12.9-Inch iPad Pro With Mini-LED Display Possibly 'Delayed' Until Early 2021

I won’t complain if they don’t release a mini-led version of the 12.9” iPad Pro this year, as it will keep me from wanting to upgrade my 2018 version. I’ve got zero interest in 5G at this point, and although I’m sure an A14X chip will be a real boost in processor speed, my A12X isn’t really showing signs that it can’t do what I need it to.

I’m not sure I’ll keep it as long as I’ve been using my early 2013 iMac (21.5”) or early 2013 rMBP 15” (maxed out version), both of which continue to perform without issue - my wife uses the rMBP for her work currently. But I can definitely see keeping the 12.9” iPad Pro for 4-5 years before upgrading, especially if the new Magic Keyboard case is as good as I think it will be.

Definitely agree with this: my 2018 has a giant crack across the screen but otherwise works like a champ. 5G is pointless as I only use it at home, I don't have a Wi-Fi 6 router yet, and a processor bump doesn't really matter as I have my MBP for my audio/video work. Besides improving the display and battery life, there isn't much I want in a new model at this point.

Once the 11 inch Pro gets updated with Micro LED, the A14 and 5G I guess I'll upgrade again. That's assuming I still have a job or the economy hasn't completely imploded by then.

The 2020 iPad Pro is a joke if you already have the 2018. In real world usage, it’s just a poor money grab with no real innovation.
Apple may use portrait for the rear cameras as a selling point on iPad OS 14 but that’s minimal.
I sent my damaged units back and kept my 2018 models after seeing it in person. Truly a waste of update if you asked me.

I hope they at least put 8gb ram ffs. It will be 2021 and still 6gb ram when more pro apps are coming.
Yes, but I think 8 is more like it. It’s the base for laptops and desktops and i would future proof it a little better.

The rumors have also said that the A14X-based iPad Pro would have a three camera array along with the LiDAR. It makes absolute sense that Apple would push this release to 2021, either March or June. My money is on June. I also expect Apple is working on a larger than 12.9” iPad Pro that is going to start at $1299-$1499. Something between 15”-16” is very plausible. Everyone holding off should be prepared to pack it in for a long wait.

Meanwhile, OLED panel is already mature enough to be used in Samsung Galaxy tablet and Apple is just using an inferior substitute that needs to be delayed.
no, for such big displays, Oled with promotion isnt ready....and apple will not go Oled if they can put promotion into it
We just barely have 120hz into oled for 6-7"

this would probably be the iPad Pro Max to coexist together with the just released iPad Pro. This way, they do not have to lower the price of the current one. its the strategy they have been doing for years now. Release something "more Pro" with a higher price point so you do not have to lower the price on something already released instead of the new product just succeeding the existing one for the same price

When I saw the idea proposed that there would be two regular releases in a year, I knew it didn't make sense.

This seems much more plausible something more pro than pro. I'd guess the goal was to have it ready for the holiday season, but they couldn't make it.

Honestly the prices are insane for having to buy every 3 years the whole lineup new. I would expect a cheap upgrade plan.

with luck you can get good bucks for your old device, but with apples inferior built quality the last years, it’s harder and harder. If you are not lucky your 3 year old device is worth 100 bucks, and you paid around 100.
You realize that you don’t have to upgrade every single time. I know people still rocking iPads from 2014 and 2015 that works perfectly fine, and they still get updates. Apple has to release updates to keep up-to-date with technology. That doesn’t mean you have to buy everyone. They update the MacBook Pro every 9 to 10 months or so, and no one really complains about that.

Allow me to put it to you like this. I imagine that you’re a brand new customer, and you go in to get an iPad Pro, because you really want one, and when you ask them what’s the most up-to-date model, they say, one from two years ago. Doesn’t exactly look good. No if they say, it was just updated last month, that’s going to entice more people to buy it. It doesn’t matter how small the update is, at least it’s a newer modeAllow me to put it to you like this. Personally I never saw a spring AND fall release of the iPad Pro making sense and coming to fruition, even without the virus. One year timeline makes more sense, especially considering how far of everyone else they already are with their tablet hardware. Focus on the software, iPhone 12, and a new iMac! :)

That's the problem with using a phone OS on a tablet. If you have an iPhone, then you already have an iPad ahahahaha.

Do you even own an iPad?

Ever heard iPadOS? Does your iPhone do split screen? Slide over? Sidecar? Dock? Support Pencil / mouse / trackpad?

There are many pro apps that are made only for iPad and not available on iPhone

To name a few:

Affinity Designer
Affinity Photos
Shapr 3D
Pixelmator Photo
Adobe Photoshop for iPad
Adobe Lightroom for iPad

Many other offers universal app that runs on iPhone too but with limited functionality.

No. Having an iPhone doesn’t mean you already have an iPad.
