I've started filming an motocross/mtb movie solely using the iPhone 4 and noticed that I need some additional accessories to do this.
This includes:
1) a tripod mount
2) variety of lenses
3) something to stabilize the iPhone when filming
I’ve been quite busy browsing the web for the necessary accessories and have compiled a list (seen below) of what I have found.
If you have used any of the following accessories or know of other accessories that one could use when creating a movie with the iPhone, it would be greatly appreciated!
1. Tripod Mounts for iPhone 4
1.1 Steadicam iPhone 4 Smoothee Mount $24,95
1.2 Snapmount Tripod Mount for iPhone 4 $18,95
1.3 The Glif $20,00
1.4 eBay Tripod Mount for iPhone 4 $2-$4
The eBay one is the only one i've tried and while it is ok, especially for the price, it is definitely not great.
+Cheap
+Will work with a case
-First one broke within an hour of use
-Doesn't hold the phone tight enough
1.5 GorillaMobile for iPhone 4 $39.95
This seems great for when you want to film from special angles, e.g. attach it to the branch of a tree and film from above.
1.6 Kungl iPhone 4 Tripod Adapter/Mount $23,99 CAD
1.7 Lummi - iStiki £11,50
A very interesting tripod mount using suction cups!
2. Lenses for iPhone 4 (some also work on other phones)
2.1 Photojojo!Fisheye, Macro, and Wide Angle Camera Phone Lenses $40,00
2.2 Magnetic / Detachable Wide Angle + Macro Lens for iPhone $16,99
In 2.2 and 2.8 there is a magnetic ring that attaches to the iPhone 4 and it unfortunately it partly covers the flash. If you need the flash this is one solution and if the adhesive isn’t strong enough to securely hold the lens here is a solution for that too. Here is completely different solution that might also work fairly well.
2.3 Wide Angle + Fish Eye + 12X Telephoto Lens Combo for iPhone 4G (Black) $79,99
2.4 GSI Super Quality Detachable Wide Angle Lens for the iPhone 4 $19,99
2.5 iPhone 4 Wide Angle Case $119,95
2.6 Owle Bubo $169,95
DSLR lens adapter for]DSLR lens adapter for Owle Bubo
2.7 Wide Angle Lens and Back case for iPhone 4 $21.95
2.8 Magnetic / Detachable 180° FishEye (0.28X) Lens for Apple iPhone 4 $24,99
Not sure if the metallic ring has been pre-cut, but this is how it should look if you want the flash to work.
2.9 Magnetic / Detachable Telephoto (2X) Lens for Apple iPhone 4 $14,99
2.10 GSI Super Quality 8x Zoom for iPhone 4 $29,99
2.11 GSI Super Quality Detachable Fisheye Lens for the iPhone 3G-3GS-4G $19,99
2.12 Factron Quattro for iPhone HD $280 + the cost of the lenses which can be found here.
2.13 Factron Quattro for iPhone SP $240 + lenses.
3. Stabilization for iPhone 4
3.1 Steadicam Smoothee for iPhone 4 $179,95
3.2 IglooCase $57 (not released yet, Kickstarter)
3.3 POM – Point of View Camera for iPhone $59 (not released yet, Kickstarter)
3.4 WOXOM Glyde + Orbit $45 (not released yet, Kickstarter)
3.5 Zgrip iPhone Pro $295,00
3.6 Zgrip iPhone Cinema Kit $499,00

Dad Labs Link The DIY Steady Cam rig is meant for a normal camcorder, but don't see why it wouldn't also work for the iPhone
For external microphones check out this thread
The app I use for filming is ProCamera because it has all the functionality one needs when filming (separate exposure/focus/wb).
Additionally here are a couple of tips on how to create better footage.
As mentioned before, if anyone has used any of these and would like to comment on how well they work it would be greatly appreciated! Alternatively if someone knows of other accessories or ideas to make filming with an iPhone 4 easier that would also be great.
Thanks in advance,
Andy
