all Apple products at home.

Really its not that we love apple its we are technology Junkies.

That's because Windows Mobile sucks out loud. I had the T-Mobile Dash and Wing (HTC Exalibur and Wing, respectivly) before I got my first gen iphone, and the experience RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX was slow. It would take long pauses whenever I tried to interact with the OS, and the Phone/Text portion of the OS was never given any real priority, as in the notifications would lag, so i'd sometimes miss calls because the OS wouldn't respond to my button/screen presses, so I sold em.

I really hope WinMo 7 returns MSs original allure, for all those people who don't want/can't afford/don't understand iPhones (a couple of my buddies :D) because the OS is great from an information-whore perspective. Loved the homescreen.

This is idiotic, who cares what kind of phone they're using? The Win7 phone isn't even out yet. Maybe when that comes out...

NEWSFLASH--10% of Apple employees use Microsoft Office.

Who cares. Also, if you're in a meeting with the CEO, there is no way in hell you'd answer your phone anyway.

Oh man, it HAS to be more than that.

"although company executives have stated that the move was a cost-cutting measure rather than an attempt to clamp down on employe usage of devices from Microsoft's competitors."

oh, THAT'S what it was. COST-CUTTING. whew, mystery solved.

because requiring only windows mobile devices is... cheaper. somehow.

Well sure, you go from 100% of folks getting the money to only maybe 15% of folks getting it. the real joke is that the bosses might actually think that such a move is going to make anyone change phones

Good luck on that one, they've been "trolling" proudly since 2003

This really is not news, must be a slow news week.
Microsoft employees are not bound to only using Microsoft products, i betcha some of them even have Wii's and Playstations as well.

My teacher used to work for Microsoft as part of network security. She said that Microsoft "strongly dont recommend" using a competitors product.

When she was caught using a Palm phone, and essentially got a slap on the wrist. She said she came in the next day with her iBook showing it off to everybody.

I'd be more interested to know how many Microsoft employees use Macs.

I don't know about employees but I thought it a real hoot that the company that made the "Laptop Hunter" ads is one of the biggest and proudest all Mac ad shops around. I think they were even featurespd on Apple's site at one point

off topic: Bill Gates ban his children from getting any apple product (including iPod touch and iPhones), it must be tuff for them lol.

They buy Mac he writes them out of the will huh. 5 gets you 10 that they are just hiding their stuff from Daddy

I always wondered if Amstrad always used Amstrad products in their offices ;)

Come to think of it...............

I hope no company connected with Apple are using PC's in their business :D

Is it really news. Just because you work for a certain company don't mean you will use the products. I seen people who work for apple retail actually uses Window PC at home. So what is the big deal???

do these guys really think we believe them when they say this stuff, or is it just a reflex action to make up ridiculous motivations rather than be honest for once?

Why wouldn't that be considered cost cutting? Do you think Microsoft pays themselves full retail price when they buy a Windows Mobile device? And let's be realistic, it's certainly in their corporate interest to have more people using Windows Mobile devices. Not offering to pay for products from the competition seems reasonable to me. That doesn't seem like clamping down or being anticompetitive.

McDonald's employees receive discounts or free food from their own restaurants. You surely wouldn't expect McDonald's corporate office to offer their employees discounts for Burger King as well. It doesn't mean the guy's not free to go buy a Whopper for lunch if he wants, just that McDonald's won't be paying for it.

Apple is still in the process of switching over the mobile Point of Sale units in their stores from Windows Mobile devices to iPod Touch base devices.

Lethal

At least Microsoft allow employees to connect to their work email. In my office iPhones are banned from the corporate network, you have to buy a blackberry otherwise.

THIS is news?

So what? Nothing really worth reporting. Was the written solely because the uninformed may find it surprising? As another poster said, MS Office is widely used at Apple (more than 10% for sure) because, well... iWork sucks in comparison.
