My 2 day good luck streak ended tonight. I deleted and added back the suspect account and Mail wouldn't stay open despite doing this several times. I looked at Mail on my desktop (Monterey) and found a new spam email in that account, deleted it and then Mail on my MBA opened and is working as expected.

this does seem to support that certain emails cause the problem and that the crash will occur just having them in the inbox even without attempting to open them.

Correct... you don't even have to open them. If their headers are showing, that's enough to crash the app.

and it turns out I don't even need to delete the email account ... deleting the email on another machine will allow Mail to open. UGH. but the problem is only on my laptop running 13.2.

I had the same problems with my Cox account too. After several hours of trying a bunch of things, including Apple support, I did an export of all the data I wanted to keep and installed Thunderbird for an email client. It's working fine.

Also happening to me with my cox account. I deleted and added yesterday and worked fine for about 24 hours--now crashing again. I don't know if this is a cox or apple problem. I hope it's apple, because Cox won't do a thing about it I fear. I'm getting off Cox for good--it's not worth the trouble.

Forgot to mention, for me this is a Mac Silicon problem only. It's happening on my Mac Studio, but not on my other Intel Macs in the house.

Hi Steve,

I just looked into the ticket we submitted yesterday. Engineering told me to tell you that they are investigating this issue. It looks like a lot of customers are having the same issue but they have not found a resolution yet. They said they will let me know when theres a fix for this issue. Theres no telling how long this will take. But will be checking in on your case periodically. If you have any questions please let me know.

Thank you,
Sam

Thanks for that information Steve. Good to know that Apple is aware and investigating. Hopefully they'll get it figured out and will keep you posted. I actually had Mail crash and then let it sit overnight and was able to open it back up without having to delete or toggle off my Cox account. I had a good stretch of usability after that but Mail finally did crash again and I had to completely delete the account instead of just toggling off. What's interesting is that I've had a number of instances where I've tried logging into Cox Webmail and it will not let me log in and says there was an "internal error." Issues all around. At least my iPhone and iPad have had no issues.

Luckily I have an older Mac running Ventura 13.1 and with that Mac I have zero problems with my Cox mail using Apple Mail. With my 2 other Macs using 13.2 I have constant Apple mail crashes.

Apple also confirmed to me they are aware of the problem and I am hoping the next Ventura release resolves the problem.

After a few bad days the problem for me seems to have resolved itself.

Anyone else see an improvement?

since updating to 13.2, Mail quits within seconds of opening the app. every time ... it won't stay open.
anyone else experiencing this?
For me it was with 13.1 witch quits Mail within few seconds every time and won't stay open. With 13.2 Mail stay open but take too much time for this job and take too many process power !

Yes, thanks to Steve for the info. I've been messing with this issue for a couple of weeks. If I delete both email accounts (Roadrunner and Exchange) and reload after a shutdown pause (to let my Mac think about its sins!!), Mail will run for maybe two days, then crash. I've also opened Outlook as my backup app, but it's now crashing! Of course, I can still get my email on webmail. I now have a Monterey installer stick, but haven't yet gotten the courage to install it.

Looks like 13.2.1 just came out. I wonder if this bug was addressed.
Hmm. Just installed the update and tapped galore everything that used to cause a crash--junk and deleted folders, in particular. Even Outlook survived my tapping. Let's hold our breath!

All issues with my Spectrum account seem resolved. Mail definitely more responsive for me on Spectrum anyway.

No placebo either. Ran the know issues I have every day. All resolved.

Mail seems to be working for me also after the update but the problem was intermittent and I'm hopeful it won't bug out again in a few days.
