I don't know about everyone else, but I found this movie to be incredibly boring. Visually stunning, but mentally B-O-R-I-N-G.

Never heard of this movie that I can remember of anyway. I did download it this morning though when it popped up for free.

Never heard of this movie. Is it any good?

a movie featuring a kid as the main character, thanks but no thanks

I saw it on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say though I don't usually like such movies, this one is definitely a good movie to watch. Don't expect life-changing heavy plots, but don't expect useless fluff either. The movie is based on an old novel of the same name.

Without giving away too much, it also pays homage to what's probably the world's first pattern 'computers' in the 1800s (something a lot of people missed). Definitely enjoyed it

Made the mistake of actually buying this movie when it was on sale for $6.99 a couple months ago. My kids hated it. Truth is Scorsese is the most overrated director of the last 50 years.

You're both right and wrong with that statement. Right about the film, wrong about Scorsese. Though The Departed was a bit overrated.

...Truth is Scorsese is the most overrated director of the last 50 years.

And so no, I am not wrong. I have studied film, written critically about film, have a film degree, and know a lot about the entire history of film. And Scorsese is OVERRATEED!

Not whining about free stuff, just bashing a director who needs to stop making movies.

Looks like someone is Jelly

And needs to go to Jelly School!

And how can someone be right or wrong about an opinion about films? Art is subjective.

I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters in 3D

The 3D version was AMAZING, one of the best 3D movies ever made because of how the 3D was utilized exceptionally.

I enjoyed it more than Avatar.

I really can't speak on the 2D version but I was really blown away at how well and competently the 3D was used in this film.

You are clinically insane

I think you misunderstand. I do like many of his films, but feel they fall short of their potential, especially considering the "pedigree" of the director. I think he makes good movies, but often feel something is lacking. Goodfellas for instance is a great movie, but unfortunately Ray Liota in my opinion is a bad casting. You may not be able to separate your love for that movie from his character, but he is a sub-par actor, and that movie could have been much better with someone else. Aviator is a very good movie. Departed, Shutter Island, and even to some degree, Gangs of New York, all could have been better. Cape Fear for the time I guess was thrilling, shocking, etc., but no sorry, it isn't that good.

Like I was saying I think you misunderstand, Scorsese is a good director, but his "critical acclaim" puts him on some pedestal I don't believe he is deserving of. And such by my definition is "overrated." Now, I was kidding, mostly about the stop making movies crack, but I do believe there is an unfair expectation of his work that he simply isn't able to live up to more often than not.

I have changed my reply. You are not insane, just jelly.

*for the record for those who saw your post, "Overrated" is not the same thing as "bad". He is one of those directors that automatically get praise, so I can see your point.

That is why the following movies suck:

Stand by Me
The Goonies
E.T the Extra-Terrestrial
The Wizard of Oz
Pan's Labyrinth
Life of Pi
Winter's Bone
Kick Ass
Let the Right One In
Any Harry Potter film

I'm not bashing what has been chosen to be free. I have downloaded the free things as I like them and not as I don't or in this case already have. If I had not already bought this movie I would have taken the free download, only to watch it later and then find out how bad it was. And in actuality I wanted to like this movie and did some parts, but as usual Scorsese takes what could have been a good movie and ruins it.

And so no, I am not wrong. I have studied film, written critically about film, have a film degree, and know a lot about the entire history of film. And Scorsese is OVERRATEED!

Point me to the movie you've made, please kind sir.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic (I like to think of this as merely educational) but insanity is a legal definition, not clinical; stating "clinically insane" doesn't make sense. Yes, it's a common colloquialism but similar to trying to use the term "ague" as a diagnosis or something like "Swamp sickness". Insanity makes a nice quip or soundbite but it has no meaning outside legal applications (in the U.S.).

:)
