It was unluckily, but I do believe the trade-offs were worth it in terms of design. Although with the current prices, this is a hot debated issue. The beginning of the end as far as upgrading the internals. The 2012 model before it with cd drive and optional matt screen was a much more versatile machine. And the price was much better too.
My answer is: when it no longer works well for your needs.I'm wondering when I should upgrade from my 2018 512gb Intel MBP15
To be honest, I don't recall the exact month I got my 13" that year but, it was shortly before I became a MR member, which was September. Your memory may be better than mine on this.didn't they get announced at the same time, assuming you mean the mid 2012 13" mbp?
I remember getting mine on day 1 and still have it in use.
The experience on Intels integrated GPU's often caused stutters frame drops and more, if you read an early review of the Retinas it was always pointed out and faded as they got stronger. To actually have a smooth experience (even on the 2015) you had to enable the dedicated graphics to work all the time.I still remember people on this forum swearing up and down that Apple would *never* release a retina screen on any laptop or desktop because “graphics cards will never be powerful enough to drive those displays”.
These things came out only a few years later.
Ok Tim Cook, you can log out nowGolden era! Such an iconic product. Most advanced 💻
When Apple announced this MacBook Pro. I couldn’t afford it however the retina screen display was stunning. This was a well-developed, structured, and industry-leading engineered product, Apple had worked on.
When it came out ten years ago and I was 14 that would probably be my exact post.Ok Tim Cook, you can log out now
Me too. It’s a bit slow now but the design is still sublime.I’m glad I was able to experience it at the tail end (Early 2015, Broadwell here) before the disastrous 2016 to 2019 models. Sadly, Apple will drop support starting with Ventura. But it still works and I’ve yet to upgrade it from Catalina.
I’m hoping to collect more Intel models as collectors items. Would love to get a 2012 and load it up with Lion.

It doesn’t get Ventura support though so that’s a perfect excuse to get the new airStill have my mid-2014 version of this. ALMOST a shame it still runs flawlessly because I’m eyeing the new Air…
