Like the look. If they go USB C they have to change to Pencil 2, or make a USB C Pencil. Fingers crossed it does support stage manager. We use iPads for our sales force but allowing them to connect to a monitor and or dock of some kind could be a huge boon for us

The new iPad should NOT start with 64GB. How about the base model should start out with 128GB.
I disagree. Given that Apple sells a 64 GB iPad mini and a 64 GB iPad Air, the entry-level iPad should be the last iPad to move away from 64 GB.

You’re not going to have the base model entry-level iPad start at the same capacity as the iPad Pro models.

Definitely interested in techspecs and teardown. Led ligth would be welcome. But not going to buy it if is not laminated, not paying for more air than absolutely necessary.

Still no Stage Manager for sure.
At first I was dissapointed with the Mx prerequisite, but now I think that current splitscreen and one window on top are good options enough. I did not accept the Mx deal, whoever wants that - go for it & enjoy.

64GB is not uncommon for an entry level tablet. Look at Samsung.
What is crazy is not having a 128GB option at all. Again ... Samsung.
The picture looks like the rear camera has a flash.
It also looks like the front camera is still portrait. I think that is silly now that we live in a Zoom world.
As some claim on this forum, most people also have an iPhone and use it for everything.
Only the still current iPad 9 has 64GB. Look how long it took Apple to do that.
My iPad 7 is 32GB. No room for files.
Only my 2017 Amazon Fire 10 has 32GB.
My 2019 Amazon Fire, 2019 Samsung Galaxy Tab A and my 2021 Nokia T20 are all 64GB with micro SD card slots.
It is my opinion to drop the iPad and concentrate on the iPad Mini, Air and Pro models.

I don’t think it will be laminated display. Cheap iPad is non laminated for inexpensive glass swaps for their target audience.

Apple must have ordered a zillion home buttons by accident a decade ago. I see no other reason still using them.
I'm sure they are alot Cheaper than face ID sensors, very reliable, and some of us actually like a physical home button and Touch id.
Removing the headphone Jack would make it more difficult to use in a classroom. With classroom shared iPads the kids are usually told to bring their own earbuds (which everyone has and can be obtained cheaply)
Theres tons of USB-C and Lightning and bluetooth earbuds out there, which I'd guess the majority of kids already have.

However I'd hate to see 3.5 disappear as you simply cannot use bluetooth for any low latency games (FPS for example), so you are stuck using more adaptors.

There's been lightning docks / hubs available for eons.

That’s the tech nerd coming out in you. Most people just want a tablet that’s affordable and works. If you ask the average person what’s a laminated display they’re going to look at you like you’re crazy. The things people here care about versus the things normal average people care about are totally different.

The first thing people see is how it looks. Not some fancy spec or any of that how it looks that’s why captures peoples attention to buy a product.

The second thing people see is the price. If it looks super fancy and it has a price to match most people will stink oh wow that’s nice but too expensive I’m not getting it. In the non tech nerd group of people only a few spoiled rich kids will convince their mom to buy it.

The last thing that effect sales is word of mouth and what people see online. No not tech nerd YouTube online but normal online. It’s either Steve from work has an iPad and he really loves it or I saw on this one show how they talked about it.

The biggest thing Apple needs to do is keep it under $400 because that’s where it gets too expensive. The next thing is make it look better. If they can minimize the bezels and put the Touch ID button on the side like on the iPad Air that would be perfect.

The headphone jack is dead except for certain situations like a classroom where you want cheap earbuds, young children, and senior citizens. Almost everyone else has moved over to Bluetooth. Perhaps Apple could make a very low end iPad with a headphone jack for those markets.

That's the reason why I only buy the budget iPad because it's affordable. I will miss the headphone jack. I have a 6th and 9th gen iPad, all base models. I'm very happy happy with those iPad's. I couldn't see myself buying anything other than the budget iPad as my needs are basic.

I’m just curious why do you use wired earbuds? I know quite a few older people who just don’t want to deal with a change. I could never get my mom to go with wireless. I know there is the audiophile group of people who like wired.

I remember when I bought my last pair of wired earbuds. I was hesitant to go with AirPods because I would lose wired earbuds all the time. I felt like every other month I was spending $20 for a pair of wired earbuds. I lost my first pair of AirPods at the gym because I was careless and I think someone picked them up but after that I never had that problem. I guess somehow knowing they were more expensive made me pay more attention to them.

What do you use your iPad for? I bought the iPad Air because I knew I was going to watch movies on it so I figured maybe the screen was better but at the same time I didn’t feel like I should buy the Pro because I’m never going to do anything crazy with it. I’ve played around with the base model iPad and it seemed really good. I even tried a base model Samsung tablet that was around $250 if I remember right. It was okay but the speakers were terrible. It sounded like they should be in a kids toy. I ended up giving it to someone for their kid.

I find they sound louder and crank out more bass. They also cutout all external noise. I do own several wireless earbuds and they do sound nice but I find they can't compete with my wired earbuds, especially my wired Cowon earbuds which have dual drivers.

I use the iPad for the basics, web, stream music, email, YT. My 9th Gen still has 47GB out of the 64GB.

I can understand that. My AirPods go louder than I probably should ever be listening to music but I suspect wired could go more. As to block me out external noise there’s always AirPods Pro. For some reason I’ve never tried them so I can’t really see how good they are but most people seem to like them.

My biggest gripe with wired headphones was the stupid wire was always in my way and will get caught on things sometimes. Yeah I know first world problems 😂

Yeah and I can also attach an external headphone amp to make them sound like I was at a concert. o_O

I own several Cowon music players just because of the sound quality they put out and they all have a headphone jack. Yeah, I can relate to the stupid wire getting snagged especially while i'm listening to music.

If it is not too intrusive to ask, but what was the most disappointing Apple device you owned?
AppleWatch S4 in Stainless Steel. The part that sucked was S5 had some major improvement I wanted. I went and asked if I trade in this AW S4 SS how much will I get towards the new one? $140. It was the same price as aluminum. I found I lost $650 or 80% of its value in less than a year for sure but I think it was like six months or something. So, I kept the damned thing until the series 7 and now I would never buy an upgraded model. Not worth it.

One thing I will say is before they ever released the Apple Watch originally, I expected it to be this gold, titanium, silver or steel case and bands that you buy for “life.” Then every year you just take it in and the whole thing is an interchangeable electronics piece that fits into your existing Apple Watch. And maybe they come out with new designs and what not. But as it stands, I find this idea of throw away technology the worst thing Apple has done. They brag about how they’re sustainable this and eco friendly that, but then these watches at $800 are worthless months later if you want to upgrade to something newer.

I think Apple could sell $15k Apple Watches if it wasn’t like the original and worthless other than the value of the gold just a couple years later.

I think Jonny Ive really had what he wanted but Apple wanted to create a business model with it where people just throw the Watch away after they upgrade to get the newer features they want.

So yeah, that was the most disappointing Apple Product due to the total loss of value instantly or near instantly. There just has to be a better way than their current product model for the Apple Watch. I think replacing the inside electronics as Apple Watch gets more technically complicated and smaller should be easier in older cases that should be bigger. That would be if Apple went at this with a sustainable product model instead of a trash it every year product sales system. And of course it will actually last around three years before the battery life is so bad it’s not worth keeping.

I use my headphone jack regularly with wired headphones from JVC. Dirt cheap.
Why would I blow money on Bluetooth?
Yes, I have USB-C to 3.5 adapters.
Apple (in my opinion) is all about profit.
Steve Jobs was mostly about the product and the user.
Don't believe it is like that now.
I'm an Android guy because I get what I want for a price I also want.
Lenovo has killed off the 3.5 jack too.
Oh well, I'm a tree, I can bend. (9 to 5 movie)
If the new iPad goes over $400, well, that's 2 Android tablets for me.
My favorite OS is still Amazon's Fire OS.
I just received an OS update to my 2019 Fire 10.

If there's any kind of truth to the following:

- The iPad mini will stay on A-series chips comparable to that of the Pro model iPhone out at the time of its release or the one before it

- The Standard iPad will stay on A-series chips comparable to that of the iPhone of 1-2 years ago

- The iPad Air and iPad Pros will continue to run M-series chips

- The only true innovative multi-tasking and/or UI innovations will go to those with the M-series chips going forward

...Then Apple ought to lump the iPad mini and the standard iPad back into the iOS fold while advancing iPadOS to actually put those larger screens and beefier SoCs to work.

I've heard enough arguments for why the iPad mini doesn't need to join that party and I guess I can buy that argument. The standard model iPad isn't really catered to the kinds of things an M1-equipped iPad Air would be doing anyway. Which, is fine. iOS can accommodate everything those devices would be used for while iPadOS could be free to focus on the more serious and larger tablets.

Try playing a FPS or racing game with bluetooth. It's not cool hearing the the sounds with 1/10th+ second delay after you fire or hit something.

Then theres any music apps e.g. samplers, dj programs, garageband where you need as close to zero latency as possible or they are unusable.
