Anyone else here gonna be *really* pissed if Apple releases a new phone within 8 months of the 4S release? With already all the stir up of an iPhone 5 and its inclusion in a .plist file recently I'm actually hoping it doesn't get released. Don't dick me over, Apple.

No, I wouldn't be pissed. Are you expecting the progression of consumer devices to be put on hold simply because you don't want to feel like your device hasn't been king for long enough? Apple releasing a new phone isn't dicking you over. It's a business decision.
I bought the 4S expecting something bigger, better, and badder to be out from Apple by the mid to late summer of 2012. At the latest.
I also bought the 4S because I believed that I would enjoy this device not because I wanted to be able to say that my phone is in the top whatever number of phones available on the consumer market for x amount of time.

I wasn't dumb. & stuck with my ip4, cause the 4s is a terrible upgrade so I won't be crying like all the 4s owners later 🙂
Of course Apple is already developing its next gen products... would you expect them to be sitting around right now and develop the new product only few months before the release?
If you are like me, I get a new iPhone every year. So, if it does come out in July, I would still be happy. I would just sell my iPhone to Gazelle.com and use that money to pay the early upgrade charge ($250). So, who cares when it comes out! Most who got the 4s would renew in 2013, not 2012 except for me!🙂
Ive only just got my 4S and i would be absolutely over the moon if the 5 was released in the 3rd or 4th quarter next year, absolutely buzzing !
I love seeing the new products from apple, why be bitter and jealous? Just admire the advancement.
Personally i pay more for a contract that ensures annual upgrades, which works to my benefit anyway cause when i get my upgrade the previous phone is still worth £300 + which then pays for half of my contract anyway.

If they did release a phone within 8 months, how is that a bad thing? Is it that you just want to have the "newest" device for at least a year? Even if they did do that, the 4s still is a capable device, and there's no rule that says you must buy the new model when it releases, though if you do, you can always sell the 4s and recoup a large portion of what a new one would cost. I don't see the problem here.
The fact that they are working on it doesn't mean that they're going to release it in a few months. They will probably stick to the new schedule (September-October). If they felt like it they could release it on July. Is there any problem with that? You'll have enjoyed your device for almost a year then.
And you can always sell it and buy the new one if you want.

Apple used to be on a June mark, but the CDMA iPhone 4 and new agreements with CDMA carriers sort of threw it off. The iPhone 5, from all accounts, was in the pipe to be released now but had some issues that Jobs wasn't happy with and it got pushed back.
Would I be a little disappointed... sure. Would I be mad? No.
I mean they'll probably be going back to a standardized release schedule as they have in the past soon. On top of that if you look at the iPhone competitors they've been doing new phones every freaking week almost so you buy the latest and 15 days later the new phone is announced.

8 months is actually pretty long by tech standards.
I got a 4s because I had been using a nokia5800 for 2 years now and had originally been holding out for the "promised" ip5, but when the cake turned out to be a lie, I finally caved in...😛
On the plus side, look on the bright side. You will be eligible for recontracting when the next ip 5s or ip6 does come out in 2 years time...😀

I'm confused. When did Apple ever mention anything about an iPhone 5? They never lied to anyone, because they never said a word about the ip5. If you want to be mad about it, get mad at the media and forums such as this one that throw out baseless rumors based on their own wishes that have no basis in reality. Maybe if people would simply wait until Apple actually stated what the next product is, people wouldn't be so disappointed.

I like the have the lasted and greatest, but I love the 4S. If they do release a 5 I hope it's a bigger phone, then I will be happy to know I didn't wait for something I don't want.
I expect the iphone 5 to be out on their normal schedule around June timeframe. They couldn't release it like someone said due to manufacturing issues so they released the 4s only. All those suckers are now stuck with that model phone while the smart ones are waiting for the 5 to come out early-mid next year. 🙂

If you hadn't realised that the iPhone 5 would be out before the usual release cycle then you're stupid. It's pretty obvious the 5 was almost ready when the iPhone 4Siri launched, hell most of us thought the 5 was coming when the 4S came, so I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see it around the March timeframe.
I hope it comes out even sooner, just to piss off the iSheep that bought a pointless upgrade and reinforced Apple's belief they can produce any old ***** and people will still buy it.

Apple is going to have to REALLY step up the technology on it's next phone. I do not see how they can keep the same form factor and compete!
Apple no longer enjoys the "top of the hill" by itself. They got company. Unless you just can't live without iOS, there are some great options out there with more on the way!
What a challenge it must be to start designing a phone that will not be obsolete when it is introduced sometime next year!

this is why I always buy my iphones contract free. So that I can get the newest one when it comes out. Now my body is ready.

I wouldn't be pissed at all; Especially on the grounds that in those 8 months, 18 Android devices will ship. 😛😉
I think the only real problem here is that the phone is subsidized. Plain and simple.
Frankly if an iPod Touch @ 32GB is 299.99, then the addition of the Cell radio shouldnt jump the cost to $599.
If an iPhone was treated like any other apple product then we would all welcome a newer version within 8 months, but due to the "contract" style of the Cellular business model, we are trapped without spending $600+ to get a new device.
Think of it in terms of the iPad. 16GB is $499 wifi only. If i want 3G also, its an additional $129. So for $629 I have an iPad with 3G and it isnt subsidized. So why can't an iPod Touch 32GB be $299 and an iPhone 32GB for $429 non-subsidized. Remove the providers altogether like they did with the iPad. Just buy it and add it to your account. I still have a 2 Year Contract with my provider and they can still charge me an ETF if i cancel before hand, just like DirecTV or Centurylink does without blaming it on the cost of the equipment, because i dont get to keep my Satellite receiver or Cable Modem, they still need to be returned.
Apple has the right idea with the 4S having one sku operate on any available supported provider. Now they just need to break away from Provider pricing and sell the phone as they do any iPod or iPad.
Clearly the $599 sticker price is mearly an inflated scare tactic to get people to sign contracts. It has nothing to do with any reasonable percentage based markup over cost. Its even far beyond the "Apple Tax".
When the first iPhone came out. I paid $599 for mine but it was unsubsidized. Then when they started selling Refurbs they were offering them for $199-$399 unsubsidized. A Perfect Price point if you ask me.
People balk at the idea of spending $300+ for an phone because all you see is $.99 and free offers for crap phones. But if you are willing to spend $199 or more on an iPod, why would you flip out about paying that for a phone that has the same features as the ipod? After all, isnt that essentially the business model of the iPad with the 3G only adding $129 to the cost of the device.
I just dont see why it has come to be that a Cell phone is this extremely special device that needs to cost half a grand.
