Not per my contact in Austin, TX at Apple. They said NORMAL CYCLE, which is June timeframe.

my contact, says your contact doesn't know anything. In fact my contact has never heard of your contact, and when I contact, my contact I'll let you know what he says regarding contacts in general....

You would prefer a stagnant company that holds back product enhancements rather than one that releases a device when its ready?

I have (and love) a 4S. But if the next gen is better then I'd like the OPTION of upgrading to it if I wanted to based on my timeline rather than some marketing execs idea of when a finished product is most strategically going to draw the biggest crowds.

I don't remember stating I want Apple to be stagnant. All previous significant iPhone upgrades have come about a year apart from one another. I see such a potentially quick upgrade as abusing the consumer. For most of us its only 1 phone per 2 years, and a switch back to early summer releases would perpetually screw over people who just used their carrier upgrades on the 4S. As a buyer I don't like to be taken advantage of and such a soon release of the next gen would also suggest the 4S was half-assed.

Great another idiot.

Anyone else here gonna be *really* pissed if Apple releases a new phone within 8 months of the 4S release? With already all the stir up of an iPhone 5 and its inclusion in a .plist file recently I'm actually hoping it doesn't get released. Don't dick me over, Apple.
It'd serve people right for paying $800 for a mid-cycle phone.

You might want to look in the mirror.

The fifth generation iPhone, this "iPhone 5", has already been released. It's called the iPhone 4S.

Don't believe me?

Apple iPhone (also known as iPhone 2G) = first generation
iPhone 3G = 2nd generation
iPhone 3GS = 3rd generation
iPhone 4 = 4th generatoin
iPhone 4S = 5th generation
"iPhone 6"/"iPhone 5"/"iPhone 4G"/"iPhone LTE" = 6th generation

I said the iPhone5 will be released in October 2012, never said anything about generation. The name of the next phone that Apple releases will be iPhone5.

But you are the one that doesn't work for Apple making facts with no proof. When I actually know someone at Apple that told me above and others are in agreement with what I said except you. You are lost in your own world.

It's still possible that it might be released in the summer or spring as a special iPhone for Steve Job's birthday.

If your "friend that works at Apple" told you for every iPod nano you buy you get a free MacBook Air, would you believe him?? You probably would.

BooHoo!!! How do you think Android people feel? They come out with a new phone every couple of weeks that's alittle better then the next. I won't be pissed that's for sure. I upgraded to the 4S and will be getting the next iPhone.

Sorry I fail to believe you have "contacts" honestly, but I guess if you want a big macrumors weiner to fling around like you're cool then go for it!

Android users aren't slaves to consumerism. When was the last time you saw a line out the door for an Android product on the first day of release? I certainly can't remember any time that's happened.

And it's not because there's less demand for Android products either since Android controls 42.8% of the smartphone market (compared to Apple's 28.3%.)

Sure there are some Android fanboys, but the overwhelming majority are just normal consumers who aren't bothered by having the newest device on release day to show off for the pure sake of vanity.

I happen to own and enjoy both iOS and Android...

How do I feel when new Android versions and phones come out? I am elated!

Google is really smart for licensing Android out to the various handset makers.

Competition is the best thing ever. To have choices and different versions is wonderful.

While Apple has their pattern, so does Google and I like them both.

This is the plan:

The iPhone 6 is set to be release in Summer 2012; however, around March something will delay it and it will be released in Fall 2012.

You heard it here first. Lol.

This is absolutely every single booth at NAB.
It's like every company is run by people just as inefficient and scatterbrained as...
well, me.

Well, by that logic, Apple is no better than Android then, no? The point is with android devices you know they are a dime a dozen and with HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc. obviously there are going to be multiple devices on the market with more frequent releases. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't want the latest and greatest for "vanity's sake". I just want faith in a manufacturer that they won't screw over people that chose to purchase one of their products.

Apple is going to have to REALLY step up the technology on it's next phone. I do not see how they can keep the same form factor and compete!

Apple no longer enjoys the "top of the hill" by itself. They got company. Unless you just can't live without iOS, there are some great options out there with more on the way!

What a challenge it must be to start designing a phone that will not be obsolete when it is introduced sometime next year!

The pressure is on!

People said this when the iPhone4S came out. It wasn't the fastest phone on the market and it only had minimal upgrades to the 4 and people came out in droves and bought it. Apple can't even keep up with the demand.

Apple doesn't have to do anything. Right now people will buy it just because it's an iPhone. Not saying that's the right thing to do but it's the truth.

To be honest I think its almost a certainty that the next iPhone will be announced at the WWDC 2012, for release towards the end of June... we have to remember that the 4S (possibly the 5) was delayed for various reasons, but was too much of a $$ earner to scrap it altogether, plus with all the expectations around the net of a new iPhone in 2011 they had to come up with something because otherwise people ending their contracts etc... might have ended up ditching the iPhone for 2011 and opting for another handset.

Therefore to get back on track with Apple's normal time schedule it would have to be released end of June early July 2012.

this is why I always buy my iphones contract free. So that I can get the newest one when it comes out. Now my body is ready.:apple:

I really hope you don't live in the US, because if you do, you are not the brightest bulb in the room.

He was replying to the typo. The person said iPhone 6 will be released next year.

minus me all you want, but the difference experienced by most users between the 4 and 4s is minimal. 2x faster processing and 7x faster graphics..to actually experience the difference you need to be doing more than texting, surfing, listening to music, and watching video. even most of the games do not stress out the processor.

those who bought the 4S did so to 1. have the latest technology 2. were at the end of they contract 3. needed Siri/better camera.

my take on the entire situation, was Apple tried for those extra three months to push out the iPhone 5. 4S was their backup. There is no reason to delay the 4S by 3 months just to upgrade the processor and camera.

look at Siri. Its beta...the 4S killer app...in BETA. Had the 5 come out, we still would not have Siri. Without Siri, the 4S has not marketable characteristics.

again that is my take, and so, do not be surprised when an iPhone 5 with redesign is released in June.

Apple doesn't dick anybody over, it is thou who has dicked all over thyself

;)

I would not be pissed; I'd be elated

I could sell my 4S for several hundred bucks and buy the iPhone 5 for about $600 unsubsidized for a net cost of $100-300 (rough estimate). Sounds good to me!

Not really. iPhone 5 comes out your 4s drops in price by around $200-300.
