Yeah it also digs into my fingers and they eventually start to cramp up. I think it’s too thin to hold it comfortable. Got a case now and it’s much better
Yes I think that’s my experience using an ultra thin case similar to peel and totallee. The apple leather case add some much needed heft to make if comfortable. I’m preferring use of a case this time.

Case-less, use one or two handed, feels like coming home. I never liked the rounded edges which felt like I needed to grow the phone harder. I am considering using the bumper that I got from eBay though.
Can you links of the bumper. I really like apple bumper cases on the 4 because of the rubber/plastic material.

I never really grip it with my palm anyway, I always have it rest on my pinky with my other three fingers supporting the back. I did that with the XS Max too.

I used it about half the day in a case and half without a case. The sides are starting to dig into my hands. Not sure how it will fair over time! Or do I just have sissy hands?!
I don't like cases and had no intent on using one on the Pro Max. However, I agree that this is uncomfortable to hold, weight and hard edges being the reasons.

I've always been a caseless user but have to say the Apple leather case makes the device 100% more comfortable as it softens the edges.

I think you’ll get used to it, but then again you might have sissy hands. Lol. Ultimately I think you’ll be fine after a day or so.

No issues yet, feels nice in the hand. I was comparing it to my iPhone 11 Pro Max for reach difference and the 12 PM definitely is wider and requires more reach. Better using it with 2 hands and using 1 hand only for scrolling to prevent hand fatigue or squeezing to tight. This feels like the first phone I am confident using caseless in years.

I already gave up on my bumper case. Didn't like the bottom "lips" for the camera bump and it offered no protection for the front either, and felt awkward to hold.

I am loving the Apple Leather case though... softens the edges a little. I might end up going caseless at home and leather case going out.
Agree. I like how the Apple leather case feels.

Lol I am using a thin case, basically for scratch protection and hmmmm it’s not comfortable like the xs. I’ll get used to it I’m sure. We have extended return period so it’ll be fine.
So if we just purchased it (delivered today) does it fall under the holiday return time/ policy?

Use two hands. That's how I do it. No issues. I only use one hand on the go for quick actions.
I am actually leaning towards keeping it at this point because I love the display and I’m slowly but surely getting used to it,... As far as holding it with two hands, that works fine when seated, standing, etc., but laying down in bed (back propped like 45 degrees on pillow) is a little hit or miss. Works so-so propped on my belly though.

Haha sorry I know I’m over the top overthinking about the ergonomics of this thing, but phones are such a big part of our lives these days it’s like choosing a prosthesis or something.

The flat edges will take some time to get used to, after so many years of rounded edges, but I think the weight is also very noticeable. I'm still going caseless though.

Haha ! Well
It’s basically preventing me from buying an iPad too. Maybe add a mini if need it in the future?

The Pro Max is making me think the other way - why am I trying to adapt to such a large and heavy phone when I should just an ipad to complement a smaller iphone? Tough choice as its amazing to use and clearly the jewel in the 12 series.

Gah stop with that perfectly logical line of reasoning. Had almost made up my mind to keep the Max... I had the XS Max and for some reason it wasn’t such a hard decision to keep that one. I think the boxy edges (and the slightly larger size) definitely make it less ergonomic... for me at least.

Now I’m contemplating one of those little pop-up knobs that goes on the back. My problem boils down to pinky pain. Whether I try to hold with one hand supported by pinky and scroll with the other, or hold with two hands with both pinkies under the base, the dang edges dig in (this is with silicone case). If I try to hold two handed without pinkies under the base, the phone slides down. Maybe one of those pop-up knobs would give me a way to take weight off the pinkies.

(This sounds so ridiculous outside the context of these forums lol...)

someone needs to make a MagSafe pop socket!!
