If you delete your Cox email account and then add back don't you lose all your emails? Did you migrate them to another folder?
all of the emails were there when the account was added. maybe because it's IMAP and the emails hadn't been deleted prior to the crash and they were downloaded again?

update: Mail has been behaving today until I click on an email in the Trash, then it suddenly quits but I can open it again and it's fine until I go to something in the trash. What's going on?

Happening to me too. I deleted and re-added the Cox account but it still crashes if I scroll too far down. Before deleting the account, I noticed that some messages in my Mail inbox were not showing in the inbox on Cox's server (using webmail). When scrolling over those, it would crash immediately. Now, those more recent mismatched messages are gone, but when I scroll further down there must be more.

I think there is some sort of mismatch between what is showing on Cox's servers and what Mail is receiving. When trying to load the message (even by scrolling), it will cause Mail to crash. It repeatedly happens at the same scrolling point, even if I scroll fast or slow.

If they are still showing on webmail for you then they should re-download to Mail when you add the account back in. If they are not on webmail, you might want to make a backup first just to be safe.

Mail has been a nightmare for me since 13.2. Message activity just hangs, I have lost mail messages that get hang on send, the outbox does not appear, so when I force quit, I lose my messges. I have removed all the accounts deleted my mail data and rebuilt over the weekend and after two days went back to the same problem. I have moved mailboxes to Yahoo mail, Gmail and Outlook on iPad because I just can't work. I have been in touch with Apple support and they have not been able to help me at all. Just basic suggestions that led me nowhere. I am furious

My Cox ISP and Apple Mail no longer function. I deleted my Cox account from Mail and re-added. After many messages downloaded Mail crashed. It won't reopen now. I even got Outlook crashes when I set up my Cox account there. I don't know if is a Cox or Apple Mail issue.

I don't know if this answers your question but Mail works fine on my desktop running Monterey and my iPhone running 16. it also worked fine on my M1 MBA with 13.1

When I get the 'report' dialog box after Mail crashes I've been sending the report to Apple but the dialog box doesn't show every time.

This happened to me too. I had to disable the account in "Internet Accounts" to even get Mail to open. I then clicked on a different mailbox so it was selected before adding the account back, because of whatever offending email(s) were causing it to instantly crash. I <think> I was able to narrow it down to a few emails causing the crash and went into webmail to delete them before adding the account back in. I can now use Mail again, but if I scroll too far down in the list of messages, it will stumble on another message that causes it to crash immediately. As such, I'm just being careful for now and hoping the powers that be fix this soon.

I can say that Cox has been an unequivocal mess for many years. I should probably just switch to a different client.

Is this happening with anyone's Gmail account, or is Cox the only client exhibiting this behavior? I use Cox as an internet provider, but don't use their email client. I'm still sitting on the sidelines running 13.1.

Hi, how do you identify the offending emails? I have the same issue - scrolling through old Cox emails causes an instant crash. It is unusual that if I load the Cox emails in Outlook the same Mail crash occurs. I am just following my mail now in Cox Webmail but I hope this issue is fixed.

II assume many thousands of folks use: Cox ISP, Apple Mail client, and have Ventura 13.2 loaded. But is seems very few folks have problems - maybe other software (e.g. Parallels, etc.) we have loaded on our Mac's is conflicting.

perhaps this is good news .... despite giving mail a workout I haven't had a crash in over 24 hours although I have no clue why it seems to be working. the issue does seem to involve Cox and several of us are from Arizona.

Upgraded to OS 13.2. Same problem. It's Cox. Turned off the Internet Accounts - Cox Account "Mail" button and Mail fires up (but, of course that account isn't accessible). Until Cox or Apple figures this out I configured my Cox account to forward emails to a gmail account.

In Mail, I just scrolled really slowly and it would always crash when I got to a certain (Spam) email. When I looked on webmail, that message didn't exist so there was some sort of mismatch. If you select a recent email, hold control, and quickly scroll down lower, you can select multiple emails at once without giving Mail enough time to show the offender on the screen and crash. This will allow you to delete the range of emails. Unfortunately, you'll likely lose more messages than you want though.

I ended up deleting all recent emails and then re-adding the mailbox so it would sync up again with Cox via IMAP. Now it still crashes, but only if I scroll to some emails from more than a week ago. Of course, if a new, rogue email comes in to my inbox again then it will likely just repeat this nightmare.

Thank. I spoke again to Cox today and they said they are aware of the Apple Mail issue and are working on a fix. I am not very optimistic.

any idea is Apple knows about it? I've forwarded a couple of crash reports to Apple but most of the time it just crashes and I don't get a 'report' dialog box popping up.

Cox mail works fine on my iMac running 12.6.3 and my iPhone with 16.3

sounds like this is a problem with the Ventura update.

I just tried Apple Mail with a Macbook running 13.1 and all is fine. I can scroll back quickly with no errors. You are correct - 13.2 and Cox have some conflict.

I share each of your frustrations with Ventura 13.2 | Mail!

My Silicon Mac Mini was updated to Ventura 13.2. As of Saturday, my Mail has been crashing left and right. I've gone down various resolution approaches without much to show. I removed the Cox account with the same results as each of you. I did two Ventura re-installs and countless restarts and shutdowns. I deleted all Internet Accounts and just loaded iCloud - Mail crashed.

Apple Tech Support: I spent countless hours on Saturday and yesterday with Tier 2 Apple Support. Yes, they are aware of the problem (they acknowledged it), but they have no solutions or workarounds. They escalated to Apple Engineers.
COX Tech Support: Today, I spoke to Cox Tech and relayed my issue, questions, and research. Only the field engineers working the servers can address any server problems, Tech has no visibility to server logs. Tech would not forward the case. 🫤

Apple or Cox or both have a severe problem. Based on Mail behavior, the probability is very high this is a Ventura 13.2 problem. In the meantime, I work in a hobbled state until a permanent fix is found and released.

Temporary Solution: I keep using the Shift key to reopen | open Mail and continue working. Nor do touch the Trash folder to avoid Mail crash.

Since i update in general in that trash Ventura my system is a joke. Recycle bin needs to empty 2 times, external HDD ejects without reason, bluetooth keyboard fails to stay in connection with Macbook. I never haven't those problems in Monterey.

Unfortunately, opening with the Shift key won't help if the offending email is showing on the list of messages on your screen when opening. It'll still immediately crash.

Thanks for posting this update. I am happy you have contacted Apple and Cox (I have also). I am hoping 13.3 will fix the issue.

Different issue for me, I'm getting ever more messages that claim 'This message has no content'. Never happened before 13, really bad in 13.2 These are accounts I've have for decades...

Seems most prevalent on messages that start with an image rather than text but that's not always the case.

UPDATE: I'm continuing pressure-testing Mail!
  1. Yesterday, I went through all my Smart Folders, and several crashed Mail. With Mail back up, I went and deleted the identified Smart folders that would crash Mail and rebuilt them. Mail has been running for 23.5 hours without crashing.
  2. This morning Mail would not email my iCloud emails. I checked Mail>Settings>Accounts>Server Settings>Outgoing Mail Account for the iCloud account, and it was set to None. 😵‍💫 Yesterday, it was set to iCloud, and I could send iCloud Mail.
  3. Am I convinced Mail is stable? Not by a long shot. On top of Mail issues, I've noted monitor issues and some Messages chat icons removed. Apple needs to roll out the fixes sooner in Ventura 13.2.1 or 13.3.

UPDATE: Mail for me has been stable for around 48 hours. Nothing changed in the setup from my end so I have no idea why it is behaving normally now. I hope it continues to work.

I'm having the same issue. I found this issue is being caused by a single email or two. If I log into webmail or delete the email from my phone, then Mail work but once some odd mail comes in again Mail will crash again. I've redone th emal account along with reloading the machine from scratch and still have the same issue with Mail crashing.
