Agreed. Samsung had facial recognition before Apple had faceID, but both are different. FaceID doesn't work the same way.
Yep, they're not in the same league. Samsung's face recognition is a toy and even Samsung itself is reserving more crucial authentication scenarios to fingerprint or iris unlock.

I’m not knocking it. It’s just a different philosophy. Samsung comes out with a bunch of options so it’s customers can use whatever they want. I have to admit I like their location based and device based (smartwatch) security.

It's already been on the news. I believe it was CNN. So, I doubt it's BS.
LOL...

So CNN is the gold standard of truth? The fact CNN ran the story confirms it’s false.

They at least were not rigorous in finding the truth.

CNN: Did you ever use passcode unlock or scan multiple faces? Can you scan your face and unlock it with your son for us right now?
Mother: No.
CNN: Works for us!

With all due respect, I can't take anyone seriously who just joined a mac forum last Sunday to talk about how great the note 8 is in everyone one of their posts, and has had no inquiry about anything mac related.

Not sure if you are talking about me? But I've owned a Note 8, not any more. I now own iPhone 8 plus, but owned every generation of iPhone except the 5C and the X. I also own 3 MACs with two PCs, 2 iPads, and two Apple watches. So, I am not sure what this has to do with what we are discussing?

Nope, and why on earth would Apple make a phone like that. Wishful thinking on your part.

What? Why wouldn't they? It's basically the standard iPhone 8 with a slightly higher resolution and OLED instead of LCD display. Oh I know, because they wouldn't be able to utterly price gouge the living s*** out of their customers.

You may enjoy spending £1k on an iPhone but it's not worth that much to me. I wouldn't pay more than £800 for it.
Apple isn't so far ahead anymore that they can charge outrageous premiums for comparable devices. This is the Apple of the 90's all over again, pushing to see how far they can go. Convoluted, overpriced, lazy.
I should add, I do love my Apple products. But this is Tim Cook's Apple, the only interesting thing I've seen from him is the AirPods.

Apple and apologists could positive spin it as a 'family emergency access' feature. ;)

We know that other companies will adopt the system (just like the "oops, we forgot the headphone jack"), so I wouldn't really be too driven in that regard.

Don't worry about the response to that post. The OP is just jealous of apple and that his favorite company is a runner-up on a good day.;)

So how many X’s did they sell? With security if 1 in 1 million we should see a few legitimate stories like this.

Since faceID can be spoofed by similarities, how do we know all these videos are not "kids are used as look-a-likse just to show it how easy it can be done" ? That'll get a good 1,0000 views and acceptable in no-time.. while at the same time killing yourself laughing over the fact none of these issue are real.

So what some are saying is all your relatives that might look like you could possibly get access to your devices?
How is that 1 in a million chances like Apple tried selling us during their keynote?
There's tons of videos with people that look similar but are not even related getting access to their iphone X.
And then offcourse when it comes to identical twins you can forget about any security there. They have different fingerprints but not different looking faces.
Again that's 1 in a millions chances of letting the wrong person in?
Apple is putting out security that's unreliable and people that are not supposed to gain access could get in a phone and banking apps, and go shopping using apple pay cards and everything else?
Apple is planning on phasing out touch ID fingerprint technology that is more reliable, faster and way more secure for this nonsense?
That's nuts.

How so? I think its much easier. Thats why I dont like it.

All you have to do is not look at your phone and it won’t unlock. Obviously you’ll have to decide between personal safety or phone protection if we’re talking “by force”. But how many times have you been forced to use your fingerprint?

What if you don’t know if you’re looking at the phone or not. It works in the dark. You have much less control over your 1 face and someone else holding up the phone than your 10 fingers.

Really?
You cant use "force" to bring the iPhone up to their face?
It requires attention to unlock. You can't force someone to stare at the camera just by force.

For example, you can unlock your girlfriends iPhone7 just because you are heavier and stronger, but if she got iPhone X, you'll need a knife or something like that.

[doublepost=1511444360][/doublepost]There is more: you can unlock your GF's iPhone 7 while she is asleep, but you can't do that with iPhone X

This whole conversation is somewhat silly. People who are really worried about whether it’s easier to be forced to touch or forced to stare at the phone - people who think that difference is going to somehow be important in their life - should just use a strong passcode and turn off biometrics.
