I don’t think under-display camera is coming at all, let alone 2027. But propose it does, then we are expecting 24 Mpix/6 element lens upgrades? lol… you can’t have both, they will be hamstrung by the display and unable to provide regular innovations.

As a person who prefers smaller iPhones, the size of the is about as big as I prefer to go. So I’m not pleased that the phones are going to keep getting bigger, with the only other option being the forthcoming SE, which does not interest me.
Same, but for me it’s lifestyle and usage. I’m older and wfh so if I’m not at my desk I’m on my iPad. I like being able to stick the 8 in any pocket. my previous phones were the SE and 5. I do plan to get the 16 at some point in the near future, since it’ll be a better option for traveling, and the camera will be a lot better. I pay outright as my tap (text only) plan is cheap and their incentives would end up changing That. Other than the SE dying just out of warranty, I’ve had my phones for 4-5 years.

I have tried multiple style cases with the 13 and now 15 Plus and none have helped with the edges digging into my hand. I have not tried a leather case so that may be an option to check out, thank you. Do you have a brand of leather case that you would recommend?
the Apple clear case does not dig into your hands. it's not sharp at all.
most silicon ones are spongy.

what have you been using?

i had an underscreen Oppo and the selfie cam was dreadful. wouldnt be good for recognition either.

it would require very specialized hardware to integrate lens and LEDs maybe. and good software.

strange how even Android phones dont use it now.

Another i used had a popup cam. The worked quite well for a no notch design. doubtful Apple would go that route

1. Under-Display Face ID
iPhone 17 Pro & iPhone 17 Pro Max
The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be the first ‌iPhone‌ to feature under-panel Face ID technology. The only external indication of the under-display ‌Face ID‌ technology will likely be a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. This will probably be Apple's last premium model to include a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. Apple is then expected adopt under-display cameras in 2027's "Pro" ‌iPhone‌ models for a true "all-screen" appearance.
Seems like a reason not to get the 17 to me, might as well get the 16 and use it till 2027+ and then get a phone that's finished with notch iterations.

Got to love the psychological games these wait for the next XYZ product as it will have XYZ and will be worth it.

You honestly think and feel that Tim and Co. will give you everything on that list for the next one, get real, anyone who is anyone who has been using Apple products knows by now that Apple is always about the trickle of features which is referred in marketing as refinements.

I am upgrading two iPhone 12 P, one 13 PM and one 13 mini with the 16 Pro, looking forward to AOD, ProMotion, brighter screen, improved cameras, USB-C, small design changes, Action button, Camera button and increased battery and RAM.

If you are on iPhone 15 P/PM this is not an upgrade cycle for you even probably not for 14 P/PM users.

Not sure what all the complaints are about. My next upgrade may probably be iPhone 18 or 20. Friday the 20th Sep cannot come here soon enough.

I was waiting for the 16 for the last 18 months now. I'm pretty much out of storage on my 11 Pro. But I've learned to live with it. The experience isn't great (I had to redownload an app to order supper tonight) but image quality and speed are fine for me. Although I did learn there's 5G service in my area and my mom's 12 (or 13) gets almost 10X as much download speed than I do.

I'm really considering the 16 Pro but I don't need it. I do want to see how the finishes match with the Apple Watches. I've been wanting a stainless steel Apple Watch, now I guess it'll be titanium. But I think I'd like them to match. I can't tell if it'll match with natural or white.

Yearly upgrades is consumerism out of control.

These phones are built to last much longer. Batteries no longer die after two years as they used to.

But those who complain there isnt enough new have been conditioned to lusting after the latest whatever but cant justify the cost to do it. Trade your old if you are desperate to do it. I worked with a guy who did that every year. He always then had the latest. He lost a bit but for him it was worth it.

Apple (under Jobs) learnt from the 80/90s Sony who trickled just enough new features every release. Sometimes it was years, sometimes months. But just enough of the new to entice upgraders. If you sat out one round, maybe next time they would get you to upgrade.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a first gen Apple modem, at least not until a few months go by and a bunch of online testing shows no downgrades in performance. I would probably wait for a second gen.
My thoughts exactly. I thought about upgrading my 12 this year to get the newer Qualcomm cell radio. Possibly that would eliminate some local dropouts. But my 12 is still fine otherwise. $1K+ to upgrade could be spent on quite a few other things….

what have you been using?
I used the Apple silicone case for about the last 10 months, now using a spigen ultra hybrid. They both result in the edges of the phone digging into my palm and fingers. I haven’t found a case yet to recreate the rounded sides unfortunately.

How tight are you gripping that phone?

The silicon cases are soft and I have not heard of one person who has issues holding them...

Maybe you need a different brand of phone?

MIPA = Make iPhone Pocketable Again

I will continue using my iPhone 8 until it no longer works, or Apple releases an iPhone that fits in the pocket.

I have read a lot of people complain about it on here, Apple forum and on Reddit so I know it’s not just me.

Sadly it seems most of the main Android players in the US have switched to flat sides as well for now otherwise that would be an option.

Similar to auto manufacturers and other established products, a little here and there while the consumer salivates. I used to upgrade annually with the trade-in program, however the last few years I have been holding out longer just because I prefer more things accumulated over the years then jump in.

Best to visit an Apple Store to find out.

As much as I'd like to wait, I'm too far back to tinker with Apple AI and I just want to ditch the lighting port for good 😩
