Intel Shares Halted, Company Reveals Chipset Design Error, Will Trim First-Quarter Revenue by $300M (story developing)
From CNBC .....
Please don't let it be the new MBP 😱
Is your thread title a question (usually indicated by a question mark) or is it a statement, as you use an exclamation mark but the word order ("is it") indicates a question?
I am just curious.
It's a little misleading, it's not a chip issue, it's a chipset issue. Doesn't actually affect a processor. Press release from Intel here: http://newsroom.intel.com/community...es-chipset-design-error-implementing-solution
great. this sucks. so much for the hope last week of finally a mbp report of shortages, now were going to have to wait even longer, who knows how long; and go back to hearing about ipad all the time and all that
As far as I know there's not only a difference between desktop and mobile processors, but also a difference between the chipsets that are being used. So, this error doesn't necessarily have to involve both desktop and notebook chipsets.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Does this affect only the quad-core Sandy Bridges?
The mobile version of the chip is codenamed "Cougar Point - M". According to Intel PR, the faulty chip is the "Cougar Point", which is used in desktops.
I just purchased an HP with the i7-2600 chip. Does this affect me?
I can still return it.
Thanks
