That's a VERY fast turn-around................

Didn't last long! I was considering waiting for the refurbs but assumed it would be ~3 months.

usa times for refurbs are 6 week in general. one exception was the 27inch iMacs there were so many yellow screen issues and they could not find a fix. refurbs came 5 months around march 2010 and the machine came out in oct 2009

but they called them all back as the yellow tinge was not fixed. I know I was shopping for one. I did not get one until feb of 2010 and I gave up on the refurbs I purchased new. then a month later they came out in a bunch. for now the tinge is in pretty good control. just don't run your machine 24/7 the yellow is an overheating issue more then anything else. I was lucky I grabbed a 3.06 and it runs very cool.

That doesn't really explain why people had yellowing on brand new machines that hadn't been running for more than an hour.

We shouldn't turn this into one of those yellowing threads though, that issue has been beaten to death
 
That 30" display looks tasty, I may have bought that instead of my 27" ACD, too late now.
 
Wow I wonder how are they going to sell any 2009s with that pricing? Those are a great buy for anyone who has waiting until now. Makes the quad a little more reasonable :rolleyes:
 
This stupid thread just cost me roughly $2k. :)

Thanks for the heads-up. Got one + magic trackpad. I'll consider the Apple Care too.

Beats the heck out of me. I'm usually a fan of refurbed Macs but the 2009 MPs are definitely a bad deal; slower processors, smaller boot drive (usually), really crappy video card, non 64-bit EFI and less ability to upgrade processors.

At $1800 the base 2009 MP would be a worthy deal.
 
The 2009 refurb is a terrible deal made worse that the 2010 refurb is the same price.

You can get the 2009 brand new from third party vendors like Cost Central for less than the Apple refurb.

My first MP, I'm excited!!! I'm currently running a 4-year old Mini.

It's still cheaper to grab a local college student with their ID, cruise down to Delaware and use the .edu discount + no sales tax to pick up a brand new MP :)

That is of course if you live in the tri-state area!

What a great solution...................... for the one person who reads this forum that lives in Del. :)

For the rest of us, the refurb store is the best "deal" available on the 2010's. That said, I'll agree with the previous post that the 09 Quad refurbs are horrible deals.

I've thought about it, and I think I will pass on the Apple Care. My credit card provides 1 year warranty that starts after the mfr's warranty, so I already get 2 years free. The Apple Care price would essentially be only for one year (the third year).

I've heard this a lot, but how would your CC company handle just one faulty part? Say your graphic card fries, what would the turnaround be until you're back up and running? Sorry, for the OT...just curious.

A big point about applecare at a good discount 180 vs 250 is your resale value. if you want to sell that mac pro in 30 months the next owner gets 0 coverage. with apple care he has 6 months coverage. a very good selling point for a 2k item.

I have a year to think about it, right? And it will cover everything purchased together with the MP (in my case the magic pad), even if I get the Apple Care later?
 
yes you can wait 12 months. i only mentioned buying it now due to a good price from a legit dealer. if you shop around say 9 or 10 months from now you would most likely get the same good deal from a legit dealer. I got applecare for 159 from jr.com 2 weeks ago so they may beat the 179.99 price they have now.

I'm sure more then one or two of us live in NJ which is an hour...give or take, to the DE Apple Store.

Easy there Thunder.....the 2009 is a great machine at the refurb price. Don't be dumping on a machine that many others have bought and are using.:D
