11 months from now: "Anybody else really pissed that the iPhone 5 hasn't come out yet?"

Seriously though, there will always be the iPhone 5S/6. The 4S is an excellent phone and worth the money for those of us upgrading from a 3GS.

Not per my contact in Austin, TX at Apple. They said NORMAL CYCLE, which is June timeframe.

I can assure you that your "contact" knows nothing about any timeframe. And, the normal cycle is now in October.

:apple:

Will the release of the iPhone 5 somehow slow down your iPhone 4S?

At least you arent on Android, there's new a one out every week... Every time I turn on my TV there's one of their annoying uniform commercials for a different phone. Droid Does

iPhone 6

Anyone else considered the logic that the next iPhone should be the iPhone 6?
iPhone 1 was first. Second came the iPhone 3G (2), third came the iPhone 3GS (3), Fourth came the iPhone 4 (4) and last month came the iPhone 4S(5). Whatever its called, it should be sweet!

Wrong, this person developed the phones chips and knows when it comes out. I know him as a personal friend. So I believe what he says over someone like you that has no info at all and just assuming it will be October.

Let's put it this way. MacBook air is already getting another refresh. That is 2 since the model came out in less than 2 years. Apple doesn't keep on a timeline anymore and I can promise you they won't wait till October.

Anyone else here gonna be *really* pissed if Apple releases a new phone within 8 months of the 4S release? With already all the stir up of an iPhone 5 and its inclusion in a .plist file recently I'm actually hoping it doesn't get released. Don't dick me over, Apple.

Apple is way beyond the point of honestly caring about their customers. They've got hard data proving that Apple & it's cult like worshipers will rave about any new product.

They'll buy it at any time, if early they'll buy it, if late they will wait. All the while singing the praises of Apple and it's minions.

Apple has the worlds best spin machine.

I wonder if the new iPhone will be released on it's previous schedule, June 2012. Because I always believed the reason they pushed the release of the iPhone 4S and the reason it was the 4S was because Verizon just released their iPhone 4 CDMA version in Feb 2011

Don't you need at least to have two come out in October before we call it the "normal" cycle?

Right now we have a history of June with one in October. Not saying one way or another what is going to happen....cause I don't know.....but to say October is the new norm is a bit presumptuous.

If your friend really works for Apple then he should know not to run his mouth. MacBook Air has nothing to do with the iPhone refresh cycle:rolleyes:
edit: doubtful that any low level developer would know anything about release dates.

Good point. It is just my opinion that the cycle will be October now. It make perfect sense with iPads and laptops in the spring, iMacs in summer and all ios products in the fall. Time will tell, but I bet I am correct.

Right it is your opinion so stop stating it as fact. Again you vs someone who works at Apple. Sorry Apple wins.

And the MBA is an example to a cycle never being the same anymore. But they still release an update on the original cycle of their products.

And for the record, no one will believe you after you said you met Steve Jobs and discussed with him at an ipad event. Sure you did as anyone will know he doesn't have the time to sit down and talk to anyone at these events other than his own workers. Stop spewing your bs and lies.

That thread was about what carrier Steve Jobs uses. There were plenty of sarcastic posts in that thread, and mine was too

C'mon can't you do better that that?

It's not me vs. someone who works at Apple. It is my opinion that the next iPhone will come out in October. Once Again, your "friend at Apple" has no inside knowledge of when the next iPhone will be released.

Actually yes he does. He can't give me details, reason why he said it the way he did. Again you have no clue what you are talking about and this is more proof.

Yes I expect my mobile phone to be the best on the market for 2 years.

Just kidding.

Obviously Apple is developing its future products, and that is a process that will never stop. That was not my point. My point isn't that they shouldn't be making one, but it is borderline deceitful to sell an iPhone 4S for the price that it is while releasing a much more significant upgrade half a year after the release (all rumors, of course. This is macrumors, right? :p). To me, its a matter of consumer relations.

I upgraded from a Blackberry 9630 so the upgrade to a 4S was significant. If I had an iPhone 4 I wouldn't have upgraded.

You would prefer a stagnant company that holds back product enhancements rather than one that releases a device when its ready?

I have (and love) a 4S. But if the next gen is better then I'd like the OPTION of upgrading to it if I wanted to based on my timeline rather than some marketing execs idea of when a finished product is most strategically going to draw the biggest crowds.

they took too long from iphone 4 to 4s, now they'll cut their reg. time in half :D. So 6 months from 4s release sounds good to me. I'll upgrade in any case.

News Flash...........
Apple working on updated product for release next year! Darn....

I will wait to buy until they are not going to have any new products to come out the next year.. :)

wrong, iPhone5 will be released in October 2012.

:apple:
The fifth generation iPhone, this "iPhone 5", has already been released. It's called the iPhone 4S.

Don't believe me?

Apple iPhone (also known as iPhone 2G) = first generation
iPhone 3G = 2nd generation
iPhone 3GS = 3rd generation
iPhone 4 = 4th generatoin
iPhone 4S = 5th generation
"iPhone 6"/"iPhone 5"/"iPhone 4G"/"iPhone LTE" = 6th generation

I think the only real problem here is that the phone is subsidized. Plain and simple.
Frankly if an iPod Touch @ 32GB is 299.99, then the addition of the Cell radio shouldnt jump the cost to $599.

If an iPhone was treated like any other apple product then we would all welcome a newer version within 8 months, but due to the "contract" style of the Cellular business model, we are trapped without spending $600+ to get a new device.

Think of it in terms of the iPad. 16GB is $499 wifi only. If i want 3G also, its an additional $129. So for $629 I have an iPad with 3G and it isnt subsidized. So why can't an iPod Touch 32GB be $299 and an iPhone 32GB for $429 non-subsidized. Remove the providers altogether like they did with the iPad. Just buy it and add it to your account. I still have a 2 Year Contract with my provider and they can still charge me an ETF if i cancel before hand, just like DirecTV or Centurylink does without blaming it on the cost of the equipment, because i dont get to keep my Satellite receiver or Cable Modem, they still need to be returned.

Apple has the right idea with the 4S having one sku operate on any available supported provider. Now they just need to break away from Provider pricing and sell the phone as they do any iPod or iPad.

Clearly the $599 sticker price is mearly an inflated scare tactic to get people to sign contracts. It has nothing to do with any reasonable percentage based markup over cost. Its even far beyond the "Apple Tax".

When the first iPhone came out. I paid $599 for mine but it was unsubsidized. Then when they started selling Refurbs they were offering them for $199-$399 unsubsidized. A Perfect Price point if you ask me.

People balk at the idea of spending $300+ for an phone because all you see is $.99 and free offers for crap phones. But if you are willing to spend $199 or more on an iPod, why would you flip out about paying that for a phone that has the same features as the ipod? After all, isnt that essentially the business model of the iPad with the 3G only adding $129 to the cost of the device.

I just dont see why it has come to be that a Cell phone is this extremely special device that needs to cost half a grand.

It's how the industry prices its phones. Other phone makers do the exact same thing and I'm sure there is more to it than just cellular chip. iPad & touch are derivatives of the iPhone and wouldn't be possible without iPhone's R&D. iPhone always leads ahead of those other 2 devices, who get iPhone's features "passed along".

LOL at some of you who think October is Apple's new release schedule.

iPhone 5 will be released in June/July 2012. No questions asked. And no, it will not be called iPhone 6, silly.

6th generation iPhone indeed, but it will be called iPhone 5. And yes, you'll see "iPhone 5" imprinted on the box.
