Hi, wanted to share my case. I had an iPhone X and my partner an iPhone XS with no issues. We moved in October to iPhone 12 Pro and both are facing the “closing app stuttering” since day one.
Only thing I didn’t try is to reset as a new phone but I found that disabling the “require attention for Face ID” option, has slightly improved the situation. Not completely tho, but less annoying.
I guess that option uses some memory that is now free?

Probably not high on their priority list, or at least lower than other issues. They have to pick and choose by severity & priority.
This is one of those obvious flaws that users see on a daily basis that you can’t avoid. It should be a high priority. They have the resources to fix this in a timely manner.

Just got a replacement 12 Pro from the Apple store and while the problem is reduced, definitely still there. My last version was practically unusable with how often the problem came up. Happening still on this new phone but definitely less. Probably will increase until I do a restart. Running 14.4.

I’m getting a replacement for my iPhone 12 Pro (yellow tint screen) but hoping this issue of stuttering might be resolved.
Chances are it’s software related though...

This is 100% software related issue. Most probably some problem with caching images that appear in multitasking view.

Quickest way to reproduce the issue is with Watch app. If you don’t use it for a while and then you open it, either scrolling down or closing, it will suffer of stutterings

Ok , Apple changed my 12 pro max with a new one! Bad news for all , the stuttering still there ! It's not a hardware problem! The only thing that they say is to wait! Bad really bad!

We know it’s not a hardware problem. Everyone knows it’s not a hardware problem. What we don’t know is why Apple haven’t got their finger out and sorted it...To me, it’s further evidence of declining software quality.

Why do people rave about Craig Federighi? The last few OS versions have been riddled with annoying bugs that take forever to fix. Was it this bad with his predecessor?

Go back and look at the forum pages about previous iOS versions - plenty of annoying bugs in them. It's the nature of of software development and defect density rates.

Hi guys, I’ve been having the stuttering issue which is annoying. I changed my wallpaper to the default one and it disappeared! Can anyone else try that and let me know?

now I have tried them all, DFU restores with and without backup ... but the problem is always there. Open practice with apple support but they don't give me an answer. it is since ios 14.2 that i have this stuttering problem

Some good news, I'm much closer to the developers themselves now and have been escalated enough that I'm providing logs and tracing directly. Even have some of the Apple guys themselves saying they've noticed the stutter on their own devices.

Definite movement now. Something I couldn't say for months until now.
Thank you! is there any good news since then?

Go to accessibility and turn on reduce motion and the stuttering is gone. It’s not as pretty but works for now.

Never mind it just started happening again, lol this is annoying
I don’t know how more people aren’t furious by this. Across the board, my 2020 iPad Pro, iPhone 12 and Apple Watch series 5 have random stuttering and animations that are VERY choppy. This isn’t some weird coincidence. Whatever code they have in the latest software is causing this. People have proven this by setting up an entirely new device or getting replacements from apple. THIS IS SOFTWARE. The worst offenders are safari and apple news on iPad too. It’s virtually unusable while scrolling apple news like it’s CONSTANTLY STUTTERING AND PAUSING while trying to load articles on the main page. Apple Music is pretty bad too at times. I’m paying for these services. They need to be as flawless as possible

This started in 14.2 and continues to the latest 14.5 beta. Going forward I will not be updating my devices anymore until waiting at least a week to see what issues pop up. We’ve been getting burned like crazy the last couple years. New features mean nothing if the overall software runs like garbage. Add to that the bragging about speeds, feeds and processor nanometers MEAN NOTHING if the software runs like garbage.

I can pull out an iPod touch from ten years ago running iOS 6 and it runs smoother than any device I have on iOS 14!
