The missing part

The thing that surprises me about this rumor is that a 15" MBA isn't part of it.

It will surprise me tremendously if next year Apple is producing an 11", 12" and 13" MBA.

If the 12" is real, I think next years line up is a 12" & 15" MBA, and I'm frankly WAY more freaking excited about a 15" MBA than a 12". That would mean I could finally step down from MBPs.

Sounds nice although what would be the point? The 15" rMBP is already thin enough. A 15" Air would give people a more affordable price point but I think it would also kill the sales of the former. Guess we'll wait and see though.

nah, its not. the 13 air and 13 MBP have a half Pound difference in favor of the MBA. thats slightly less I believe than what the N7 2013 (WiFi) weighs.

If this is true, I don't expect Apple to make any other Air models beyond a year or so. By 2015 the 12-inch Retina Air will be the only Air model available. Kind of worried if they make it with ARM as the Samsung Chromebooks are ARM and all the reviews say that they are significantly underpowered. Not convinced at all that ARM is ready to be used in a laptop though if they can get an iPad level display (2034x1500) in 12 inch, the pip would obviously be less than the iPad but still quite good for a laptop.

off the topic maybe but: I receive today my MB Air 13 inch today $945
what a bad! decision I made... without retina this thing is so ugly, I feel that I have a toy... I compare this with my sister macbook pro 13 retina and the weight difference with the Air is not too much... more light weigth but not as I was think... so for $280! more I could have a macbook 13 with retina and more speed :(

a 12 inch retina air would be the perfect on the go, hipster coffeehouse machine :)

i'd even consider getting rid of my rmbp 15.

would it be ever possible to put the graphical processing power in the screen and not the laptop?I think I would be in heaven. I mean as in an extra screen you can buy and put at home for graphic intense stuff, but you can leave your house with a superthin laptop for moderate stuff on the go?

So you want worse performance especially when asking the GPU to push ~4x number of pixels with a Retina Display? I'm not sure you understand what you are asking for.

So the internals being fried is a better alternative?

Not if it is using a Broadwell chip instead of a Haswell. The "delay" in the introduction of the 12" model likely is a direct result of Broadwell's delays. Since the move to the 14nm process should reduce power consumption and improve thermals it may well not need a fan.

circular reasoning, brilliant.

64 bit desktop class ARM-powered *apple* laptop

Guys...

assuming this laptop does come to fruition, it will either replace the 11 and 13 inch airs.... or....

will utilize the "desktop class" 64 bit ARM processors apple talks so highly of. They seem very convinced the iPhone could power a desktop. I think it's only a matter of time before EVERYONE tries to make their own super cool 64 bit ARM-powered laptops.

To the people who keep referencing Chrome books. Yes, they suck. 1. They run on Chrome OS which is plain and simply not as efficient as... anything. a bit like saying my new alienware doesn't hit 60 fps on some flash animation. Compare it to something that doesn't suck. 2. The apple ARM-powered laptops would probably use a high end ARM chip. Apple won't charge just $200 for these things. The Chrome books are meant to be cheap junk, and they succeed beautifully.

11,12,13??? I think unlucky 13 is going to be dropped

Give me the spec of a maxed out MBPro and make it as thin as the air:eek: that will be my next purchase!!

I'm waiting on the new rMBP that will be my upgrade of my current MBP :) I almost pulled the trigger on last years mid level model but decided to wait one more year.

This seems like apples answer to the chromebook. My guess is it runs ios and apple will try to price it cheap, around $599.

Think about apples recent push for productivity and iCloud support. A device running off of arm with 2gb ram and 16gb ssd makes perfect sense. It'll be touch screen and runs ios so no need for a right click.

It'll be called the ipad pro

"The 12-inch MacBook Air [...] will be similar to its existing counterparts using an unibody aluminum chassis, the sources detailed. [It might] feature a Retina display."

Cannot innovate anymore my ass! Take this Surface Pro!! 3. :D

Serioulsy, I do not trust Digitimes at all, but if Apple is actually releasing a new MBA I would expect something else than changing the color of the PCB and puting a high DPI display. That sounds a little bit like the Apple before Steve returned from Next. And NO, I am not saying Apple is doomed, ok?

Maybe they should make the display 3:2 ration and multitouch, with a pressure sensitive pen, and also make the keyboard detachable... :p

Please no fan. Ever since I updated to Mavericks my 2011 MBA sounds like a fighter jet.

That's strange. Mavericks added new power saving features which *should* mean your MBA runs cooler, not hotter. My old 2010 13" gets noticeably better battery life on Mavericks than it did with Mountain Lion, and the fan hardly ever comes on.
