So true. I'm ready. Sell the old model and buy the new. Every six months would be even better.

wrong, iPhone5 will be released in October 2012.

Not per my contact in Austin, TX at Apple. They said NORMAL CYCLE, which is June timeframe.
I wasn't dumb. & stuck with my ip4, cause the 4s is a terrible upgrade so I won't be crying like all the 4s owners later![]()
Won't be mad at all , if you can't pay don't play !!
I can assure you that your "contact" knows nothing about any timeframe. And, the normal cycle is now in October.

Anyone else here gonna be *really* pissed if Apple releases a new phone within 8 months of the 4S release? With already all the stir up of an iPhone 5 and its inclusion in a .plist file recently I'm actually hoping it doesn't get released. Don't dick me over, Apple.

Wrong, this person developed the phones chips and knows when it comes out. I know him as a personal friend. So I believe what he says over someone like you that has no info at all and just assuming it will be October.
Let's put it this way. MacBook air is already getting another refresh. That is 2 since the model came out in less than 2 years. Apple doesn't keep on a timeline anymore and I can promise you they won't wait till October.
Don't you need at least to have two come out in October before we call it the "normal" cycle?
Right now we have a history of June with one in October. Not saying one way or another what is going to happen....cause I don't know.....but to say October is the new norm is a bit presumptuous.
If your friend really works for Apple then he should know not to run his mouth. MacBook Air has nothing to do with the iPhone refresh cycle
edit: doubtful that any low level developer would know anything about release dates.

Good point. It is just my opinion that the cycle will be October now. It make perfect sense with iPads and laptops in the spring, iMacs in summer and all ios products in the fall. Time will tell, but I bet I am correct.

Right it is your opinion so stop stating it as fact. Again you vs someone who works at Apple. Sorry Apple wins.
And the MBA is an example to a cycle never being the same anymore. But they still release an update on the original cycle of their products.
And for the record, no one will believe you after you said you met Steve Jobs and discussed with him at an ipad event. Sure you did as anyone will know he doesn't have the time to sit down and talk to anyone at these events other than his own workers. Stop spewing your bs and lies.

That thread was about what carrier Steve Jobs uses. There were plenty of sarcastic posts in that thread, and mine was too
C'mon can't you do better that that?
It's not me vs. someone who works at Apple. It is my opinion that the next iPhone will come out in October. Once Again, your "friend at Apple" has no inside knowledge of when the next iPhone will be released.
...They've [bold added] got hard data proving that Apple & it's cult like worshipers will rave about any new product...
You would prefer a stagnant company that holds back product enhancements rather than one that releases a device when its ready?Anyone else here gonna be *really* pissed if Apple releases a new phone within 8 months of the 4S release? With already all the stir up of an iPhone 5 and its inclusion in a .plist file recently I'm actually hoping it doesn't get released. Don't dick me over, Apple.
The fifth generation iPhone, this "iPhone 5", has already been released. It's called the iPhone 4S.wrong, iPhone5 will be released in October 2012.

I think the only real problem here is that the phone is subsidized. Plain and simple.
Frankly if an iPod Touch @ 32GB is 299.99, then the addition of the Cell radio shouldnt jump the cost to $599.
If an iPhone was treated like any other apple product then we would all welcome a newer version within 8 months, but due to the "contract" style of the Cellular business model, we are trapped without spending $600+ to get a new device.
Think of it in terms of the iPad. 16GB is $499 wifi only. If i want 3G also, its an additional $129. So for $629 I have an iPad with 3G and it isnt subsidized. So why can't an iPod Touch 32GB be $299 and an iPhone 32GB for $429 non-subsidized. Remove the providers altogether like they did with the iPad. Just buy it and add it to your account. I still have a 2 Year Contract with my provider and they can still charge me an ETF if i cancel before hand, just like DirecTV or Centurylink does without blaming it on the cost of the equipment, because i dont get to keep my Satellite receiver or Cable Modem, they still need to be returned.
Apple has the right idea with the 4S having one sku operate on any available supported provider. Now they just need to break away from Provider pricing and sell the phone as they do any iPod or iPad.
Clearly the $599 sticker price is mearly an inflated scare tactic to get people to sign contracts. It has nothing to do with any reasonable percentage based markup over cost. Its even far beyond the "Apple Tax".
When the first iPhone came out. I paid $599 for mine but it was unsubsidized. Then when they started selling Refurbs they were offering them for $199-$399 unsubsidized. A Perfect Price point if you ask me.
People balk at the idea of spending $300+ for an phone because all you see is $.99 and free offers for crap phones. But if you are willing to spend $199 or more on an iPod, why would you flip out about paying that for a phone that has the same features as the ipod? After all, isnt that essentially the business model of the iPad with the 3G only adding $129 to the cost of the device.
I just dont see why it has come to be that a Cell phone is this extremely special device that needs to cost half a grand.
