Hi guys. Are you getting OS X lion on release day from the Mac app Store?

If not then why not ?
Sorry if there is a similar thread recently somewhere :)

So am I!

I'm going to. Cheap, no need to go to store (although I enjoyed staying overnight to be the first one getting it XD.)

I certainly will be. I will most likely however wait until the evening so I can leave it downloading over night.

For those people who won't update, you have nothing to lose and more to gain except your PPC apps ;)

I will. At $29.99 why not. Just debating on wether I should do a Clean-Install or not.

Apparently the installers have gotten more advanced and a clean install is not required by apple. It thinks it is an organizational thing but it's up to you. I'm not against either. have fun with lion when it gets released.

I will download it the second it's released, and then let it download overnight on my 6MB down fiber connection. (about 1-4 hours :()

I will probably just upgrade. I already have the GM installed though so I am wondering what will happen once I actually purchase Lion. I assume if the build is the same I won't have to actually do anything at all. Either way I will still purchase and support the Dev-Team. If $29.99 is going to break me I shouldn't have spent the money I did on a MBA and 27" iMac.

Well I didn't purchase a Dev account for Lion. I don't have that much money to spend on something I wouldn't use it for it's intended purposes. I am not a Developer but support their hard work. The only build I install of Lion was a GM so I could do my own testing with various 3rd Party Apps I already have to let others know what I find works and doesn't work.

I have purchased Dev Accounts for iOS in the past though. I just don't have the time for Software Building.

If you are running GM, you must be a dev and don't need to purchase lion, You'll get it for free.

You still seem nice anyway. :D it is very honorable for someone to admit that and get it later on release. I think it is fair enough. *I am not supporting anything illegal* in a non insulting way to anyone :)

I'm foregoing Lion at the moment.
First Lion brakes AFP so Time Machine won't work with my NAS. I'm not sure if other apps of mine will be affected and I don't see any added benefit. That is, the major features of Lion really don't entice me to upgrade

I will after waiting for 12h. In that time I will be watching this site intensively :)

I think some people believe a clean install is what ars technica described here.
http://arstechnica.com/apple/guides...rt-with-lion-migrating-without-assistance.ars

THIS IS NOT A TYPICAL CLEAN INSTALL

I really don't understand why anyone would want to rebuild their iTunes an iPhoto Library. You loose all of your song ratings, playcounts etc..
BTW:The iPhoto library is a little bigger than the size of all your pics because it saves optimized versions for your iPhone on it. you can remove those if you really want to way easier than rebuilding your library (and re-rating all of you pictures..).

Yes, I will. My first upgrade will be on my Mac Mini which acts as test system; after that my MBA and finally my big iMac.

Hoped to make that on this weekend as we had a bank day in Japan but need to wait a bit longer now.

That sounds like a great plan

Ps. I love Japan even though I'm in Australia ! :)

I've got it already (developer) but won't be upgrading any system because there are a couple of critical programs that aren't compatible yet. I've also got a mini with Snow Leopard Server that I won't be upgrading at all because SLS works fine and Lion Server is a downgrade.

I sure will! I'll get it for free since I bought a new Mac two days ago! Would have bought it day-one anyway but it is nice of Apple giving it for free to people who recently bought a new Mac.

Fair enough
