So, they will make the iPad in line with their other iPads? Wow, this is something to anxiously wait for! Can't wait for them to unleash new technological marvel upon us!

This design refresh looks nice! I feel that it’s a missed opportunity to remove the home button and bring rounded corners across all the lineup, but I’m sure that some people want the home button anyway, and Apple should keep this entry level iPad as cheap as possible.

And good god, it took four years to bring USB-C across all iPads but we’re finally getting here
I think TouchID on the power button would be nice, but you bring up an excellent point. The problem with iPhones and iPads now is they’re not user intuitive anymore. They used to have that home button that was like a get out of jail free or I am lost take me home button.

Now, we have swipes and gestures that require thinking and learning. It wouldn’t be as easy to teach your grandma how to use an iPad Pro 12.9” 5th generation as it would the standard iPad with Home Button.

I personally would like to see Tim Cook retire and Scott Forstall come back and take his role that he was assume to fill by Steve Jobs after learning more of the business as Cook was only meant to be a transitional leader beyond Jobs’s death. Sort of like when Steve came back, I would like to see Scott come back. And he would make **** a lot easier to use than this ridiculous Stage Manager implementation and all the prior bs multitasking gestures.

If it retained the $329 price point, 64GB is alright imo. But if Apple increases the price to $399 or more, then yeah, better have 128GB base.
Yeah I don’t think so. Their Pro iPads only have 128GB, 64GB is for all others like the Air and mini even have 64GB. Someone’s dreaming to think Apple gives 128GB even at $399 with a new design.

Keeping the home button seems… odd when it otherwise follows the design of the other iPads.
I very much doubt they’ll go with the laminated display, though. I feel like that’s one way to save money on production.

I'm guessing it will have a similar height and width to the iPad Air and iPad Pro 11-inch to make it compatible with the Magic Keyboard?

Actually it should. Many people use it for light browsing and watching tv. They shouldn't pay a higher markup just for extra storage they wont use.
Exactly. My iPad Air has 34 out of 64 GB used. Why would I want to pay for more storage?

Also people talking OLED, 120 Hz, laminated screen, it‘s the base model. If they give it iPad Pro specs it’ll have iPad Pro price.

So now they are going to have three almost the same products… The only difference between pro 11 and air already is promotion, one more camera, lidar, 4 speakers instead of 2 and face id instead of touch id, more base storage and 0.1inch smaller lcd. Pretty small difference, but ok it’s something..

And now the difference between air and basic ipad will be a14 vs m1 and touch id in the bezel instead of on the side? Oh and 0.5 inch smaller lcd. And no stage manager for whatever reason.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper in terms of manufacturing costs to just produce ipad pro and basic ipad? Something seems redundant here… or the basic ipad is another bait to buy the more expensive air/pro

It would be nice to have a laminated display. They definitely aren’t giving the display anything else with 10.5”.

I bought the newest iPad mini. Second most disappointing Apple device I have ever owned. Never seen jelly scrolling like this in my life on any device. Even a cheap Amazon Fire has a better scrolling display. It’s so annoying I cannot read anything on the iPad mini.

iPad Air and base iPad have enough volume to amortise any additional costs. Base iPad will also probably have less RAM.

And yes, Apple will deliberately make the base iPad uglier than it needs to be so that customers that really don't like the look pay a premium for a more modern design.

Hmmm… yeah… I think there were "reasons" why he left.

Not all psychos are a good fit.

If it is not too intrusive to ask, but what was the most disappointing Apple device you owned?

Or instead of selling 2 similar ipads with the same size display and shell, they could provide the option to configure specs, like by macbooks/ computers. Like an 11 inch general ipad where you could configure what cpu/ ram you want. And then a pro version, which would perhaps offer a 12.9 shell and have some pro features as standard and some features resereved for it, like face id or promotion.

But yeah, it’s probably just their selling strategy which works best.

The reality is that if Apple started the base ipad and air models at 128 GB, it would further cannibalise the ipad pro. The Air 5 in particular at 128 GB base would pretty much make the Pro redundant, and Apple knows this very well.

Anyways this new design looks really good and welcomed. Will sell like hot cakes for sure, with the serious performance from the A14 and 4 GB RAM and hopefully £329 price tag.

Knowing Apple, I wouldn't bet on that.
It would be just different enough so you would have to buy A Magic Keyboard for this specific model.
