Appreciate the input but to me anything you can buy on credit or a financing plan is not a status symbol at all. Besides the fact how hollow and superficial and how yesterday the thinking is in the first place ;)
I don’t know a lot of folks paying cash for their homes or cars and luxury cars, at the very least, are still considered status symbols.

As for phones, as previously mentioned it’s silly to see phones as status symbols in the US and other developed nations where income is higher and it’s easy to get phones on installment.

Other countries, you need to pay cash and $1000+ may be the equivalent of 6 months to 1 year income for majority of the population so high end phones are still considered status symbols in those regions. Hollow and superficial but it is what it is.

Other countries don't have credit cards? If your carrier doesn't offer financing you can just put it on a card. I guess if your country doesn't have credit cards then you're out of luck though.

Other countries are still primarily cash economies and unlike the US, banks in some countries only issue credit cards to people who can actually afford to pay their debt. Besides, credit card debt is very expensive debt.

If one only makes $400-500 per month (where minimum wage is ~$200/mo or ~$10/day) and have kids to put through school, it would be very irresponsible to buy $1000+ phones.

I got the impression from tech specs. Just google it or look it up in Apple's website. The iPhone 4 and iPhone XR/11 have the exact same pixels per inch, meaning it is the same resolution. (ppi is the real metric for comparison as it is adjusted for different screen sizes/dimensions).

The screen on the 11 is much much better than the one on the iPhone 4 though. The pixels per inch are about where the similarities end.
