Meaning not many people are getting the iPhone 7 phones?
Not at all. There are plenty out there that will buy the new iPhone no matter what. It doesn't matter what Apple puts out. But there are other people that want to see some value for their money and if the new phone doesn't show that value, they will be more than happy to keep the old one. If the phone looks the same, has incremental spec bumps that aren't noticed by the average Joe, then Joe doesn't feel the need to upgrade.

Sure, there is a spectrum of some people on one side of it and some on the other, and many at many points in between (many of those are still excited about a new iPhone and an announcement event of one and not because they will get something new just because it's from Apple).

How does no one understand Samsung and Co. do those things half assed, to where certain things don't work or flow properly with all their rushed specs? By now it has to be obvious Apple doesn't acquire certain tech until they feel they fine tune it. For instance, wireless charging isn't wireless, and you have to SIT NEXT TO A PLUGGED IN PAD if you want to use your "headphones" or whatnot while it charges. So obviously Apple is working on real wireless charging to where you walk in your house or get into your car and your phone just charges.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't see the next iPhone being a huge redesign. I believe it will retain the same outside design with the same home button as the 7 has. I do believe it will have a new OLED screen and wireless charging along with the other usual upgrade like camera and processor. That's what I think anyway. Like I said I hope I'm wrong.

In order for any of this to happen, Jon Ive needs to put down his cheeseburger and get off his fat ass and actually design!

I would find it hilarious if this didn't turn out to be true and a 7s came out with the same form factor

I have to say, the last time I was truly blown away by a new iPhone launch was the iPhone 4. It had an unreliable display and was crazy fast and smooth. Plus battery life was bloody good too! Since then its all be a bit meh, that is why I am hoping the 10th anniversary will be something very special, I mean it has to be doesn't it?

Steve Jobs will be spinning in his grave to see how iPhone design and innovation has gone down the plughole.....

They'd market it as they had the courage to do what nobody else would do and keep the same design or 4 years!

The thing most people seem to be missing is that the rumours only point to one new larger model with a 5.8" curved OLED screen, with smaller models continuing to use LCD. Based on the rumours that have circulated I think there still will be a 7s and 7s Plus (with the same basic design) and a new premium/flagship iPhone (lets call it iPhone Pro).

There is NO WAY Apple is gonna keep the same form factor 4 years in a row. Not gonna happen.

Why not? They claim the new 7 is one of best sellers Apple has ever had so why change the design? People would go nuts for a 7S so they might as well get a couple cycles out of the new design. The 7 is an all new phone according to Apple so I'd think we'll see a 7S model. Why not stretch it out and make all the money you can? People will buy it anyway.

It's from the carriers saying that sales are way up over any other sales for the iPhone.

Well, I can see why they wouldn't change the design. As someone who got interested in Android phones the past year, I have to say, other than Samsung's flagship models, most of the competition isn't that exciting looking and some are really lame. They might look slightly prettier here and there, and many clearly are attempts at copying, but love 'em or hate 'em, iPhones manage to look very recognizable from a few feet away and the design is evolved to the point it is very durable.

I think my Note 7 is gorgeous and I love everything about the look and the feel, but I work outdoors a lot, digging up weeds as tall as I am and digging out roots and all the other things people do in landscaping and gardening and I can't walk around with a glass phone in my pocket. My SE boldly goes where no Samsung can. But the SE isn't water resistant which is why I am looking at IPhone 7's at all.

One change I hope Apple makes is the ability to record videos with stereo sound. My loaner Galaxy S7 and Note 7 can. I was disappointed to be told the iPhone 7 still can't do this. It makes quite a difference to sound quality in videos, at least in my testing with my 6S Plus and Note 7.

Can't wait. At first whisper of same case design, this place will be in uproar.

You bet people will be in uproar!!! Obviously the most important part of a "phone" is the case design

I personally don't understand it. I remember when the 4s came out, and tons of people were angry because "how will anyone know you have THE newest iPhone!!!???". Apple changed the design on the 7 by cleaning up the ungainly antenna lines, and created a more seamless phone. It's made from an extremely tough 7000 series aluminum alloy, water resistant, and is comfortable to hold.

Guys, it's pretty clear that smartphones form factor is not going to drastically change at this point. These are thin rectangles. Oh I know!! Rather than keep it fairly thin and round, how about just for the heck of it they taper the phone and make the edges sharp...oh! And make the whole darn thing glass again, because that design was very durable. /s

Edit: Apple gears their products as a more high end product. For many people these are status symbols. I'll use a couple examples where very popular products that are high end status symbols have largely remained the same over the years. Rolex and their Submariner, Porsche and the 911, Mont Blanc and their fountain pens. These companies are doing just fine, and people still buy their products even though they have largely looked the same for decades.

People act as if next year's phone is going to be a radical form factor change AND radically improved innards. This simply isn't going happen. While they might change the design (which will be rendered moot by placing a case on it), the function of the phone will be minimally altered. We're at the point where we're not likely to see major changes to the iPhone. Perhaps Apple was trying to tell us this with this year's release.

A Nokia + Sony hybrid design would be lovely.
I dislike phones with rounded edges. A slight chamfered edge would be welcome.

Order it on release day and with luck you might be able to watch the keynote for the iPhone 8S release... if you are really lucky that is!

/me wanders off to wait another 8 weeks for his iPhone 7+ :(

That's the irony in all this. People want this radical change to be an "all glass" iPhone. The thing is, like this year's iPhone, it's been done before. In fact, Apple is still selling this form factor, minus the glass on the back (because it proved to be a weakness).
