I’m confused. If both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were to get under the display Face ID, why would only the Pro Max get a smaller Dynamic Island?
Me too. But I may wait for the 18 if it gets rid of all the cutouts and holes on the screen. My 13PM battery is still at 100% so it has many years of service left.As someone with a 13 Pro Max, wasn't enticed with 14 or 15 and this convinced me to wait for 17.
I heard the iPhone XX Pro would be out soon after the 19. Might wait for the big one.Might as well wait for the 19 Pro at this point. Redesigns tend to have bugs and they get fixed on the ‘S’ 🤣
Figures. We'd be hearing about this by now. Guess 16 is a safe buy.Unlikely. Apple has to milk this for a bit longer.
Don't know, but the author of the piece suggests one reason to wait until next year is Under-Display Face ID for both 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max and then goes on to tell us only the Pro Max is getting a smaller dynamic island, which doesn't make sense.I though Ross Young or someone else said that under-display Face ID was delayed until the iPhone 18?
If it happens and when it may, I don't know... but the author is suggesting when Face ID goes hidden under the display what will remain will be a punch-hole for the front-facing camera (just a small circle; no pill shaped island) and then whenever the tech arrives to satisfactorily put the front-facing camera under the display then there will be not so much as a punch-hole visible—just a display with Face ID and the front-facing camera hidden beneath it, and a visible earpiece speaker along the top bezel.I must have missed something… If faceID moves under display (and even more when front camera as well), will Apple keep Dynamic Island ?
They will continue to give the pro models additional camera features (and three cameras), more RAM and a slightly faster "pro" chip and probably bigger displays and titanium chassis. Apple's North Star is money, so they'll not get rid of the pro phones, but they should consider doing so.I’m a 15 pro user here, the high refresh screen is the main reason why I’m happy with my purchase over the standard model. If the 17 onwards has it too, I’ll gladly revert back to the cheaper models for my next upgrade.
It does make me wonder where they will look to differentiate the pro lineup. Even now, standard wide camera is getting good enough with high resolution to diminish the value of the zoom lens. I think we will start to see Apple intelligence features locked behind the pro lineup. With Apple and software, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do this at times even where the base model could run the compute
Next year might bring an update to Dynamic Island, but it isn’t expected to be full under-screen technology.Figures. We'd be hearing about this by now. Guess 16 is a safe buy.
Maybe you should try a case, a nice leather case. Have been doing that for 15 years and the edges whichever shape/form never bothered meAt this point for me, the features/specs aren't that big of a deal anymore, its the physical design that is the problem. I'm trying to hold out for the rounded sides to come back. I will probably pass on the 17 series also due to the flat sides with its sharp corners as I'm guessing they will still be there next year. The current phones are so uncomfortable to hold, I see no reason to get a new phone if that problem still exists. I currently have a 15 Plus and the "slightly" curved sides aren't an improvement over my previous 13, they need to curve the sides a lot more.
They also need to get the weight down on the Pro models.
I hear that. I don't' really mind it the way it is. I wouldn't mind it getting smaller either, but I think I'll upgrade from my 14PM.Next year might bring an update to Dynamic Island, but it isn’t expected to be full under-screen technology.
And here we are on pre-order day and I’m typing this on my 13PM and I have no reason to get a 16PM and with the rumored updates to the 17PM, that doesn’t excite me either… time for a foldable! I’d give up my iPad for that one too. What Huawei announced this week is quite coolAs someone with a 13 Pro Max, wasn't enticed with 14 or 15 and this convinced me to wait for 17. I'll just treat myself to a new battery some point later this year since I'm at 84% battery health.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a first gen Apple modem, at least not until a few months go by and a bunch of online testing shows no downgrades in performance. I would probably wait for a second gen.Last time Apple did in house modem didn’t go so well. 1st gen of that is not a good sell.
I’m sure Apple is working on a new mini to satisfy all of the 13 mini owners who keep saying they won’t upgrade until they do. Now I could be wrong and a new mini could be in the works, but I usually try to live in the real world or at least the real world according to Tim when it comes to Apple products that may or may not be in the pipeline.I'll stay on my 13 mini until Apple offers smaller phones again.
Here is order number sir # W1234565. Haha.Ok! I will try to skip a year for the first time since iPhone was introduced! I know I can do it!
iPhone as a sheet of glass. Haha. $1999Wait for 18 Pro for re design
Didn't iPhone 12 have an Apple designed 5G model? That thing guzzles power like there is no tomorrow. A single 10,000 mAH power bank plus the phone's battery is insufficient for the entire day if you use it for getting around an unfamiliar city.I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a first gen Apple modem, at least not until a few months go by and a bunch of online testing shows no downgrades in performance. I would probably wait for a second gen.
Maybe they can resurrect that piezoelectric tech Sony was using that makes the screen a speaker. If it happens and when it may, I don't know... but the author is suggesting when Face ID goes hidden under the display what will remain will be a punch-hole for the front-facing camera (just a small circle; no pill shaped island) and then whenever the tech arrives to satisfactorily put the front-facing camera under the display then there will be not so much as a punch-hole visible—just a display with Face ID and the front-facing camera hidden beneath it, and a visible earpiece speaker along the top bezel.
An entry level Mac isn't a Pro device. Apples and oranges comparison.17 Pro and Pro Max rumored to have 12GB RAM.... um, would they still make 8GB RAM on entry level Macs? LOL
