Congrats for forgetting all innovations in chip technology. Is this still a computer news site?

IMO faster computing is sort of a given with each product refresh.

Are you 10 years old by any chance?

My MacBook is almost 10 years old....but no, I'm just a Mac user that doesn't feel the need to take a day off of work to wait for the FedEx delivery and watch unboxing videos every time a new product with more and more useless features comes out.

Damn, time flies!
I remember 10 years ago I had been following the rumors of the iPhone and nobody knew what it would look like or what it would do, with most people creating mockups containing a bunch of buttons and the iPod wheel since that was normal at the time.
To finally see it shown off was mind blowing!
I remember people even thinking it was so cool that you could scroll up and down the screen by just dragging your finger.
Smartphones today owe their entire existence to the iPhone and I'm proud to be an iPhone fanboy who has used the superior iPhone since the days when Android users were still using cheap plastic flip phones.

Happy 10th birthday iPhone! :apple:

It was a major update, but to say that was the biggest update we'll ever see or have EVER seen is crazy...
No other iPhone have brought so many new, and so big features to the table. This is not so strange really, because you can only add say, a front camera, once to a phone. When you have it, then you have it. And once you have it then all you can do is iterate on it.

The only uniquely new feature of the iPhone 7 is water proofing. Dual cameras in the 7+, stereo speakers, the solid-state home button; those and all the other changes are merely iterating and improving on what is already there.

Not knocking, btw; improving stuff is great! We all love better everything. However, when it comes to bringing new new, the iPhone 4 stands out above all thus far. It is going to be really hard to top.

Looking at that first picture of the side by side to the 7 comparison, I'm reminded of how much I really miss how compact the iPhone used to be. I have an SE, but even that's too big for me. Man I loved that first iPhone, size shape and feel. The only imperfection was that plastic bit on the bottom backside.

Last time I checked anyone can post here, regardless of their opinion.

That wasn't my question, thanks. I realize you feel personally attacked since, looking at your posts, they're all negative, too, but... yeah. You don't have to feel the need to respond.

Ironically, Jobs did not let his own kids use the iPad when it first came out. He also forbade the use of any technology at the dinner table.

He was like a drug dealer who pushed to everyone else, but protected his own children from the very products he sold.

There's a lesson somewhere in there for other parents.

Validated Source/citation for this please?

All Keynotes from this point forward should be CGI Steve Jobs - like they did Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One,

Woz is a lovable dinosaur that hasn't worked on any product since his universal remote control in the 80s. Hardware engineering has changed in massive ways...

Yeah that was the point of the rest of my post. In this hypothetical, since he hasn't been a working engineer for decades, he wouldn't be of value as an engineer. Since he's spent the time instead becoming more of an enthusiast of technology in general and the direction of it, he might actually provide Apple with more forward-thinking vision than they have on hand currently, which gauging by their product line appears to be next to none.

As well, attempts to distance himself or not, returning to a company you started in an advisory role brings a level of connectedness and dedication like a parent reconnecting with an estranged child. I've done it, and seen it, and your best effort comes out when you get that rare second chance. ...Jobs did it as well.

Not to mention, the PR opportunity.

I wasn't actually serious when I posted that, but now that I think of it...

I hate that Apple tries to release everything all at once.

Me too... I really miss the early year announcements, quickly followed by the Developers Conference announcements and then the fall... for several years in a row it was a non-stop Apple fest. Now it seems like we're always waiting for something. And don't get me wrong... I love apple products, but I also loved being blown away from time to time.

Looking back at it, it was a game changing announcement. At the time it was a gimmicky device. I bought one on a whim the day after launch. 2gb I think. I was amazed that I had the REAL internet in my pocket. But it could not yet replace a blackberry for productivity. It wasn't until iPhone 4 that I came back.

Looking at the yearly major feature list. I really don't see what was so "revolution" or "innovated" lots of forum members claiming the older iPhone used to be. Apple has been doing what they've always been doing. Making incremental updates and focus on user experience. The only differences are there are more companies developing new features than ever, and people now compares iPhone against every phone makers out there.

Original iPhone was revolutionary to devices for the time. It's since been an evolution.

There was a time when Apple would release a brand new product that would create a brand new market. People are eager for something brand new like a TV or a Car or a Brain.

"Only 1 port type, non-upgradable, and a weaker battery than last year's MacBook... Are you getting it?"

*crowd erupts*

This is not the new iphone, its the new MacBook Pro!

Just curious... from looking at the history of your posts, it appears you're only on MacRumors to complain about Apple. Are you just trolling? Looking for attention? What is it that brings you here to speak nothing but negative things?

Hedwigg just called this guy out!

I do remember being in awe at the iPhone introduction. Haven't felt that way about a single electronic device introduced since.

"Splash and water resistant", not, "waterproofing". Two different things, as in: "hover board" and "self-balancing scooter".

Wow 10 years already!! I was in high school at that time and had a Motorola Razr. When I saw the iPhone I was so blown away because it looked so ahead of it's time especially compared to my phone! Here's to another 10 years of the iPhone which, in my opinion, is still the best smart phone on the market. :)

“So, your kids must love the iPad?” I asked Mr. Jobs, trying to change the subject. The company’s first tablet was just hitting the shelves.

“They haven’t used it,” he told me. “We limit how much technology our kids use at home.”

I’m sure I responded with a gasp and dumbfounded silence. I had imagined the Jobs’s household was like a nerd’s paradise: that the walls were giant touch screens, the dining table was made from tiles of iPads and that iPods were handed out to guests like chocolates on a pillow.

Nope, Mr. Jobs told me, not even close.

- NY Times, 2014

Additionally, Jobs' biographer wrote that, every evening, Steve made a point of having dinner at the big long table in their kitchen, discussing books and history and a variety of things. They never pulled out a phone or tablet.

Since then, Apple has improved the iPhone each year by adding several new features:

o 2008: App Store and 3G network support
o 2009: Video recording and Personal Hotspot
o 2010: Retina display
o 2011: Siri and iCloud
o 2012: Taller 4-inch screen, Lightning connector, and LTE
o 2013: Touch ID
o 2014: Larger 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens
o 2015: 3D Touch, Live Photos, and 4K video recording
o 2016: Waterproofing and dual-lens camera on iPhone 7 Plus

Timelines like this are what really make me realize just how stagnant iPhone "innovation" has become since about 2012... really nothing new and amazing. Samsung\Google released most things before apple and now has stuff like wireless charging, fast charge, 2x the battery life, etc. Just seems like apple had a strong out-the-gate, and then got a cramp, meanwhile everyone else passed by. Guess complacency wasn't learned from Nokia, Sony, Blackberry, Palm, etc. :-(

The next release of a product is almost NEVER announced on the same day as the original version was released. It's cliche and stupid. Normally the new announcement is made during an major anniversary YEAR, not the same day. Anniversaries are about celebrating what came before.
Celebrating the past.....in the fastest moving industry ever created.....I would say any looking back is stupid and rather sad.

What, announce it 4 months after they announced the previous iteration? You sound foolish.
and what would be wrong with accelerating the pace on this one occa
As opposed to all the other top of the range phones that cost... wait a minute... exactly the same
i didnt make any comparisons, I was just pointing out that a premium price should (and mostly with Apple) does go with premium quality
