I think people confuse the "Air" designation as meaning weight.

I think "Air" is meant as a stripped-down version– no dedicated graphics, fewer ports, etc. Similar to the impression you get from the word "Lite" instead of the full version.

13" MacBook Pro doesn't have dedicated graphics.

If you can't live with just one USB port - this isn't for you, stop bitching about it. There are plenty of people for whom this notebook is a good fit, though. Why shouldn't those people get what they want? The Air exists for those who want full ports and a cheaper price. The Pro exists for people who want more fully featured and faster.
I wasn't bitching. What part of my comment made you even think that?

Similar to what? That is a lot thicker and heavier than a macbook.

Never mind. Lets agree to disagree.

Sorry, t'was a general statement toward those who are bitching about the lack of ports, not directed at you specifically. The only part of my post that was a reply to you was the mention and comparison to the old Sony X505. Then I went on a general tangent.

Alright, thanks. Yeah, I miss VAIO. Too bad Sony got out of the computer market. I was a huge fan of the Z series and was an active member of notebook.review.com forums, which I don't participate anymore.

I didn't mean to react. Sometimes, responses can be mislead to define something different without getting clarification. :D

I think this is a glimpse in the future. They've done it before - with the MBA, with the ditching of optical drives, then hard drives... even with the iPhone and ditching the keyboard.

Each time, it's a big compromise, and people are (rightfully) upset, because the rest of the industry isn't ready and Apple doesn't care (I'm not talking about competitors, but peripherals and accessories). They force it, taking the risk to upset their user base.

And it (usually) ends up working. For Apple as a company, and for the whole electronics industry. After a few years, the landscape has changed and most have followed their footsteps.

Sometimes it doesn't work (Thunderbolt is still very much an Apple thing and will die an Apple thing). But most of the times, it does, even if it's painful at first.

That's how they are leading.

In a few weeks, we'll see the first USB-C accessories. In a few months, a lot of them. In a few years, USB-C will be the main technology. It's past time we moved beyond the classic USB. It's unfortunate it takes one company to have the balls to do it alone.

So yeah, the first couple of years, the rMB will feel like an alien, and people who actually need peripherals will have to pass on it, or suffer. I still think it'll ultimately be a good thing.
Is the super under powered CPU also a glimpse of the future? because it's performance is apparently comparrable to 2011 Macbook Air and iPad 2.
so in you future, laptops will have downgraded performance and cpu to 4 years back, but with increased price tag.
The new Macbook is just a glorified netbook.it is a wasted opportunity.

I just cant believe it doesn't have RS-232, to say nothing of IEEE 1394. Or at least 3.5" Floppy (or better, a Zip drive). Ridiculous how Apple refuses to continue embracing these tried and true standards, and "innovates" new products instead which utilize all this newfangled wireless crap.
It's like my wife's new car. Where the CRAP is the 8-Track and the gall-durn radio knobs? It doesn't even have a friggin gas cap! And don't even get me started on the clutch pedal.

You should send a letter to the Board. Maybe they'll fire Cook and hire you to run the company, since your insights on the company and the business are so much better informed that Apple's management.
