Lots of people don’t see it cause they are blind or just don’t care that’s why this isn’t a bigger issue. I’m sure it happens to a lot of people out there, just wish it would get fixed but I don’t have my hopes up.

Some people don't see it because it's not universal in terms of severity. I very rarely see it on my heavily-used 12 PM and I'm not blind.

I have seen multiple people that I show them a stutter or slow down right in front of my eyes and they can’t see it or can’t tell. I think that’s what happening here. Probably they can’t tell but that doesn’t change the fact it’s there. The fact that you so quote see it “rarely” but see it nonetheless doesn’t mean it’s not a widespread issue. I have 3 devices and they all show the stutter, I doubt it’s not very common issue.

I wasn't implying that it's not common but that the severity appears to vary a lot as does the perception of the issue even when occurring, e.g. the multiple people you showed who couldn't even tell it was happening. I have 4 devices and only see it rarely on the one (rarely: I saw it once last week and not since). If I had the problem has shown in the recent video posted I would indeed be very unhappy.

honestly thats why most bugs don’t get fixed. People just simply don’t notice nor care that much. I guess those of us who do wish to hold apple accountable considering how much damn money they both charge and have. For example, if my iPad Pro with the heavily marketed Pro Motion technology scrolls at 20-30 FPS most of the time that’s flat out false advertising on a device that costs $800-1200.

But then again there’s another likely reason is that iOS is so complicated now is impossible to to track down the many dozens of bugs over a billion lines of code

In their thread on this issue -

https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/667214

they are reaching out for logs and other available data and pointing to installation of a debug profile to support collection of further data - this should help in tracking it down. The last s/w project I was responsible for had 13 million lines of code that we developed and yes, tracking down a bug can be horrendously difficult but it's not impossible. It can be difficult to develop a solution that does not have unintended side effects when you have deployments (users devices and installed applications) with an infinite variety of use cases as there is with iOS.

I don’t know how more people aren’t furious by this. Across the board, my 2020 iPad Pro, iPhone 12 and Apple Watch series 5 have random stuttering and animations that are VERY choppy. This isn’t some weird coincidence. Whatever code they have in the latest software is causing this. People have proven this by setting up an entirely new device or getting replacements from apple. THIS IS SOFTWARE. The worst offenders are safari and apple news on iPad too. It’s virtually unusable while scrolling apple news like it’s CONSTANTLY STUTTERING AND PAUSING while trying to load articles on the main page. Apple Music is pretty bad too at times. I’m paying for these services. They need to be as flawless as possible

This started in 14.2 and continues to the latest 14.5 beta. Going forward I will not be updating my devices anymore until waiting at least a week to see what issues pop up. We’ve been getting burned like crazy the last couple years. New features mean nothing if the overall software runs like garbage. Add to that the bragging about speeds, feeds and processor nanometers MEAN NOTHING if the software runs like garbage.

I can pull out an iPod touch from ten years ago running iOS 6 and it runs smoother than any device I have on iOS 14!
We should show our rage to Apple instead of complaining to each other.

That’s what part of the rage is about. Tons of bug reports have been submitted to Apple for months regarding the swiping gesture. Ever since I got my iPhone 12 in October it never quite felt as smooth as my XR on iOS 13. Many other people feel the same way. These are expensive new devices and it used to be the GOLD STANDARD of Apple to make sure the latest hardware runs near flawless upon release. On top of that they spent a obnoxious amount of time talking about how powerful the A14 is.

Let’s cross our fingers but sadly this is the new apple the last few years. We are lucky if we get a stable, smooth iOS by halfway through the year only for this whole process to repeat again once iOS 15,16,17, etc. comes in the fall full of bugs.

Apple did attempt a “snow leopard” year for iOS back when iOS 9 came out. They bragged about focusing on speed and stability. Only to some success. I remember some weird issues back then as well. But I think it was because iOS 8 was so screwy they HAD to just pause on features. Personally I think iOS 12 was the most stable release they put out in a decade from a perspective of overall stability and smoothness.

This...unfortunately.

I understand that their software has more features which makes bugs more frequent but not even basic stuff works well and consistently with Apple anymore.

That’s why we need to take action. Apple won’t change until they’re taking more actual consequences of their disability in software developing.

No stutters yet in latest beta. Certainly not holding my breath but will update here first time I see one.
Same. Usually I get a hint or 2 after a couple of hours. Lets knock on wood. The raised back issue is supposedly fixed and I can easily unlock the phone with a mask on with the Apple Watch. If this issue is fixed this phone will be almost perfect now. Fingers crossed.

Amen. I usually have a stutter by now too.

I’m really trying not to get excited… I’ve been hurt so many times. But I’m.. optimistic.

Guys… I don’t know. This one might be different. I have been really trying to reproduce the stutter. I was able to do it easily by now in other beta builds. I don’t want to start the celebration yet but we should have the champagne ready.

I’m in the same boat. Usually I would have a hint of stutter by now. Usually it’s worse in the am for me. If I don’t have it tomorrow am I’m considering it fixed and having a huge party. Lol.

I too notice stutter in general is worse in the morning than at night. WEIRD!

Yeah, I think it just needs time to verify. I tried an experiment the other night. I did a reboot right before bed and didn't open any apps, just plugged it into the charger and went to bed. Previous theories were the stutters and broken swipes happen when the system is low on memory. When I woke up in the morning, I started using it and immediately had stutters and a few broken swipes. So if it is memory related, it may not necessarily be caused by opening and backgrounding apps.

I also found out that it was RAM that caused the stutter, which I had noticed before. The IP12PM itself has 6GB of RAM, but why does it stutter? I've always felt there was a problem with RAM allocation.
