The biggest reason I use my Mac instead of iOS devices is just so I can use multiple apps concurrently without having to press the home button so many times.

Did you know you can use 4 fingers to swipe between apps? No home button presses needed. Multitasking is very quick that way.

Just make sure you have "Multitasking Gestures" enabled in the "General" Settings menu.

I won't be surprised if Apple copies the Microsoft Surface 3 Pro. They already copied the Samsung Phablet thingie

Apple's Q3 board meeting:
Larger screen iPhones are a big hit. Smaller iPads are tanking. Here's an idea, let's do bigger iPads. YAY! Great idea folks, let's make it happen! I'll call Samsung, you call Foxconn.

Smaller iPads are tanking? Where did you read that, or are you referring to the recent MR iPad usage article?

Uh....the iPad Mini 3 will not be discontinued less than a year after release. If anything the 2 will be gone if the 4 is released in Q2.

That sounds like a bit of an improvement. It's not available on my iPhone 6+ though :-/

The iPad 3 was discontinued after 7 months or so and Apple kept the iPad 2 around.

This makes sense, the iPad mini has an A5 and will be extinct soon. The mini 2 can be sold for less since there's no Touch ID, so better to keep that around as the cheap option and dump the iPad mini 3 for an updated iPad mini 4.

The current iPad mini lineup is so convoluted and disappointing. Very strange misstep from Apple. They need to definitely consolidate it.

If the iPad Mini rumors are true(same release as iPad Air + and discontinuation of iPad Mini 3) ... It will mean the iPad Mini 3 will be officially another iPad 3 and even another chance (since it says the Original Mini also will be discontinued) A5's won't get iOS 9

What, people here are surprised that when you do nothing but add your fingerprints to a device and sell the previous one for $100 less, that the new one will be a poor seller?

It is a mess. In a perfect world, you would have just one iPad for each size and it would be the latest model and technology and not crippled or inferior to any other sized iPad of that generation. Then sell modules for memory or LTE options and color scheme or case that you just snap on. I don't have a billion dollar business so that probably is the wrong approach.

I just can't see the point of it, well I can a little but just not so much for home consumers. The iPad is a good size, but why get a huge iPad when you can get a more powerful Macbook Air or Macbook Pro which will probably be around the same price point... at least they have a built in screen protector in the way of a foldable keyboard. Is it possible they are actually starting to run out of ideas because I'd hardly call the Apple Watch or Apple Pay great innovations and everything else just seems to be bigger, smaller or updated rehashes of the same thing.

Okay, bye. Because that will never happen. You'll get iOS apps with desktop-level features eventually (some apps already have them) — and a bigger display will help enable that. But touch UIs and mouse UIs are fundamentally incompatible.

Thank you, I wanted to say the same thing myself, but I don't have to...

You're right. But this move is so maddening. To discontinue a device so quickly creates a lot of buyers remorse.

With the lack of upgrades in the mini3 and the hot-glued touchID (ifixit.com) I'd say that a mini4 replacing the mini3 so soon means they missed some deadlines on the mini4 and pushed out a "rush job" mini3 with touchID just to get touchID in there. Could always just be a rumor, no more, though...

If you add in 8.0.1, OS X wifi issues, so-called bendy iPhones, and not-so-scratch-resistant-that-there-is-doubt-it-is-gorrilla-glass screens I'd say Apple is really under some severe timeline pressures. Whether that pressure makes diamonds or crushes the company has yet to be seen. I think they are going to have to space out some development here soon. My guess is there will be a sizable shift in hardware/software release dates right around when the move to the new campus takes place that will be blamed solely on the move...

This. Why people won't realise this and keep asking for OS X on a touchscreen is beyond me.

I just want an iPad mini that is designed similar to the Air 2, with an improved Retina (HD??) Display, and has an A8X chip.
The Air 2 is surprisingly thin and light and I'm sure they can make the mini even more so. What has held me back so far was the lack of color accuracy of the mini retina displays. The reds and purples look so washed out and should have been dealt with in the joke of a mini 3 upgrade. And why not continue on the great idea of having the iPads equal in all respects except for size? I'm excited for 2015!! :apple: Watch and an iPad mini 4 are potentially mine.

true, it may be just a rumor but if true what you say makes a lot of sense.

OSX along with USBs, otherwise there is no point of this. We cant keep on dumbing down computers - camon apple get out of this mindset. The Tablet fad is over.

No they didn't. They released a phone with a big screen.

If a big screen is an invention that can be copy protected, then wasn't Apple first with the iPad?
