I came up with an Applescript app that checks the refurbished section of the Apple store and emails me whenever there is one added or removed, along with an html page of what it was before, and what it is after the change. The script runs in the background and checks every 5 minutes (or less if I want) so that as soon as one is added, I can scoop it up! (This script can be modified so that any website can be checked for changes)

I'll post the code once I get mine this week (hopefully a hex comes into the Canada store sooner than later)!

Day 5

Anyone have shipping status on their order yet?

Today is the 5th business day and still no shipping notice for me.

No notification yet, but my "delivers" window is Oct 13 - Oct 19.

I did get my Magic Trackpad and free-after-rebate printer pretty quickly. Tracking shows that my SSDs arrive tomorrow. Too bad all this stuff is sitting around waiting for a MP to attach to.

Delivery Window?

my window is: Oct 9 - Oct 16

My window is closing or stuck, not sure.

Got it!

Yup, the second it was posted to the Apple refurb store, I 1-clicked it! Yea! Got my ram and SSD last night as well. My window is 19 Oct - 26 Oct. I'll post the Applescript code tonight.

Is your status "Not yet shipped" or "Prepared for Shipment"? Mine switched from the former to the latter this morning. I think I ordered 1 day after you.

Hopefully this new status means it is on the loading dock waiting for today's FedEx truck.

I'm sure this thread is boring everyone else. :)

Monday evening mine changed to "Prepared for Shipment".

Today, Tuesday, still no change "Prepared for Shipment".

Let me know when yours changes to shipped. Thanks.

Here is my script that got me my hexacore.

I got my tracking number this afternoon (Delivery on first day of the window) so they must be updating faster now (or they are more efficient in Canada :p)

Waiting for the stock 2.8 Nehalem model to come back on the CDN Apple store for $2199 and I'll jump on it.

Are you going to use the script I made, or just chance it?

Where are your Macs shipping from?

Mine says: LEWISBERRY, PA

Mine is via UPS and doesn't say yet where it's shipping from. Is yours FedEx or UPS?

Update: Shipped from CONCORD, ON, CA (Ontario Canada)

Hey cool, thanks for sharing the script you made. I tried it and it works. I'm trying to decide between a new 2009 2.66GHz 4-core and a refurbished 2010 3.33GHz 6-Core (provided another one comes available).

The 2009 quad-core is only $1643.36 at CostCentral with no sales tax and free shipping. I'd replace the GT 120 with the 5870 from Apple at $449 + $26.94 sales tax, bringing the total to only $2119.30 (and I'm so frugal I called up CostCentral to see if they would do it lower to move the 2009's they had -- and the sales rep I spoke with said they couldn't).

That's a lot cheaper than the $3149 + $188.94 sales tax = $3337.94 of the hexacore (with a 5770 I presume).

I've been reading some benchmarks and trying to decide. The 5870 would be awesome for games, but the extra clock speed would be great for running virtual machines and everything else. I'll let your script run for awhile and think about it. :)

Make sure you change the address to the US store and not the CND one that I used (and left as default).

Why not go with the 2010 2.8 ?

Mac arrived. It does have a notch taken out of it in the metal case, very small, but I did notice it. Other than that, it's great. Maybe I'll post a pic later.

ETA: the notch is normal, I forgot that the side opens and that is what the notch is for.

This thing is like brand new, can not tell anyone has even touched it.
Same size as my old dual G5.

Mine just arrived...RFB 12 cores 2.66 GREAT but not in the original box...:(

still waiting at the accel adapters for the 3 dvi monitors set up...

Mine just arrived today. Woot!

BTW - If you ordered between Oct 1 and 19, you can get iLife '11 for $6.99+tax, free shipping.

Awesome info! I just got mine yesterday, and installed my RAM and 120Gb SSD.

I did my geekbench score and it's awesome!
G5-32-bit: 2094
G5-64-bit: 2169
6-core-32-bit: 14283
6-core-64-bit: 16009

Simply amazing response times!!! I'm just transfering my data from the G5 to my SSD and 1Tb drives now. I am blown away at the difference it makes in everyday computing. :D

Well, it took 12 days, but your little script alerted me to a hexacore in the store today. I had made the decision to purchase it if one finally showed up. I was tempted by a 3.2 quad yesterday. I currently have a 2007 17" Macbook Pro with a 160GB Intel SSD and 6GB of memory. It has served me well, but I noticed it leaves my desk like twice a year, so I decided my next computer would be a desktop -- the performance cost just wasn't worth the portability benefit. I also ordered the OCZ Vertex 2 240GB SSD from NewEgg for $449 and 12GB memory from OWC.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Awesome! I'm glad it worked for you. I also did an upgrade to my hex with a 120Gb OCZ SSD, and added 2 4Gb ram and used my stock 1Gb ram for 10Gb total. Enjoy it! It has so much power I'm having to find new software to take advantage of it! Plus I'm not looking to upgrade my box for at least 5 more years (but I'll probably add more SSD and other stuff as time goes by).
